Rare twangster Posted April 13, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2019 Have experienced the same time announcement in Bayonne. Think they are just setting expectations so people don't pester them asking over and over "what time will the ship board?". Truth is terminal contractors don't know when it will board. When the call comes in on their radio, that is when they know boarding will commence.

Same experience, but I swear that the PA hadn't even stopped crackling from the "11:30" announcement when they started boarding around 10:45. Rare tennislvr8 Posted April 13, 2019 Author #9 Share Posted April 13, 2019 Just finished muster.... It was in 270, the million.dollar technogy wasn't working. No video, but it was playing in the room when we got there. We had a crew member read what to do and two others demonstrared how to do life vests. I once arrived "late" in Maryland for the Grandeur. Not late as in "omg, the gates are closing", but later than usual. (There were four - count 'em, four - serious accidents on I-95!) Maybe 2? The terminal was practically haunted. 😄
Rare tennislvr8 Posted April 14, 2019 Author #12 Share Posted April 14, 2019 Attended the cruise critic event this am. Here are the highlights. Dennis is going on vacation may 4 and when he returns he will be the cruise director on Symphony. Mitch someone or another will leave the Oasis to become the CD on anthem. Oasis was gong to dry dock for millions dollars worth of upgrades. Specifically the smoke tacks will be redone to go up and down.... So it can fit under the Verrazano bridge. Royal is coming out with 10 new ships all bigger than the anthem. We also had an alpha at about 9am that made us turn around and go back to Bayonne. No update on person other than they are in the hospital. It will cause us to get to Bermuda a few hours late.
Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted April 14, 2019 #13 Share Posted April 14, 2019 Recently off the Anthem. At the Captain question/answer event Dennis mentioned that he has been with the Company 29 years. I thought for sure he would be retiring soon ;-).
Rare tennislvr8 Posted April 14, 2019 Author #14 Share Posted April 14, 2019 Dennis also said he's on cruise.criric and sees all the posts.. He said he's fine with any and everything that's posted but he asks that if there is an issue to let someone on the ship know so they can fix it.

maria1122 Posted April 14, 2019 #17 Share Posted April 14, 2019 I have been reading about Mitch. Everyone really seems to like him. Has a great sense of humor, did really well with the quest, love and marriage etc. Dennis has been really great on the Anthem and will be missed. sellwingri Posted April 15, 2019 #18 Share Posted April 15, 2019 I’m not sailing on Anthem until November but hopefully Mitch will still be onboard. I’ve sailed with him before and he was great. A great Cruise Director can really add to my enjoyment.

He may be an OK Cd, but from our experience with him, as a person he is just awful and abuses his authority. We did what he asked, we let "someone" on the ship know.
Allura_317 Posted April 15, 2019 #20 Share Posted April 15, 2019 I had the same experience on Harmony last summer. Got on ship at 10:35ish, but they said embarkation would begin at 11:30.
alisatj Posted April 16, 2019 #21 Share Posted April 16, 2019 How was the traffic getting to the port? I've watched youtube videos that show 1+ hour waits to get to the luggage drop off point.

What time were you planning on arriving?

Mitch returns September 7 until January 5, 2020. Is the break incorrect, or is that fill in person unknown? Just curious. Thanks!

There are plenty of people in vests directing traffic and moving people along. You should be fine.
