OhMyLard Posted August 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2019 I am thinking about doing a back to back Alaska cruise on different cruise lines. What's your thoughts?

Generally, cruises on two different cruiselines are fine. I don't know for sure what sorts of thoughts your looking for.

I will be in Vancouver anyway, just to get a different perspective of another cruise line, different ports of call, as you know, one can't see it all in one cruise. Rare mom says Posted August 5, 2019 #8 Share Posted August 5, 2019 I thought you said the itineraries are almost the same. Hey, it's your money, do what you want with it. Have you been to Alaska before? What happens if you find out on your first cruise that once was enough?

The ports we did were so overwhelmed with tourists.
Cruseforme Posted August 5, 2019 #10 Share Posted August 5, 2019 I say go for it! Or...our First Alaska Cruise 25 years ago was on Princess. They have a wonderful land program that you can do along with the cruise, check it out. Only you can tell what is right for you! We have been on 3 cruises to Alaska on 3 different cruise-lines, from Princess to Crystal, and been on 3 over land trips, and it never gets old. Well, truth be told, you can't see it all (on a cruise) at all. Even if you do two of them. Cruises just hit the port cities. Not really an overall view of Alaska, at all.

Cruzaholic41 Posted August 5, 2019 #17 Share Posted August 5, 2019 So are the itineraries the same or not? If so, I don’t recommend it. I recommend using the second week to land tour on your own.

I'd suggest spending some time on each of those cruise line's forums and reading up on how things are done on them, so you're a bit prepared for that. I've done a HAL cruise/tour a few years ago. I'm so glad we did it when we did, as the itinerary that we had isn't done any longer.

Deesquared Posted August 5, 2019 #23 Share Posted August 5, 2019 Another option would be to do a Northbound trip from Vancouver on one cruise line, then do the Southbound on a different cruise line. Then you have the option to stay for a bit in Anchorage and explore in between cruises.
