Hi -

This is what we are thinking....

Wed - cruise ends in Genoa, spend 1 night

Thu - train to Pisa 2 nights

Fri - train to Florence for day trip returning to Pisa

sat - flight home departs at 10am from Pisa

this seemed like the most efficient... but open to advice.

thanks!

flying home to where ?  We took the train to Milan as we found more flights there.

But if you MUST fly from Pisa, I'd flip your itinerary so that you end up there instead of backtracking.

And unless you have specific plans in Genoa i'd skip it.

WED  Disembark. Train to Florence

THU  Florence

FRI     sighteeing in the morning, noon-ish train to Pisa (1 to 2 hrs).  Check into hotel then sightsee for a couple of hrs around Pisa.

SAT   10am flight

Would certainly agree with the other comments that Pisa is hardly worthy of a full day or even a single night.  When we are spending land time in the region we see Pisa as a city to avoid.  The only time we stop in Pisa is if we have others who want to see the Tower...and then we try to make it a very short (less then an hour) stop.

Thanks that is the advice I needed!  I will look into Florence for a couple of nights, Pisa for a night prior to flight.

Wed Florence

Thu Florence

Fri leave in the afternoon for Pisa

Sat catch an early flight from Pisa, Milan departures I will look into as well

Many thanks!

If your cruise ends in Genoa, it makes more sense to visit Pisa afterwards for a night before heading to Florence for the remainder of your trip. There will be many more flight options from Florence than Pisa. If you fly out of Milan, you will be backtracking and wasting time. If you want to fly out of Milan, do it after visiting Florence and not Pisa.

l would do:

wed Pisa (maybe just see the tower & catch a late train to Florence)

thu Florence

fri Florence

sat fly out of Florence

Flights to/from Milan tend to be cheaper. I also recommend the Hotel Villa Malpensa for the night before; it's near the airport, and they have a shuttle that will pick you up (even if you arrive by train) and deliver you back for your flight the next day. It's an old villa (much renovated, with a wonderful restaurant) with a largely-abandoned village nearby; there are also several new hotels right at the airport.
