Rare uktog Posted November 8, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2018 (edited) We boarded Pursuit on Tuesday having read on these boards that people were worried that Pursuit wasn’t hitting the standards of Journey and Quest. Our experience so so far is this couldn’t be further from the truth. Yes there are new staff, some need a little time to check things sometimes but there is absolutely nothing to worry about if you are coming to Pursuit. Food is great, bar service is good and all is VERY well. Not much has had been written to date about Captain Toledo. Our experience includes him having to completely change our itinerary due to wave systems. He’s a great communicator he held a Q and A immediately and explained it all so well. His Captains Welcome was warm and witty and his focus is on “we the team” which we very much like. Our initial impressions are here is another great hire by Azamara. Amanda as cruise director is also everywhere and really working hard. So for those worried that it’s not Russ or Tony or Eric, forget your worries. All the music is great and the only slight challenge is the Den is so popular you might have to hunt for a seat (but you will find them!). Theres lots of of new things to do during the day as well as the old favourites- they’ve even set up a little 4 hole mini golf circuit in front of the band in the living room with pesky foam hazards. It doesn’t disturb the readers as they sit in front of the band stage. Happy to to answer questions but life is good on Pursuit Edited November 8, 2018 by uktog Spelling
excitedofharpenden Posted November 8, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2018 That's great to hearAnn. Thank you for the feedback. I know your opinions are always balanced ones so that is a good read. Keep enjoying Pursuit as it heads to Tenerife. Phil
150edmiston Posted November 8, 2018 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2018 Thanks for the update uktog. Good to hear that the crew are as motivated and engaged as those on Journey and Quest. David
audobon_tx Posted November 8, 2018 #4 Share Posted November 8, 2018 (edited) We've been aboard Pursuit since September 29, through good weather and bad, changed itineraries and ports, and can testify that this has been an outstanding voyage throughout. All the officers are visible, personable, and excellent at their jobs. The way they handled extreme weather and its effects on the schedules was to a standard that their competitors should strive to emulate. The crew has delivered the best service of any of our Azamara experiences. The food has been great. We absolutely agree with uktog that Captain Antonio Toledo is an outstanding hire (he was even with Renaissance when the ship was commissioned and knows it from the keel up). HD Ryzard and FB Elisabeth have been customer focused to the max and are loved by the crew. CD Amanda and assistant Lee are happy, charming, and a great team. We even booked four more cruises (to go with 6 booked previously) with Gian, the dynamo sales and LCV manager. And again, the service from the happy and personable crew has been top notch. Well done Azamara. Edited November 8, 2018 by flyingshoes 1
Belfastman Posted November 8, 2018 #5 Share Posted November 8, 2018 We were on Pursuit for 17 days from Athens to Barcelona and agree with the comments made by uktog. Unfortunately Amanda was ill for a large proportion of the Rome to Barcelona leg but that didn't diminish the experience. I think that the lack of a bar on the sunset veranda and the introduction of the Den are great improvements - although through the second 8 days of our voyage the sunset veranda was closed for about 5 days due to weather. Crew (including the new ones) were very good and lived up to the Azamara expectations.
cpgrneyes Posted November 8, 2018 #6 Share Posted November 8, 2018 I agree that the Pursuit is a lovely ship and Captain Toledo is a marvelous addition. As Belfastman indicated, Amanda was ill for much of our trip so she was not as ever-present as Russ. We found Elisabeth, the F&B Director, very friendly and professional, and Rysard as amazing as ever. One thing I did miss is that not once did we hear “Welcome Home” from the security team, and I did make that comment on the post-cruise survey. Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted November 9, 2018 #8 Share Posted November 9, 2018 Since I never used the casino and found it pretty much in the way, the change to the Den sounds especially wonderful to me. Also glad that the new stripes are living up to the unique Azamara culture! And they have FeverTree! The news just keeps getting better and better.

Whistlerski Posted November 9, 2018 #10 Share Posted November 9, 2018 Wow this is so great to hear! Our first Azamara cruise is coming up soon ( December 1 - Lima to Buenos Aires) and I must admit I was concerned with the initial ship reviews. Time to start focusing on excursion planning and packing!,

Now looking forwards to our TA on Pursuit next year more than ever. Considering the new crew and changes in the ship the cultural assimilation in such a short time since the maiden voyage is a credit to the leadership. The Azamara culture was in full bloom when we boarded in September and has continued uninterrupted since. Also, things just keep improving. Example, when we boarded on September 29 there was no waffle station, no dry cereal dispensers, no gelato chiller/case in Windows. All are now in place and operational. Lounger cushions are now in place outdoors as is the pool bar furniture. Interactive TV is not but it is coming soon we were told and it will be better than currently on sisters. The Den is now the heart of the ship and the casino is not missed by this traveler. Looking forward to similar change on the sisters. Rare uktog Posted November 9, 2018 Author #15 Share Posted November 9, 2018 Funny the young security girl recognising us at embarkation said welcome home so I think it’s an isolated glitch only. Whats impressing us is we’ve found some great waitstaff all first or second contracts which is excellent to see. The return of the singers has made a huge difference as the support of the daytime activities is back to as it was.

This is one of the areas that is left to the ship to arrange.

ellbon Posted November 12, 2018 #24 Share Posted November 12, 2018 I was on regent and they dropped you at a mall near the ocean. It was not near the part of the city that has churches etc but a hotel and mall. I hope AZ picks a better place.
Rare oddjob16 Posted November 14, 2018 #25 Share Posted November 14, 2018 Great to hear, Ann. It is quite an achievement to transfer the soul of Azamara to a completely new ship. Kudos to captain Carl and his team for getting it right.
