OBC Withdrawal - Casino

Has anyone recently had any luck trying to withdraw OBC with a cash account at the Casino without incurring 5% hit?

Was a hit/miss in the past, not sure what's happen recently. I was thinking of buying some OBC and withdrawing it as cash at the casino (or hoping to cash out end of cruise)

There is no 5% fee if you are ranked Prime or above in the casino.

did you try this recently? it's been a hit and miss in the past, wanted to gauge what the results are recently.

Why would you go to guest services to add cash to your account only to take it back out at the casino?  Just use the cash for the casino or are you trying to cash out your OBC at the cashier in the casino.  If that's the case you will be charged the 5%.  If the OBC is refundable you can go to guest services as ask for the money at the end of the cruise.

Because my primary currency isnt USD. There's a small margin to be gained via CC cashback (as well convince) to withdraw USD on board. In the past this was more lucurative (canadians could acquire USD for 20% discount this way) but now a days, its more of a convenience thing (as well the OBC currency conversion is fixed 1.3 CAD to 1 USD) which isnt the case in the market. So if there is no 5% hit, this is potentially a better way to acquire USD.

Great points.  Thanks for explaining, as I also was wondering the same things “gaylemh” asked.

I also understand that you can Cash out some of your non-refundable OBC (subject to a 5% service charge) at the casino if you use the cash at the gaming tables.  Has anyone recently been denied this?

Yes you can cash out your OBC for the 5% fee.  The amount you take out on your seapass at the casino is just added to your total charges and OBC is deducted from your total.

Will guest services let you withdraw cash if you have non-refundable OBC?

No, only for refundable, and I think you have to wait until towards the end of the cruise.  Use your non-refundable to pay for the service charge.

Can you put extra tips to specific people on your account at GS?  We have prepaid tips and an OBC from booking.

Last cruise we bought stuff in the shops just to use some of it up.

i would prefer to leave it as an additional tip for room steward than let it disappear.

Thanks

You can add tips at guest services.  Why don't you call and get the prepaid tips taken off and get a refund on your CC? Use your OBC once you get on the ship for the tips.

I was on the Allure two weeks ago with a cash account.  I  withdrew refundable OBC in the casino and was charged 5%.  I went to GS in the middle of the cruise to withdraw the remaining refundable OBC and was informed because I had a cash account that I could not withdraw the remaining OBC until the last day of the cruise.  I asked if I had a cc on file would I be able to withdraw the OBC prior to the last day?  Unfortunately, the response wasn't very clear .

Just sailed on the Explorer in September.  We always set up a cash account and have never had difficulty on any ship withdrawing non-refundable OBC. Just be sure to let the cashier know your account is cash and confirm that you will not be charged the 5%.  We have never been charged. Some ships give us cash and others give us a voucher for the slots. I learned on cruisecritic to put the voucher in the machine, press the cash out button and return to the teller for the cash. Works every time.

Alternately have gone to GS on the last day and received any leftover OBC.  No 5% fee charged.

I think you pretty much have to wait until the last day to get your refundable OBC from GS whether you have a cash account or a cc on file

That procedure is not a available anymore on some ships and will be banned fleetwide soon! :classic_angry:

Better yet, if you want to thank a specific individual (s) simply get WOW envelopes from GS and hand them out.
