naxer Posted March 10, 2019 #26 Share Posted March 10, 2019 I just approach it as background noise of a cruise and tune it out since I generally don't do any of the things they're advertising. If it's not in the FunTimes, I'll never know about it. This goes the same for the ream of advertising copy in the stateroom every night--straight to the waste basket (and recycling, I hope).
Nic6318 Posted March 10, 2019 #27 Share Posted March 10, 2019 hi Carnival doesn't pipe these announcements into the cabin. Imagine my surprise when I found out that at least one cruise line found it was necessary to allow the captain's daily morning message to be broadcast into the cabin. I wasn't impressed. This system is for important information.
Aplmac Posted March 10, 2019 #28 Share Posted March 10, 2019 A lot depends on the tone and timbre of the announcer's voice. They would be well advised to turn down the Highs, and up the Low's and don't speak so directly into the microphone but I suspect many of these announcements are made via the guy picking up a telephone, flicking a switch to 'Ship PA All Over' and doing his thing. Female announcers with warm voices could improve things immensely....

Seems Carnival does not think their passengers can read Fun Times! I was going to say something but I'm critical enough of carnival. 1

RWolver672 Posted March 11, 2019 #31 Share Posted March 11, 2019 The one thing that I have always noticed about the announcements is that if you are say on the Lido deck when they make the announcement, all of your fellow passengers keep right on talking and you can't make out half of what the CD is saying. After twelve cruises, I've learned to not even try to listed to them anymore.

indygirl76 Posted March 11, 2019 #33 Share Posted March 11, 2019 John gives the "drives onboard revenue" rationale a lot. It's not that I think he's lying, per se, but it's super weird to me. I can't really see being the person who cares to buy the "gold by the inch" stuff, and not noting the time of the "super sale" via the Fun Times. [Major airquotes on all of that.]
