International Cafe - why does it not smell of coffee?

Have you noticed when you’re at the international café that you never smell coffee? You know when you walk into a yummy Coffee shop the smell is divine. Are they using real beans to make a latte/cappuccino? I know it tastes fine but curious why it doesn’t have that divine fragrance.

Big open area. They do go through a lot of coffee beans.

Those latte/cappuccino machines are several thousand dollars.

They pump out the coffee drinks as well as the coffee brewing pots.

Brewed coffee prepared in the back. Yes, they use real beans. Brewed coffee is an arabica roast. Good ventilation. If there was a lingering coffee fragrance in the Piazza imagine the complaints.

Maybe real coffee shops are designed specifically to ensure that you have that great coffee smell.  They are not piping in fake coffee smell in a coffee shop although I am sure that they could but they are enhancing the existing smell.

The International Café is in a much larger area including the height of the atrium. There are also many other foods being served, versus typically much fewer in a smaller coffee shop.

Yes, I agree the height of the ceiling is certainly a huge factor in there not being a fresh ground coffee smell. High ceiling and multiple decks over which to disperse the odor. That makes for a gigantic space overall.

Except on the Coral where it is next to the casino and no high ceilings. There it might be nice to have the coffee smell to cover the occasional smell from adjacent areas 🤔.

I agree, just off the Celebrity Reflection and when you walk past their café, it's hard not to want a coffee because it smells so great!

Ahhhh… and a smoky espresso drink in the Coral... NOT! And not our favorite ship...

design screw up.

On my first cruise I was terribly disappointed to never smell the ocean, not once the whole week.  Then someone pointed out to me that the wonderful ocean smell comes from seaweed on the beach, not the saltwater itself.  If true, very disappointing.

Were you on a ship with an outside Promenade deck?  (only on the pre-Regal/Royal ships)  I'm not sure the small of seaweed is particularly pleasant--at least not when it's been on a beach for awhile.  We've done a lot of TAs on the older Princess ships and have enjoyed sitting out on the promenade deck when it was warm enough.  It seems to me there's a faint, pleasant smell to the ocean itself.  I've spent a lot of time along the beaches in the Outer Banks and while I don't think there was a strong smell, there was "clean" pleasant smell.

You have to understand that IC was added on at a later date. It may not be the ideal location but at least there is an IC. Island never did add the venue.

The IC is not in a small enclosed space like a cafe that can hold a couple dozen people. It is located on the bottom floor of a 3 story atrium without walls and doors enclosing it. A strong ventilation system keeps air circulating. There are other eateries on the three levels that can add to the aromas in the atrium as well.

As long as my cappuccino has a fragrant aroma as I raise my cup to drink, I'm happy.😊

Yes, we were, and we had a mini with a balcony.  Perhaps its because I grew up on the shore and frequented beaches in NY, NJ and Connecticut.  Very different from the Caribbean.
