Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #126 Share Posted February 7, 2019 Ok, for some reason it's adding this entire post all over again and won't let me move forward until I post it... Sorry for the reruns. Couple more.
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #127 Share Posted February 7, 2019 Moving on... I walked over to Mr Ed's oyster bar, supposedly a New Orleans institution... I ordered a Patron silver margarita, and the bartender gave me a funny look... Anyhoo, it's pretty strong, I watched him make it. 2
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #128 Share Posted February 7, 2019 (edited) I think it's mandatory to have some grilled oysters in New Orleans, so when in Rome... I ordered a half dozen charbroiled oysters, and the guy brought out a whole dozen... Said he would only charge me for 6... Bonus!... Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #129 Share Posted February 7, 2019 On a wait to even get to the bar at Irene's... Also supposed to be a New Orleans standard. Looks a bit fancy for me and my t-shirt and jeans...
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #130 Share Posted February 7, 2019 Nice bar... I ordered another margarita since it looks like that's the direction I'm headed.
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #131 Share Posted February 7, 2019 Crab meat gratin... So hot it's literally bubbling on the plate. 2
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #132 Share Posted February 7, 2019 As usual, I dove in too early and burnt the s#!+ out of the roof of my mouth... I'll never learn...
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #133 Share Posted February 7, 2019 For some reason, the carousel bar at the hotel Monteleone is something everyone has to do here... I was in and out in less than a minutes...
purpleally Posted February 7, 2019 #134 Share Posted February 7, 2019 The margarita and oysters from Mr Ed’s. Wow! Looks sooooo good!
Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #135 Share Posted February 7, 2019 I guess that you could say I've come "full circle"... I'm back at Maypop where it all started earlier today for another crimson cooler... Also, there was a bone marrow dish that is only served at dinner, so I'm having that as well...
Rare debenson0723 Posted February 7, 2019 #136 Share Posted February 7, 2019 There are no street signs. Look down at the sidewalk on the corners...the street names are imbedded in the concrete. Was just there 2 weeks ago during the playoffs...thanks for the photos as I am missing it big time!

Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #139 Share Posted February 7, 2019 Now, I've walked at least 15 miles today, and my feet are feeling every step of it... I'll be doing good just to make it back to the hotel. After Irene's, I walked up and down Bourbon Street for a while. The sights and smells are indescribable. I could try, but I wouldn't do it justice. And, remember this was at around 7-7:30 in the evening. I can only imagine what it's like in prime time. A bit of a crazy scene indeed. 1

Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #141 Share Posted February 7, 2019 I have blisters inside my mouth from the crab gratin. Blisters on my feet from all the walking, and the vacation is just now getting under way... Good times...

I would say it is a mix of sweat, puke, pee, and alcohol. That pretty much describes it! 😂 wait until a couple of weeks from now for Mardi Gras. Then the smells get even better! Hope you having a good time! I’m sure you have walked quite a bit. But I hope you have enjoyed the sights along the way.

Rare sid_9169 Posted February 7, 2019 Author #144 Share Posted February 7, 2019 (edited) Wow, I really do feel like an old fart... It's 9:15, I'm back at the hotel with my feet up, and pretty much about to get ready for bed... I've had a long day today, with a LOT of walking. I calculated my food and beverage costs today, and I'm close to $200... The worst thing is that I'm not even drunk... Full, yes. Drunk, no... I have another big day tomorrow, embarking on my first cruise of more than 8 days... First time cruising out of New Orleans on the mighty Mississippi River... Thanks to all of you who have followed along and commented. Thanks to the "lurkers" too... We're all going to have a blast together these next ten days... Well, it'll mostly be me having a blast, but you'll all be along for the ride vicariously... Rare Von & John Posted February 7, 2019 #147 Share Posted February 7, 2019 Enjoy the start in the Mississippi - one of the main reasons we're interested in a cruise from NOLA! I group up on the Mississippi up North... Spent much of my first 21 years on the river 🙂
