The Zuiderdam will dry dock in early December.  Does anyone know what is planned?  We will be on the first cruise after the dry dock.  Just wondering what to expect.

Should be standard dry-dock maintenance only

As the drydock window is very short (December 1-9) I would anticipate it's for required underwater Marine maintenance and inspections.  Any minor cosmetic work done to the interior will just be a side benefit of the downtime.  Mostly deep cleaning, repair/replacement of heavily worn carpet & fabrics, etc.  No major structural or design changes are anticipated.

Previously, I thought there was mention of adding a Dutch Cafe as well. One can only hope.

Time will tell, but they would have to gut something else out first in order to get one (and I'm a huuuuge Grand Dutch Cafe fan)

It would be fairly easy to repurpose the Pinnacle Bar on the Vista and Signature class vessels and turn them into the Grand Dutch Cafe. I think it would be a better use of the space and generate far more revenue.

New furnishings and removal of the dance floor in the Ocean bar would be consistent with work done on other ships and reasonable given the length of the drydock.

I'd also like to see them remove the abandoned bar on deck 1 and the atrium staircase like they did on Westerdam, but that may be too much structural work for a 7 day drydock.

Hopefully they will find time to repair the deck 5 button on the left panel of the near forward starboard elevator so it will actually stop at deck 5. Reports of it not working were only met with odd looks.

The addition of Tamarind would be nice.  Does not sound like there's enough time for that during a short dry dock, though.  We really missed that on the longer Zuiderdam cruise to Panama Canal after having enjoyed it on both the Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam.

There is no space available for a Tamarind restaurant on the Vista-class ships. Otherwise, they would have built them for sure

Yes, I just realized the Zuiderdam is only 11 decks as opposed to the 12 on the other two ships.  That's where I missed the boat, so to speak.  The kid's clubs are definitely located on some prime real estate on the Vista class ships, though.  Thank you for the head's up.

I want to share we were on the Koningsdam the week prior to dry dock and they were working on it while we were on board.  The banging noise was so bad, HAL gave us some cash and upgraded our next trip. I won't travel a ship immediately prior or after its time in dry dock.  My friend who works for RCCL makes sure that his mom is not on a ship prior or after and I learned from experience.

I was on the Nieuw Amsterdam 2 years ago right before dry dock (December 2017) and  Initially I had the same concern, but there were no problems while we were onboard.  The night before arriving back in Ft. Lauderdale, they closed the casino early and started dismantling the whole casino for the upgrades.  Before we left the ship the next day, we looked in the casino and it was stripped.

Folks often state that a maiden voyage is no good, but we were on the maiden Nieuw Statendam and it was wonderful.   As for the Zuiderdam, taking the 24 day June 8, 2020 and would LOVE to see a Dutch Café.   Very convenient for purchasing my Americanos every AM.

I thought they might use this opportunity for a build-out of Club Orange.  Just designating some space in the MDR isn't going to cut it.

Not familiar with Club Orange.  Can  you fill me in?

Hi, there will be a Meet & Mingle on the 11th of December in the Billboard onboard room. Let me know if you would like to join us.   Noticed that you are on the same cruise as us. B

.............................Wonder if they'll show movies on the Lido deck?

That's only being done on the two Pinnacle-class ships. Unlike K-dam and Nieuw S, Zuidy and her three sisters do not have the big screen up there and no plans to change that
