The right room after narrowing it down?

Hello and Thank you for indulging me. I have read as much as I can and now I will ask a specific question in hopes of some advice.

We decided upon a 10 day Alaska cruise land first D6. We fly to Anchorage, 2 days Denali (with the dome train which I really wanted) and then southbound 7 nights. Originally we booked RT Vancouver and got a great Neptune aft on the 5th deck just perfect, but then changed our minds about itinerary.

I will speak to my consultant at HAL tomorrow to give her my final decision. We will either go July 2 or 9 depending on what is available (no other date works for us due to my teaching schedule).

July 2 is D6L Noordham and July 9 is D6L Westerdam.

We really want an aft and know port side is best for a southern cruise. On the website it only shows July 9 having any afts and 4185 appears to be the wrong side. Deck 6 also seems to have an aft but again starboard side. I know that it's possible that the website doesn't show all availability and perhaps my cruise specialist will magically have just what I want.

So my question  -

If it is truly the case that there are no aft Neptunes on the port side, what would you suggest and why? (I realize everyone has their personal opinion - that's what I'm asking for:)

Take an aft on the "wrong," side?

Take a suite mid ship not Neptune?

Are there afts that aren't Neptune?

Maybe we should keep the great room and stick with the 7 day cruise but I lean toward the itinerary being most important. THAT SAID - the cruise should be just right so maybe we should stick to the "right," room?

Thank you for your thoughts. Appreciated it!

Ellen

You cant go wrong with a Signature Suite. Pick one of those in the location you want.

Signature suites have aft location or go mid ship? Room isn’t the issue (I don’t care about the big suite though it would be nice. I Want a big balcony that my daughter and friend can sit on with us and a great view. I have never cruised before but we are celebrating 7 years cancer free so we are okay splurging. Just heard aft has best views and balconies that would let 4 sit comfortably. She and her friend will only have an ocean view no balcony. Thank you!

When I check my go-to site, for July 9 2020 sailing, it's showing port aft Neptunes available on 4, 6 and 7. July 2 sailing only giving GUAR for SB tier.

Ohhhh maybe I’m looking wrong? Port side?that matters southbound right? Or not a big Deal? Thank you!

If you just want spacious balcony, midship deck 7 Neptune SA tier on port side will do that. They are quite wide.

Oh that sounds great! Just as good a view as an aft? Again I realize it’s a matter of opinion

We did a Northbound on the Noordam. We had a starboard aft wrap around. We were able in May to sit out and enjoy that large deck without many layers of clothing. You do not have the wind from the motion of the ship hitting you. If we went up the side deck it was noticeably colder and we felt the wind more. You will have a view of both sides of the channel from your deck so it is not as critical as a side view Neptune. Yes there are three other aft facing suites on each level. I believe they are Vista Suites, so they probably go faster than the Neptunes.

Ah so you’re telling me if you had had port side on YOUR trip you would have had good views? Warmer matters to me. I should have mentioned that. I hope for some cover from wind or rain.  Thank you

If warmer matters a lot, go for the corner aft. It has more shelter. I wouldn't obsess about port or starboard.

Okay THANKS! Does it matter which level? I think there are a few on level 4, 6, and 7 as Trapper says.

Just a friendly FYI - the Guidelines say

This means you should not ask about someone's travel agent, nor should you respond in kind. Offering to email someone your travel agent's name or info is also not allowed, nor is asking members to email you for the information.

Neptune Suite -- with aft wrap around sounds great.  We prefer side suites near the Neptune Lounge -- port side.

Let us know what you get.

only once did I have a starboad side ca bin.  We always book port side mid ship Neptunes.  I don' t care for aft but that is just my opinion and others likely will not agree.
