What is your favorite deck and cabin to book on a cruise?

Last night i realized that my wife and i book the same lido balcony cabin on different ships for our next two cruises on horizon and panorama. They are just steps away from lido and the red frog bar. There is a ez door to go through and be away from crowds.  We have been in almost the same location in our last two cruises. Do others like a room or location on cruises?

On the Dream class ship, we book a Cove balcony forward, under the Guest Services area.

Spirit Class(Pride, Legend,etc.)  I book an Aft Vista Suite if I can. Next try is "bowling alley" balconies(twice the length at least). 3rd: regular balconies close to the  eloevators.  Prefer Deck 4-7.

Just sailed on the Pride. Had a bowling alley balcony on Deck 8. Very little noise. 11 pm seemed to be the cleaning time for the cleaning above me.

On the Conquest and Dream class, it's always a balcony on the Panorama Deck close to the elevators.  On the Horizon and our upcoming cruise on the Mardi Gras, it's one deck above the Lido Deck but they don't call it the Panorama deck anymore.  Now they are just numbers.  I think it was Deck 11 on the Horizon and it's Deck 16 on the Mardi Gras.  Again, both close to the elevators.  Port or starboard doesn't matter.

I look for unique cabins that may be the same category, but that offer more space or that have an odd configuration that may be more desirable than other cabins within the same category. I also look for cabins that may be considered “obstructed” but which have no obstruction, thus saving us money. Usually these offer the most bang for my buck. It takes a bit of research, but it pays off. 

 

on Carnival, one of the best kept secrets on the Conquest class ships used to be cabins 2462 and 2465. For some odd reason, these cabins used to be sold as 1A (cheapest upper/lower bunk rooms), but in reality they are spacious staterooms with two twin beds convertible to king and two panoramic windows. We booked it on the Carnival Liberty and it was one of the best staterooms I’ve ever had on a Carnival ship, and for cheap! Unfortunately, these rooms have now been reclassified as 6B categories, so the cat is out of the bag. 

 

When we sailed to Cuba on the Empress of the Seas which has TINY standard ocean view cabins, we booked a corner cabin (9664) which had double the space, two windows instead of one, and a separate area for the 3rd and 4th berth, all for the same price as one of the standard sardine can cabins. 

 

For our upcoming cruise on the Niew Statendam, we booked an “obstructed verandah stateroom” on deck 4 which are the cheapest balconies on this ship and are usually fully obstructed by lifeboats. But this stateroom is located at “the hump” so our balcony is twice as big and angled, and the obstruction is minimized since there’s no lifeboat blocking the view.

 

Princess is another cruise line that offers several staterooms that may be classified as obstructed but which are not. One of the absolute cheapest cruises I’ve ever taken was on the Golden Princess out of Los Angeles. We booked a fully obstructed ocean view stateroom on the Emerald deck (E218), but it had zero obstruction, plus our stateroom’s location was more desirable.

 

To me, it’s very satisfying to find these hidden gems and save some money in the process.

Our favorite is what you have booked - lido balcony mid-ship.

We always go for a balcony on Panorama.   We like it as high and forward as possible.  It's close to Lido and elavators.  There is very little foot traffic and the view from up there is fabulous.

I like to be close to the Lido deck....so we have easy access to Serenity, bars, kids club, water slides, etc.  Plus we take the stairs quite a bit, always easier to walk down to something than up 🙂

we prefer balcony midship near elevators, preferably a couple floors below Lido and 2-3 floors above the common areas (casino, shops, bars)

 

sadly, we don't enjoy hiking up stairwells any longer so we try to only walk up a floor or two. otherwise it's elevator time!   we certainly don't mind going down stairs however.

We typically book the Aft Balconies on deck 7, or whatever the middle deck is on the ship.

We always get 2 decks below the lido deck so we take the stairs a lot! LOL Work off some of the food and drinks!! Usuallt aft, but closer to mid ship!

My favorites are Aft Balconies.  Having said that if we are more on a budget I prefer balconies on a lower level near the Aft Elevators/Stairs.  Easy up the elevator to the buffet for a drink or snack and only up a flight of stairs or two to the entertainment level.

On the Spirit class, we like the "bowling alley' balconies. On the Dream class and Vista class we like the Cove balconies.

If we're on a Dream class and have the funds, deck 2 in a cove balcony as long as it's not under the galley. If booking interior, we like the "L shaped" cabins on deck 6 right off the aft elevators.

As close to deck 7 as we can get, close to Lido and down to dining rooms, etc., but only cabins above and below.   On the Spirit class we like the corner aft wrap suites, or the 'bowling alley balcony' cabins.   On Fantasy class we've stayed in cabin E75 several times on different ships.

Someone must have lost it after final payment was due, but I was just able to scoop up the first cabin through the doors on the Freedom and I'm pretty excited, especially because of how late I booked and only guarantees were available at the time. 😁

Spirit Class- Vista Views-Deck 4=heaven! We love the views and sounds, and deck 4 has a larger overhang for shade and privacy. After all of the food we eat, we can help to get our steps in too by walking all the way to the back of the ship.

I like the aft vista (corner) balcony on deck 7 or 8.  Second choice is aft facing extended balcony. 

 

I had a suite on the highest floor of the ship once towards the front and felt like I got tossed about quite a bit more than down more in the middle of the ship towards the back.
