Produce123 Posted September 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Is the chocolate buffet a thing of the past? I have been on two 7 day cruises on the Vista already and have not seen it or perhaps I missed it. Doing a Journey Cruise soon on the Breeze and I hope to see it. Thanks. Purvis1231 Posted September 3, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Every cruise I have sailed had it but to be honest it looks better than it taste. Try tea time for the best treats.

Lee Cruiser Posted September 3, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Yes, it has been on all the cruises we have been on. But in all honesty, it hasn't been that good lately. I love chocolate, but haven't been impressed by the taste.

DramaQueen22 Posted September 3, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 3, 2018 It was served during lunch on the final sea day of our last cruise. Maybe you were looking for it at midnight?
sanmarcosman Posted September 3, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Yes, such as it is. I agree with the previous poster that the sweets served at afternoon teas on sea days are superior.
funinthesun1964 Posted September 3, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 3, 2018 There is a chocolate fountain and some chocolate cakes, etc. This is just going from a distant memory since I have not gone in several cruises. I don't have much of a taste for chocolate anymore.

sammee Posted September 4, 2018 #11 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Chocolate buffet looks good but tastes pretty awful. Much better desserts are put out at tea time I was always afraid to say this, but it's so true. I'm so impressed until I take that first bite. Wonder if they were made at Old Country Buffet. txmom11 Posted September 4, 2018 #12 Share Posted September 4, 2018 They have a midnight buffet on the Journey's cruises and I usually end up missing the chocolate extravaganza since it's during the day.
Produce123 Posted September 4, 2018 Author #13 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Thanks everyone! I will look for it at lunch time and not expect the greatest quality either. Lol.
watermelonqueen99 Posted September 4, 2018 #14 Share Posted September 4, 2018 I wish they would do away with it. The display is beautiful, but none of it has any flavor. Walk through when it's going on, and you will see piles and piles of uneaten food, because it looked good but tasted terrible. Such a huge waste. sammee Posted September 4, 2018 #17 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Why insult old country buffet? HaHa, we don't even have any by where I live nowadays. I vaguely recall their brownies tasting pretty good.
Rare BlerkOne Posted September 4, 2018 #18 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Should be on every ship, every cruise. Certainly better than the pillow mints.
PhillyFan33579 Posted September 4, 2018 #19 Share Posted September 4, 2018 They have had it on every cruise I can recall, although I never go to it. Yesterday on Victory it was held in the Lido area from 12 PM - 2:30 PM.
devinc Posted September 4, 2018 #20 Share Posted September 4, 2018 It was on Valor on Sunday (last sea day) although not super extensive. I had a sample of 2-3 things and thought they were pretty good.

Micahs Grandad Posted September 4, 2018 #22 Share Posted September 4, 2018 HaHa, we don't even have any by where I live nowadays. I vaguely recall their brownies tasting pretty good. I always thought their pies were very good, used to go regularly but after a few times we kind of bot bored and stopped going. Guess when we stopped lots of others did too and now no more old country buffet.
salty dingo Posted September 4, 2018 #23 Share Posted September 4, 2018 There was a chocolate fountain on the lido of Fascination recently. They had various skewers of fruit to dip in the chocolate. No strawberries, but there was pineapple. Helpful tip: get some soft serve ice cream in a bowl before you go to the fountain. Then, lay the chocolate-covered fruit on top of the ice cream and it will cool faster.

Badfinger Posted September 4, 2018 #25 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Is the chocolate buffet a thing of the past? I have been on two 7 day cruises on the Vista already and have not seen it or perhaps I missed it. Doing a Journey Cruise soon on the Breeze and I hope to see it. Thanks. It was on the Breeze last month. Last sea day in the lido. Started at 12:00. To me, the total number of offerings was less than in the past. I spotted two cakes that looked really good, so I got one piece of each. Turned out that even though they had different names, there were the exact same cake (maybe the chef mixed them up?). They were good...but two pieces was too much for me, so I wasted half (expected to eat half of each piece). Anyone who saw my plate might think I did not like it No, it was fine, just too much. They also have these orange candy pieces dipped in dark chocolate that are pretty good. And based upon my past experiences, some of it is really bad...waxy and no cocoa flavor at all. The fountain is awful. I am not defending the un-defendable in the overall quality of the chocolate as to me it rates one notch below a Hershey Bar and I think Hershey Bars are below average, but IMO you see so many plates laying around full of chocolate because people will eat a meal at the lido or a couple Guys Burgers or the BBQ, then load up a plate full of chocolate..only to find their eyes are bigger than their stomach. Kids are probably the biggest offenders. Plus at that point in the cruise, many are just tired of eating.
