Stay away from the casino, its a shotty operation.  Machine broke in middle of $10 hand (yes, very small amount) and every player had a single card (including dealer).  The floor manager turned down the dealer's suggestion to cut the hand and forced cards through the machine MANUALLY (to all players objections), then the dealer got blackjack (go figure).  Talked to Alex who was in charge of the entire casino at the time and he blew me off suggesting I would have no problem with the scenario if the dealer got anything less than blackjack.  Customer service desk assured me that I would receive a call from his superior to schedule a meeting the next day on ship - that call never happened.  At that point, I walked away from my TEN DOLLARS knowing I would never be donating anymore of my money to their sham of a casino operation.  Learn from my ignorance.

While that is an odd decision, normally a malfunction is a misdeal, it is still no reason to quit gambling.  Remember quitters never win.

Casinos on cruise ships are basically the Wild West since they don't have a gaming commission to regulate them.  I've seen some crazy stuff happen, especially at the craps table.

I think you mean SHODDY.  In what you describe, every player got the EXACT card they would have gotten anyway.  Nothing at all changed.

Any casino (on land or at sea) has a process to follow. Not a dealer's or player's bright ideas. It is good that pit boss took control.

Actually a shotty is a type of pipe for smoking weed.  Also a nickname for a shotgun or buck shot.

So the cards were already shuffled and every player got their 1st card.  Rather than the machine spitting out the 2nd card for each player, the turned a dial and manually gave the card to each player.  Everyone got the exact same cards they would have gotten had the machine not broken.  The dealer caught black jack.  Same black jack he would have caught if the machine dealt the cards or the manually dealt them.  Yet there is some giant conspiracy here?  All to get your $10?

Really reaching here Mr Mike.  I constantly down played the amount the hand was worth, objecting on principle alone and thankful not to be playing a bigger hand.  I never accused anyone of cheating/conspiracy, just improperly handled at every level of management.  

 

I thought I'd share with others that have never gambled with Norwegian Cruise line.  Not surprised by the amount of posters with too much time (cruise birds etc), but I am alarmed by the amount of trolls that are trying to assure me no eyebrows should be raised.

The first words of your post are: Stay away from the Casino, Shotty operation.  Why?  Because they manually dealt 1 hand, in the exact same regard that it would have been dealt if the machine didn't break?  And a pit boss and manager told you sorry, no misdeal? Therefore, the entire casino is shotty and we should all stay away?  

 

Yes, in some casinos, this would be considered a misdeal.  In others...they would deal out the hand and then fix the machine.  Nothing shotty, shoddy, or shady went down.  The dealer got black jack.  It happens.  It would have happened regardless if the machine broke or not.  You lost.  No need to take it to management, pit boss, supervisor, or post here on CC "warning" everyone to stay away from the casino.  You lost a hand at blackjack.  It happens.

After reading some of the replies (thanks!), I'm realizing that if anyone on that ship would have told me they have a process and it is being followed, I wouldn't be here posting now.  I'm new to the gambling arena and would not have been so confident I was "wronged" if the shark watching behind me hadn't chuckled so hard at the table/pit's incompetence.

 

When seeking explanation from the floor manager, he never once spoke to their process, instead assuring me that I wouldn't have a problem if the dealer got less than blackjack even though I never accused them of cards being dealt out of order.  (similar to posters here who aren't getting paid... it's just human, I get it)

 

My post was about more than the $10 I threw to the wind,  it was all the terrible customer service and false promises made to me afterward.  Some of you are way to excited I didn't have a good experience on your favorite cruise line.

well I agree that this was terrible.  I'm not new to gambling, so I can tell you that nowhere that I've ever gambled would this not be a mis-deal.  I don't even know how you can guarantee that the cards came out the same as they would have without the malfunction because you don't know if the flywheel (spinner that holds the cards) was the malfunction.  It could have skipped a position or two.  Point is, that should have been declared a dead hand no matter how much money was involved

Something for nothing is the entire concept.  Why are people surprised that the casinos are set up to rip them off?  Some games the only way to win is to not play them.  Unfortunately this is news to some.

The entire concept is to rip people off without them realizing they were ripped off.  Two ways to accomplish this: provide a 'thrill' along the way or maintain a facade of fairness (while everyone is simultaneously aware that the house always wins). 

 

Please try again, but know this thread isn't about whether or not gambling is a good idea - it more about how gambling on NCL is NOT a good idea, even if you're used to gambling as an OK idea.
