What do you think is going on?

I’ve been checking for price drops on my 10/24/2020 Mardi Gras sailing. It hasn’t shown up on the Carnival website for a few weeks but I just figured it was the glitch and it would reappear soon. Yesterday I searched for the sailing on some travel agent sites and when I clicked to do a booking an error message that the sailing was invalid now came up.

Today I called Carnival and after some time on the phone with the agent reaching out to her supervisor they said the sailing is sold out. I asked if it was a charter but she said no that she was told it was just sold out. I find that very hard to believe because no other sailings on the Mardi Gras are sold out yet and this is just a basic 7 night Eastern itinerary. So what do you guys think is going on?

I'm a bit confused. Are you already booked on the Mardi Gras for 10/24/2020, and you're checking for price drops? If the cruise is sold out, then there won't be any price drops.

Thanks everyone!

I didn’t know the 8/31 sailing was sold out too. I still think it’s crazy that it’s sold out more than a year in advance but maybe like @fyree39 says it’s travel agents holding cabins. I’d rather it be that than it be a partial charter that I’d be stuck on.

The 8/31 sailing sold out within 30-45 days after opening for bookings.  I was able to grab a front facing balcony during the first week.

I am on this sailing also.  I had no idea it was sold out until I read your post.  I booked this cruise back in June.  I had received a casino offer for a free interior cabin, but I paid extra to upgrade to a balcony cabin.  I don't usually do the new huge ships, but it was a great offer and we like cruising from Port Canaveral, so figured we would give it a try.  Hope we like it.  Enjoy your cruise.

Thanks Jenny! I’m sure we’re going to love this ship. It looks beautiful from the renderings and has great offerings. Enjoy 😊

It could be sold out, but when it gets past final payment travel agencies will release unsold cabins back into inventory. At least, that's what I've been led to understand from other posts/conversations about this sort of thing.

Not a travel agent, but have a good friend who is.  She cannot hold unsold staterooms for that amount of time.  I think it depends on the particular cruise, but in the past, one month was the longest.  She has had to return unsold cabins even earlier when the cruise starts booking quickly and the price starts going up.  That makes sense to me in that Carnival would not want unsold cabins held with locked in lower rates when they could be selling them at a higher rate.

What happens now when and if they change the Dated Date for celebration of Halloween?

Now that Carnival celebrate Halloween the whole month  of October, I can see the ship being sold out.  Halloween is a lot of fun on a Carnival cruise, plus kids are back in school.

It shouldn't make a difference if Carnival celebrates Halloween for the whole month.

A supposed 100,000 signatures out of the over 300 million people in the US on a petition addressed to the President? Halloween is not a federal holiday and the President may suggest communities change their trick or treating but he has no power to change the date. It wouldn't matter anyway. The entire month of October is celebrated on the ships just as Christmas is from Thanksgiving on to New Years.

The 10/24/2020 cruise is not available. It’s not even listed in the Mardi-Gras sailings.

That’s weird it was there this morning around 8:15 and actually all categories were available

The October 24th, 2020 Mardi Gras sailing just became available (again) this morning. It wasn't listed yesterday, but it is listed right now...

Ok so maybe it’s just me but when I search for Oct 2020 6-8 day sailings out of Port Canaveral I just get these 2 sailings. It’s the same if I search starting with the ship. What am I doing wrong? And why did Carnival say the sailing was sold out if every category looks available from the above screen shot?CDA3957D-1F76-4BA3-8785-B6FD73971D9E.thumb.png.c23f12daab494485499a772433f9f2e6.png
