woodscruise Posted February 7, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2020 (edited) Just checking Marine Traffic and is shows that Spectrum of the Seas is on the move to Manilla. I wonder where they are moving it to. https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:5851240/mmsi:311000749/vessel:SPECTRUM OF THE SEAS Edited February 19, 2020 by Host Star Title
LXA350 Posted February 8, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2020 If they currently have no use for Spectrum / are still considering how to proceed maybe RCL uses the opportunity to use the ship for practical purposes of crew recruiting / training given that a large number of crew in the fleet are recruited there? Another option could be that due to cheaper port costs in Manila compared to Busan for keeping the ship, although this is less likely since it also costs a lot of $$$ and fuel for the repositoning
Biker19 Posted February 9, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2020 She seems to have slowed down even more - now scheduled for Manila on 2/13.
BaikG Posted February 10, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2020 Another thing is that Busan wouldn't let ship crew disembark but Manila is apparently letting them. In addition, I think it would be beneficial for RCCL to move their ships south away from China, Korea, and Japan.
SelectSys Posted February 11, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2020 Very limited information on the Spectrum. Also, as the Westerdam found out, governments can change their mind at the last minute.
BaikG Posted February 11, 2020 #6 Share Posted February 11, 2020 However, what’s different about Spectrum is that it has been deemed a “clean ship” as it hasn’t had any passengers and hasn’t visited any ports in Taiwan, Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau in over 15 days whereas Westerdam has visited Hong Kong and boarded people from Hong Kong on Feb 1. Sail n Snow Posted February 12, 2020 #7 Share Posted February 12, 2020 (edited) It will be interesting to see what happens with Spectrum. We were originally booked on Voyager for a Tokyo - Hong Kong 8 night Cruise during the Olympics. They cancelled that sailing 2 months ago and have Voyeger (Jul-Aug) doing 3-5 night cruises out of Shanghai now. We had rebooked on 9 night out of Shanghai. I know the summer is a ways out but still can’t help wonder if things don’t get better in China over the next few months what RC will do. Or how far out they decide to change/reposition ships for the rest of the year. Edited February 12, 2020 by Sail n Snow

My own view is that it will take a while for this whole episode to die down and anyone that can cancel will likely do so. I expect RCI will do whatever they can do to maintain revenue. Spectrum is probably carrying mostly Chinese passengers so RCI may just stick it out. RCI may need to find other ports as it will take a while for the Japanese to accept cruise ships coming from China Edited February 12, 2020 by SelectSys
LXA350 Posted February 13, 2020 #9 Share Posted February 13, 2020 Spectrum most likely will not be moved out of Asia since the ship is in it's current configuration fully designed for the Chinese market. What coud maybe happen is, that once the situation calms down in Southeast Asia that the ship will be repositioned there for the time being to operate cruises originally planned for Quantum and in early Summer +- have the ship move back to Shanghai. hat would Quantum do in the meanwhile, they could move her to Europe for the summer and replace Explorer from Rome. Rare mr walker Posted February 24, 2020 #13 Share Posted February 24, 2020 (edited) Here is a summary taken from a variety of sources, including the cc Australia & NZ board: Spectrum will arrive into Sydney in the early evening of Sat 29th Feb. Ovation has turnaround that day & it is reported that they will do a sail-past together in the harbor around 6:30pm as Ovation departs and Spectrum arrives. Spectrum will dock at OPT wharf shortly after that. She will have no passengers onboard from current voyage from Manila, but is reported to be boarding 3,500 emergency service personnel that evening who will take a 4 night (just confirmed by RC) complimentary cruise to nowhere. She will have to depart before early morning on Sun 1st Mar latest, as another ship is due to dock at that time. A further 4N cruise will follow (Mar-7) for another batch of emergency service personnel, again complimentary.. After that is unclear. Conjecture about further Spectrum revenue cruises is out there, but there are no cruises listed on the RC website as of this morning. We currently have Radiance, Voyager & Ovation here downunder, all due to complete their seasons here soon & moving to Northern Hemisphere. Voyager is scheduled to move to Singapore, but there may be a change? Edited February 24, 2020 by mr walker updated info
MikeC1610 Posted February 24, 2020 #14 Share Posted February 24, 2020 Thanks for the info Mr Walker. Myself and my family live in Sydney and we are hoping Spectrum offers some revenue cruises at a reduced price from Sydney like the Sapphire Princess is doing from early May. Would be a great opportunity to snap up a bargain on an almost brand new ship. At the very worst you would have to think the Spectrum would offer a revenue cruise for the relocation from Sydney back to Asia or if not Asia to wherever RC decide to deploy the ship after its Aussie stint whenever that may be. Would be a real shame to bring the Spectrum down to Sydney and not offer some revenue cruises for the diehards. If you hear any news of revenue cruises be sure to let us all know. She arrived into Sydney and berthed at the OPT around 10:30pm last night (Wed) local time. She then moved early this morning to Athol Buoy in the Harbour, swapping places with Celebrity Solstice, which will depart this evening. As far as we can know, Spectrum will remain at anchor there until she replaces Ovation at OPT Sat evening. Ovation will pass by her around 6:30pm. This webcam shows Solstice at the wharf & Spectrum at anchor in the background (hope link works). https://www.thesebelquaywestsydney.com.au/webcam.html At anchor at Athol Buoy would be very pleasant on a lovely late summer day here in Sydney, but alas there are no passengers onboard. Maybe some TA inspections and similar??

J_Busworth Posted February 27, 2020 #25 Share Posted February 27, 2020 I am very excited to see Spectrum down under! Hopefully they will open up some revenue cruises - I'm sure plenty of people would love to snap up a cheap cruise on Australia's newest and largest cruise ship over the Easter School Holidays. With the coronavirus situation seemingly getting worse by the day, how long will Spectrum be out of Asia for? Sydney and surrounds are obviously much safer ports for the time being for her.
