Cons of getting on the Sun (Sat Sept 16-23)

As of this past Sunday, September 9th, The Sun is doing 7 day Cuba cruises (Sunday-Sunday) out of Miami. Know sure exactly what time She sails but it will either be 4 P.M. or 5 P.M.

I do not see anything weather wise that would create a problem minus maybe some rough seas going out of Miami Sunday afternoon.

Your biggest problem might be your flight(s) getting to Miami. Impossible to know at this point how many flights will be either delayed or canceled along the East Coast because of Hurricane Florence.

Other than getting there from Philly I see no reason, at this time to worry about the storm. The only concern will be getting that visa. Otherwise everything should be fine and she is a great smaller ship. It sounds so funny to say "smaller" as there was a time when she was among the largest ships sailing. Good luck and if you can work it out, enjoy your cruise.

Well we didn't make it. As mentioned about, visa could be an issue. After talking with NCL, I got a no, maybe and not sure, you could check when you board. From what I read you can't board without a visa and why would you want to go to Cuba and stay on board.

The Sun is a small ship...some people may view that as a con. I was on her back in June for a 3 nighter and the size was fine for me...but I don't know if I would feel differently if I was on her for a week. That said, I have nothing bad to say about the Sun...loved every minute.

I have been on the Sun for 30 days and wouldn’t change a day of it.

We probably have been on her about that many days as well and like you, we love the ship. I just am always surprised when I hear people talk about "she is too small" I think the mega ships are too large . It is simply a matter of opinion and maybe some what how many years one has been cruising. There was a time when the Sun was not considered a small ship

Can you please tell me who the casino host is on the Sun? Do you happen to know any of the officers names? Going for my first time in a couple of weeks!

Brian Walters is still the Hotel Director. He's the best in the fleet. The CD a few weeks ago was a rookie named Jamie (that's not how she spells it). We did not particularly care for her, nor the Asst. CD, who did most of the PA announcements and was difficult to understand. The Captain was one of those who is never seen or heard.

When we booked our cruise 9/23, we paid for our visa thru NCL and were told we could get them when we got to the terminal. I don’t know how long I it takes, but I would call and see if it is still possible to get it thru the cruise line.

Sun Captain: Teo Grbic from Croatia Been with Norwegian for years. He has been Captain on The Dawn and The Sun. He was Staff Captain on The Spirit and was Staff Captain on The Sun when he was promoted to Captain. Captain Teo is a very large gentleman--- 6' 6'' think NFL Linebacker. He always walking through the ship. If there is still a night where the Officers led a Sing Along (they are on the double staircase in the lobby), he is there.

Cruise Director (until late October): David Klooster from Australia

I would have to believe that, if they're still selling cabins, you can get a visa through them. Call and ask before booking, get the contact information of anyone who says "no problem" and you're good.

I had to fill out an Affadvavit (online) at least 30 days before the cruise and I think they use that to prepare a Visa for Cuba that I get once I board the Sun in October.

I would definitely verify that info before trying to book the cruise.
