Just so I understand correctly, is the offer from Amex or Celebrity?  Where do you locate the offer details?  I live in Canada and when I booked with Celebrity the agent had no idea about a Amex offer.

The Celebrity offer has been on US cards. They are listed on our online account. We get 100 offers at a time. Every US cardholder does not get the same offers so some US cardholders may not have the Celebrity offer. If you have a Canadian card it has been reported that you only get a few offers and I have not read anyone reporting the Celebrity offer on a Canadian card. Also US and Canadian Cards don’t have identical benefits.

Not every card participates in the offer. For example, Delta Skymiles Amex rarely has the cruise offers. Idkw. It seems the branded Amex cards are less likely to have the offers than the corporate ones (Blue, Green, Black, etc.)

Not every cardholder will be targeted for the offer.

Even the same card can show different offers. Some offers are very local.  I have offers for restaurants that only exist here in the DMV that you likely never heard of in Minneapolis. Also you won’t see all the offers available unless you add offers to your card. Otherwise you will have to wait for offers to expire. Add offers that you don’t intend to use to see additional offers. I have uncovered offers that way.

I have the standard American Express everyday card. I found the Celebrity offer as well as one for Princess ($100 off $500). I added both to my card and called my travel agent this morning to make the payment. Unfortunately my big box travel agent does not accept American Express and would not take the payment. I asked about calling Celebrity directly and was told that they should not accept a payment directly from me. Has anyone else had this experience and is there a work around or am I SOL?

I do not know if this would work, but I would try logging on to your reservations and making a purchase such as for OBC or specialty dining.

I hope it works for you!

Your travel agent should be able to log onto your reservation directly on the Celebrity site and use your Amex to make a payment. I do this all the time rather than making a payment with my parent agency.

The big box store that OP is using does not take Amex for purchases but I don't understand why the TA there would not do the above  or call Celebrity and give them the Amex number. The big iox has an exclusive agreement with Visa but the purchase is thru Celebrity. All I can think of is that the commission part has to go thru Visa.

Thank you for your thoughts. I have all 4 perks on this cruise so I don't really want to spend $500 extra, I want to lower my remaining balance. As Charles 4515 stated this big box store has an exclusive agreement with Visa and they refused to call Celebrity to make the payment directly. I escalated to a supervisor and no go. On the bright side the cruise price went down an additional $220 and I am paying for 3 cabins so that saved me $660 and the airfare for 3 of us went down a total of $2000 so I'm not overly concerned about my $150 AMEX offer.

Sorry for your difficulties. This is another example of the limitations of using the big box store for travel. One needs to weigh the perks vs. customer servoice.

I just called Celebrity directly not more than a half hour ago. I purchased $500 in onboard credit and charged it to my American Express card (where I had already selected the offer). Before I even got off the phone with the Celebrity rep, I had already gotten an email from Amex congratulating me on using my offer for $150 cash back on Celebrity. So to answer several questions, yes it does work if you purchase onboard credit.

FYI...I purchased my cruise from an online agency but went straight to Celebrity to buy the onboard credit. Hope this helps! Happy cruising everyone!!

Took the risk with casino credits.   I'm booked on the edge, but already paid in full.

Had  $150 back on a $500 purchase on my centurion and my blue cash.   Nothing on my plum business or plat.

On December 2nd,  I Purchased $500 worth of casino credit for myself (pre-cruise) on the cent,  and $500 worth of casino credit for my gf on my BC.  Because of the 10% bonus, that yielded $1100 in credit.

Within minutes I had emails thanking me for using the perk from Amex.

$300 in credits just posted today.   It took 7 days.      $700 for $1100 is a great deal.

On a side note,  we were on the Equinox in April, and the Casino must have been slow.     They ran the 10% off deal in the casino the last 5 days, but limited your purchasing to $5000 per day.      I simply used my business spark card and took out $5,000 per day, which immediately netted me $100 cash back.   With the bonus, I had $500 of free play.      Cycled them through the $5500 per day on $5 machines betting 5 lines, and somehow walked away with about $6k in winnings.  Broke even 2 days (within $100),  2 days I was +$1k, and one of the days ended up $4k)    Factor in the $500 cash back I received, and then the perks they are now giving me for being a "gambler" (we don't gamble except if it makes sense to do so) and this was a great experience.

When we got off the boat in Lauderdale, I deposited all of the cash into chase, and then paid off the card.   Win/Win of a calculated risk.

This offer seems to also apply to Azamara.  I have a booked cruise coming up and I like to pay my cruise fare with my CSR since it covers travel insurance.  I checked my credit card statements for a previous Azamara cruise from earlier this year and the prepaid package I bought online coded with the exact same wording as my TA"s passage charge.  So I assume I am good booking a charge using my blue cash AMEX directly with Azamara and getting the credit?

Since most things like tips and drinks are included with Azamara and my TA gives out a lot of OBC resulting in minimal onboard out of pocket charges,  if I prepay for more OBC using the AMEX and the refund goes to my CSR I assume it shouldn't be a problem.

Does anyone know if this will work as (2) separate charges? This deal came too late for me as I already have substantial OBC and fully paid for the January cruise.

That said, if I win a move up bid for $230, it would be hard for me not to pay an additional $270 to receive $150 back.

I thought I should write about the final result for our Amex offer. I didn't read the details closely enough so I charged $525 for 3 massages for  my 2 daughters and me. When I didn't get the refund I read the fine print and saw that Canyon Ranch Spa was excluded. Then I called and bought $500 of SBC directly from Celebrity. As soon as the charge posted I received my $150 refund. My husband and I will use the SBC in the Casino so I didn't buy anything I wasn't likely to spend anyway. Next time I'll be a pro!

Still haven't received ours! Added the offer, made a $500 payment on an upcoming cruise. No e-mail, no credit.

I just rechecked my account and it was added but on another statement, so it was a few days longer than what I am used to seeing ... about a week.  I didn't get an email, either.  But, I did get the credit.

After trying all the tips and tricks in this thread and in the Princess one multiple times, I never was able to get the offer on my card (Delta, so not surprising). However, last night, I was at dinner with my brother and found out that he has an AmEx Blue card. I asked him to check to see if the offer was there. He had never heard of rebate offers like this (I swear, we really are related; I got the penny-pincher and investor genes, he did not, though he does have an economics degree). Anyway, he added the offers and several others he might use, then gave me his card number.

Today, I called our mutual friend and travel agent, and had him make $500 payments on upcoming Princess and Celebrity cruises. I'll write my brother a check for $800 ($1000-$250+$50, to thank him for letting me do this).

While we were talking, Jack (oops, I mentioned a TA) said, "Hey, I also have an offer of $225 off of $750 on Oceania on my AmEx card. How 'bout I charge $750 toward your 2021 Oceania cruise and split the rebate with you?" I was thrilled! Every dollar counts!

Just adding another data point here. I called X this morning and bought a $500 OBC for cruise leaving 2/29 on Equinox. Received the Great News! Amex notification immediately. As others have said, it's always been my experience that if I get the email notification of offer redemption, I get the bill credit.
