I not sure you should accept marital or budgeting advice from this forum (unless you want to share a lot more personal info😳).  We scored a great deal on a CP balcony on our next cruise, but as hubby really loves suites and we can afford it, we submitted bids on some nice suites.  I wouldn’t do it if I thought spouse would kill me!

I would!

What’s the minimum bid?

$250. Actually quite reasonable price. Feel like Adventure's RS isn't quite as nice as some of her sister ships.

We can afford it, DW just likes to save money wherever she can.

We have two cabins on this cruise, but neither can really serve as a home base for everything (I booked solo in a 5D aft balcony solo under the double points promo to get to Diamond, she is booked with DS in an ultraspacious OV). DS is too young for the pullman and the 5D doesn't have a pull-out sofa, so plan is the aft balcony for daytime use, ultraspacious OV for sleeping. Chances of a RU win are slim, but would be nice to have a single cabin that could be our spot.

(Will add, wasn't seeking advice so much as starting up a convo on how many people may have similar situations -- one spouse is pro-RU, the other isn't.)

That seems like a reasonable minimum bid.  Have you actually asked her?  Fearing for your life seems a bit extreme over that amount😉.

I’m generally more frugal than my hubby.    Part of the reason we can afford to splurge is that we have lived below our means rather than too frequently splurging or wasting $ throughout our lives.  That said, I believe spending money on experiences contributes to happiness and that some RoyalUp bids a chance at a lower cost route to experiences I probably would not purchase at full price.  He usually leaves the RoyalUp bidding to me; just as well as I know more about the suites and perks.  I usually ask his opinion.  When our bids were limited to two meta-levels, we did not necessarily bid.  Now that we can bid on suites from more starting points, we are likely to bid each time.

Just got our ROYAL UP acceptance email for the 5/1 Oasis OTS!!!!  OVB to JS for minimum bid.  We had a JS on the Odyssey and got spoiled by the extra closet space and Lavazza espresso.  This one only has one bathroom, tho.

Does anyone know - if I put in a new bid for a category up, is that bid on top of what I've already paid for the first one or does the first get credited and the new one debited?

Thanks to all, in advance!

Recent reporting seems to suggest you are very unlikely going to get another chance to bid. Your first win should render all other bids expired and you will likely not get a chance to bid again.

Congratulations on the winning bid.

I agree with Biker that you are not apt to get another chance to bid, especially since you leave pretty soon.  If perchance they give you another opportunity to bid, come back and let us know.  Have a wonderful cruise.

Adventure OTS from Promenade to Spacious OV balcony. My initial booking for Promenade was was$901.XX. I saw that spacious ov balcony are $2K. I also saw in a FB pg for the same sailing that someone won on $300/pp for just Ocean View balcony. So I figure I'll put in $350, but I'm sailing solo, so $700. So I'm saving around $300~ in the end.

Sounds good.  I think that’s a 9 night cruise, so lots of time to enjoy the upgrade.  Have a great cruise.

We just won a RoyalUp for the next Oasis sailing 5/1 from NJ on sunday. We booked pretty much last minute only on last Monday. I used a casino free cruise certificate for a balcony. During booking I asked how much the fee for an upgrade to a JS is. -> 3,000 USD, so no thanks! So we booked on OV balvony on deck 8 and only paid around 300 USD for taxes. Luckily only yesterday I was able to put in RoyalUp bids. The min. were pretty high I think. 300 pp for JS, 500 pp for GS, 800 pp for OS, 2,000 pp for CL… So we bid on JS, GS and OS, all around 20% above minimum bid. Luckily the JS came through. So in the end we paid 750,- USD total for the upgrade instead of 3.000! Yay!!! Also got a good location for the JS assigned, with a deep balcony! 🥳

Congrats!,

Maybe you got ours! Our RoyalUp for the 5/1 Oasis was accepted today from a JS to a GS. Bid a little above min but still considered “weak” by their scale.

Now can get into CK and SL.

Here is a new scenario at least for me with Royal Up.

Sailing is 5/27/22 Radiance of the Sea.  Cabin is a GTY balcony.  Placed bids back in March/April on Scenic Spacious Balcony, Sunset Spacious Balcony.  (that was name of category...have no idea other than they are some type of spacious).  Today I am 30 days out and my balcony GTY changes to an actual balcony room this am, (a fact I knew as I did the bar code trick).  About an hour ago I received the following email from Royalcaribbean.com with the subject matter stating "changes to your Royal Up request".  I thought wow, my bid was accepted?  I open the email and got this message "This email is to let you know that we’ve cancelled your requested RoyalUp upgrade due to a change in your reservation."  There was an "You now have the option to bid on more staterooms. To submit new bids, click here." So I just rebid with the same rooms as before.  Very odd.  I have a nice room now.  I would like one with a bigger balcony which is why I did these bids.  I wondered if anyone has seen this and if they were successful.  Of course I know its a crap shoot.
