Glory Disappointment

One thing I can definitely say from experience is to allow as much time as you can in New Orleans. We went early and stayed for 4 days, and barely scratched the surface. One of the most fascinating places i've ever been to.

Just off the Glory, and it was wonderful! I should have never let someone's negative review discourage me. Had many delicious meals off the buffet, hot and varied. The chocolate bar was great. Never seemed crowded even in the casino at night. The comedy was great, cruise director charming. If you are planning on a Glory cruise, I am jealous! Have a great time-it really is all about your attitude. I was even entertained by my neighbors, a couple of old (my age probably) biddies on one side complaining about EVERYTHING, and a 30 something couple on the other side having loud sex on their balcony.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. We were on the Glory last year and had a great time. Nothing like what some have said here.

 

So did the older couple complain about the loud balcony relations? LOL "Hello, Guest Services. I think there's an injured pelican on the neighbor's balcony. It's screaming something terrible."

I know that I’m excited! I also have a cruise booked on the Magic, a ship my daughter just got off on Sunday. She called me to tell me to change my plans because the buffet lines were too long and there was no pool in Serenity. 😳

No, I am not changing my plans, because I know better. I’ve read far more great reviews on the ship than negative, and a cruise is what you make it. I’ve sailed the Breeze on March 2, the sister ship to the Magic, and am aware of the large crowds of people and lines at the buffet. I am fine with that. If I feel a line is too long to wait in, I will just eat somewhere else. So, I am just ignoring negative comments about any ship. I’m sure the Glory will be glorious, as will the Magic. Any day at sea is better than any day not. 😎🛳🏖🌴

I am flying in three days early, because I believe just a day or two prior to cruise just will not be enough. We certainly have the time (we are retired), just wish we had the money to stay longer than three days! We have a month long vacation starting the end of March. It will be our 50th Anniversary and we are taking our time, driving to Florida, rented a cottage in Florida, then boarding the Magic on April 5 for a B2B cruise. Then taking our time, exploring along the way, back home to Buffalo. Hopefully it will be Spring weather when we return! 😎🛳🌴🏖

I am just off Glory (since yesterday)

This was my 31st cruise and this is what I thought.  Yeah the ship has seen better days, me too.

Old but clean.  Employees would do anything for you.

Only problem we had was.................TOILET would not flush.............

I just read several reviews of the Glory here on CC, and let me just say that the conclusion I came to about the negative reviews were either from people that did not do their research ahead to know exactly the size and age of the ship, and some from people that sounded down right “entitled”. I’ve known people like that, who are totally unhappy with everything, always complaining about their restaurant dinner and sending it back, always thinking they aren’t waited on enough, etc, etc. so, I am going on my Glory cruise in February knowing full well that it is older and smaller than my most recent ships sailed, it may not have all the amenities we have had on other ships, but also knowing that we will have a perfectly wonderful time, sailing with our family, and seeing the excitement of our grandchildren on their very first cruise. I know they won’t be complaining about the quality of the buffet food, or that something looks a bit worn. Or that some waiter didn’t move fast enough for them, or anticipate their every need and wish. This is where I put in an eye roll for all the nonsense I read. 🙄

I am not "entitled", and I travel at least two to three times per year.  I have written both positive and negative reviews here and on tripadvisor.  I hope that you and your family have an enjoyable cruise, and are able to be OK with the buffet food and extremely crowded main pool/kids pool area.  If bashing negative reviews makes you feel better, so be it.....

We are booked on the Magic next February and the Glory this September.  We've sailed the Magic previously and she is a great ship!  We did like the Breeze a little better, but that was mostly due to CD.  Dr. E on the Magic drove us nuts (I realize we are in the minority).  He was friendly and out and about, but his "Good morning" song and many announcements were hard to tune out.  He is no longer on the Magic, so we are really looking forward to sailing on her again.

We sailed on the Sunshine when everyone was hating on her, and she is one of our favorite ships.  Like you, we go with an open mind and flexible plans.

I was actually referring to the reviews I read on the review section of CC, not yours. Read a couple of them, and you will understand what I meant. Not your review at all. And I believe in keeping an open mind because everyone’s experience is different and subjective. What makes one person miserable, may not bother the next person at all. From what I’ve read about nearly every Carnival ship is that the buffet has long lines, and we experienced that as well on the Breeze and just avoided it. It was an experience that we never had with RCCL or NCL buffets. And the amount and variety of food on NCL makes them win hands down. But, like I said, we found other food venues to eat at on Carnival. As much as we sing the praises about Carnival, I really feel they need to redesign how they set their buffets up. On RCCL and NCL there is no line. You just pop over to whatever station you want. You may need to wait while one other person was helping himself to a food you wanted, but no lines. 

