Renting a golf cart in Bonaire

This came from Debbie at Bonaire cruisers when I emailed her.  This is what we are planning.

 

Thank you for your interest in renting a Golfcart.

 

Please read the whole email it will save you a lot of questions.

 

2 person golf cart USD95

Deposit is USD100

Price is inclusive gasoline, insurance, taxes and an island map. 

Rental time is till your Ship leaves or till max 5 pm. For ships coming in at noon till 6pm

Don't forget to bring your drivers license. Drivers must be 23 years old!!!

 

On cruise ship days we are open at 7am! 

Some ships leave around 2 pm you can do both loops in about 5 hours. 

 

If you download the app maps.me you can download Bonaire  map and you have a great gps which works without internet.

Explore bonaire in a golf cart is the best way to see all the highlights 

Bonaire has to offer on your own pace. Don't forget to bring your snorkel gear.

Also an amazing experience for people with mobility problems or wheelchair users.

You can strap your wheel chair on the golf cart. 

 

 

You can stop wherever you want for beachtime, lunch or whatever. 

Just park the cart take the key out and go on again later. 

You can drive around the whole island only not into the national park Washington slagbaai. 

The south loop takes about 1 h1/2 

North about 2 hours non stop. 

 

If you want to make a reservation. Just confirm via this email.

 

If there are 2 cruise ships in harbour. You find us at the south pier on the street in a row of tents in front of the ship we are always in the last tent.  If there is 1 ship in harbour you find us in front of that ship. On the street at north or south pier. In the last tent where all the vendors selling their tours. It's a 5 min walk between north & south pier. Some ships dock south some north. 

 

We accept credit cards or cash. Only not American Express. 

You pay deposit and rental fee at the rental day.

 

We don't have any cancellation policy.

We reserve the cart(s) till 2 hours after your ship docked.

Some ships arrive in the afternoon then we keep them for 1 hour reserved!!! 

If you don't show up we rent them out. 

If you decide that you don’t want to go even on the rental day. Please be so kind and let me know. So I can make somebody else happy. Without holding the carts for two hours for no reason. We appreciate if you cancel in advance.

We also started another great excursion a guided off-road tour like nobody else does on on the island. The off road guided tour takes about 6 hours.

 

The guide drives on a Yamaha grizzly in front and max 3 Yamaha Vikings 6 persons each. Will be driven by one of you. 

At least 4 persons in a Viking. Family or friends together. No strangers in the same vehicle because you drive them your self. 

Driver must be 23 years!! 

 

First we go south and see all the highlights from the south. 

Salt mountains, pink salt bassins, slave huts, lighthouse, flamingos and a stop at Sorobon Beach.

 

Then we go off-road and explore the rough side from the island.

And also visit one of the many caves.

 

And go snorkeling at one of the best snorkel places on the island. This is also a great place for some beach time for the ones who don’t want to go snorkeling.

We provide a mask and snorkel.

 

After snorkeling we go the north 1000 steps, goto lake, Rincon and  more.

 

 

If there is time left before your ship leaves we can drop you off at coco beach for some beach time and even a great snorkelplace  and pick you up also.

 

Tour includes drinks, snacks, and a lunch price per person is $125

We did this and were very pleased. Golf carts are in great condition and the staff is very pleasant and eager to help you with any questions or concerns you may have. 

They have a kiosk right outside the port entrance where they check off your name and direct you to the office(short walk on even surfaces), where you get the cart. 

We watched a video on you tube before we went which gives a good visual of the trip around the island. Be sure to take a couple bottles of water along. We also took pool towels for the seat of the cart as it can get quite warm. We did both south and north routes and had time to see shops and set-ups around the port area too.

Can u take the carts to great beaches or are they too far away??  Sorobon beach....Loc Bay....too far by golf cart ??

HI,

Yes there are beaches both south and north.  Just remember to take the key out of the cart when you park it.  Loc Bay is at the southern end.  Don't miss the 1,000 Steps - beautiful area and the water such an amazing color.  Included a link here for you of a map showing paved roads and beaches around the island.  Hope that helps.  We didn't do any swimming the day we were there as we wanted to see as much of the island as possible, but we stopped from time to time to walk to water's edge.

Another option you might consider is to take a Twizy tour.  If you aren't familiar, Twizy's are small narrow electric vehicles where the driver is in front and the passenger sits behind.  One thing we really enjoyed was that the tour was guided - while each couple drives their own Twizy, you all follow a lead Twizy driven by your guide.  You will pull over at numerous places where your guide will explain the local sights and history.  We really enjoyed it.  If you're interested, here's the link to the company we used

Another vote for the golf cart rental. We had a great day in our cart. The Island is small enough you can see the whole thing in one day, or do part of the island and stop often to snorkel swim etc. One thing that really surprised me was how courteous the local drivers are to the golf carts. Also if you are an animal lover do not miss the Donkey Preserve.

Another satisfied golf cart renter here.

We brought a little cooler filled with bottles of water.

Be sure to pack sunscreen.

We stopped and swam at the 1,000 steps, very refreshing.

Enjoyed the flamingos as well.

If you are not diving or snorkeling in Bonaire, the golf carts are a must do.

We pre booked and had a really good day and I know one couple managed to get a cart because of a “no show” but be very careful if you stop to look at anything on your journey and leave the golf cart, make sure you take your valuables with you. There were some people who just stopped for a minute and when they went back to the cart, everything had been taken. We did see them on the road a bit later and it looked as though they found a bag which had been thrown into the bushes, but I don’t know if they found everything . 

 

A good, fun, way to see the island and it’s amazing how tolerant the other road users are to the golf carts, but just be mindful. It’s very easy to think it’s the beautiful Caribbean and all is good in the world. There are some people out there who are chancers.

I second this!  We had such a great time and saw so much of the island.  We still talk about this excursion.

For anyone doing the golf cart.  Do not miss a trip through the donkey sanctuary.  SO much fun!!! One donkey will block your path while the others come right up to you to see if you have carrots.  We were advised not to buy the carrots from the people who run the sanctuary and we were glad we heeded their advice.  Hard to believe but that 15 minutes in the sanctuary was one of the highlights of our trip.

We've always had such a great time in Bonaire ... even booked an inexpensive tour through the cruiseline called Best of Bonaire.  I can honestly say, it was money well spent.  We got a great overview of the island.  The golf cart sounded like a blast but if they are still all sold out, maybe check out one of the organized tours of the island.  The one from the ship was just a little over $50 pp but our roll call had another one that covered the same sites included for $40 pp.  The reason we didn't go on that one, though (in an overabundance of caution on my part) was that our next stop was Key West and that tour wasn't to get back into port until 30 minutes before our departure.  They all made it back but I don't like to cut it that close.  I might have chanced it if our next port was Curacao or Aruba ... just not all the way back to Key West if we missed the boat.  

Anyway, hopefully you can still get one of the carts but if not, it really is hard to have a bad time in Bonaire.
