Can the soda package mug be filled at any bar?

I am reading ship reviews of Serenade of the Seas which I am on in 93 days and I came across this.

"The soft drink package was a joke. They provided a mug that you had to go to a bar to fill. The problem is that the pool bars close early and all of the inside bars did no “fountain drinks.” Had to go either to the disco above the top floor or the Casino to get “the mug” filled."

I have been able to get a coke at any bar on my previous cruises. Has anyone else had this experience?

Thanks, it sounded far fetched. I know that on my previous cruises with other lines, any bar could sell you a coke.

Some say that when they approach a crowded bar, they hide the special cup, because they think the bartenders tend to put the fountain soda refill requests at the lowest priority.

Some is my middle name. A couple of weeks ago on Echantment, no problem, but on busy times at the pool, I subscribe to that theory.

I have experienced something similar on Carnival ships. When my daughter in her lower teens would try to get a coke with her bottomless bubbles package she would often be ignored for long periods of time. I had to speak to a bartender about it once after she had sat there for ten minutes and he apologized saying he did not see her.

Right or wrong, I started giving her ten bucks in ones and telling her to pick a bar she likes early in the week and tip a couple times a day. That worked.

You don't actually need to use the souvenir cup do you? I thought you could just order a soda and hand them your seapass and it would receipt as $0.00.

Correct, you do not need to use the special cup when ordering at a restaurant or bar. However your choices will be limited to about 6 flavors.

I have a collection of mugs, still wrapped in plastic. We never carry a mug around the ship. Go to any bar, and get a soda. The mug is only for the freestyle machines, because it has a chip in it, and only at those machines, can you get a bigger variety of soda. Since I only drink Coke, and don't want cherry coke, with a dash of orange in it, I have no use for the cup. The bartender will not know what you want, until you ask. So you will be served as quickly as anyone else.

True, but its rare in my experience to get a can/cold can, they usually give you an 8 ounce glass wtih 4oz of ice. At least with the souvenir cup, you get closer to 16 oz of liquid.

Just off my B2B Freedom cruise and I could get the fountain soda or my preferred can, glass of ice and a straw at any bar onboard....I mainly used the WJ bar nightly to have a coke with my WJ dinner.

Our experience has been that the only required soda cup is for the freestyle machines. Our seapass cards were always marked to show that we had the soda package (coke symbol) and we could get a soda anywhere by showing the card.

I often ask for no ice when I get a soda at the bar.

I ask for a Coke Zero and they usually bring me a can. (I sometimes ask for Pepsi Zero due to my strong preference for Pepsi products, but to no avail:*

I am with you. We have NEVER used the mugs. They never leave the place where they are set down in the cabin upon entering. Even in the Windjammer, I just show my seapass and ask one of the servers for a coke.

You will find "no" Pepsi products on RCI/Celebrity ships they have a "contract" with Coca Cola.

If you want Pepsi (or any other soft drink) you can now bring the allowed amount of cans in your carry on.