So, please do not take offense. I was not referring to you. Read over some of those negative reviews in the review section, and you will see what I was talking about.

This happened to us on the Vista .... they had it fixed almost immediately.  🙂

 

We also had rough seas for a couple of days .. and the cabins got pretty creaky.

I think they must still put the Platinum tags in the cabins.  On my last cruise, I went down to a lower deck to get some luggage tags and arrived early.  The tags did not start with number 1.

We sailed on the Glory in January and loved it!  My daughter and I will be sailing her again in January 2020 out of NO and we can't wait!  The Circle C was great with my daughter.

Just got back from a 4-day cruise out of New Orleans on the Carnival Glory.  I went on the Carnival Liberty two years ago and loved it, but was really disappointed in the Glory.  I cruise about once per year, and go to AI's about once per year also.  The Glory buffet was the worst of any of the cruises or the AI's that I have been to.  Food options were not appealing AT ALL.    There was no wok station.  The lines were always LONG.  Chocolate buffet was limited to an ice cream bar and about 6 topping options during lunch one day.  BBQ place only open during lunch.  Stale bread.  Limited salad bar.  Limited kids food options. What happened to the buffet?!?  The pool area was the most crowded that I have ever experienced.  The Glory took away about 1/3 of the pool deck/seating for the slides and kids water park (not in the back of the ships like some other ships).  We had panoramic ocean view and a grand panoramic ocean view next to each other, and there was such banging, creaking and vibrating all night that we had a hard time sleeping.  I am familiar with extra "rocking" when the seas are rough, but never had the LOUD banging noise coming from the ceiling.  It was always not cool enough in my room or many of the common areas.  I went to pick up my luggage tags on the last evening and was told that I had to carry off my bags as they only handed out luggage tabs until 5:30 PM (new one for me out all of my cruises-I have always had luggage tags left in my room or I could pick them up from guest services any time before the bags go out).  Staff were nice but seemed tired and overwhelmed.   Debarkation was a nightmare.  We were on the "carry-your-own-luggage-off express" group, and did not get off the ship until 9:45 AM.  May have been something going on with customs, bur no explanation from the staff.  Although we enjoyed the entertainment, Alchemy bar and Dr. Seuss brunch, nobody in my party is sailing with Carnival again.

We have sailed on the Glory twice--May 2018 and a 12 day Journeys cruise in February. Neither cruise did we experience anything like you described. I am sorry your expectations weren't met.

If you want a pool in the Serenity area, you are limited to Sunshine and Spirit class ships 

 

I firmly believe most people cruise to have fun, but there is a small minority that cruise so they can complain about it. With all the information available online and the countless videos available on sites like YouTube, there is no reason anyone should be surprised by the majority of what they see and experience on a ship.

 

I don’t mean to pick on your daughter, but for example, it isn’t a big secret that Magic doesn’t have a pool in Serenity and the buffet area is set up with everything accessible in one area instead of several smaller stations other ships have that usually result in much shorter lines. She should have known this well before the cruise and at least in my opinion, shouldn’t have booked the cruise until she learned more about the ship.

Exactly what I told her! I research my ships thoroughly, so I know what they have, or don’t have. I did tell her that I was NOT changing my plans, and that I am very aware of the buffet long lines. We just adjust our times eating there or eat elsewhere. It certainly doesn't make me want to change my plans. And I told her that her experience with having a pool on Serenity was limited to just that ship (I wasn’t aware that the Spirit had one) I am a firm believer that ANY cruise is what you make it. When some people jack up their expectations, they run the risk of being disappointed. I’m totally confident that my Glory, and Magic, cruises will be just fine, and looking forward to them both.

We have a Glory cruise for our 25th Wedding Anniversary in late July. We love the Dream and hope to love the Glory also. I have heard that the Muster Drills are all outside, I am hoping that is not true. We were on the Triumph a few years ago and I thought I was going to need meds to get through being on the deck with people to close for comfort. It is the only bad part of the cruise,well other than it ending. 

Oh, did you happen to see where the sushi is sold?

Unfortunately the safety briefing is outside on all Conquest class ships, including Glory.

Oh, Lordy. That will be a problem for me. Last time I had an outside muster I nearly fainted. Not a good way to start a cruise! Lol! I haven’t had an outside muster since 2014!

My wife has the same issue with the muster drill. Simply go to guest services after you board and explain to them and they will have you sit in a comfy lounge area close to the life boats for the muster drill.
