Latest time for leaving the ship.

We are due to dock at 8:00am in Rome ( Civitavecchia), Italy.  Our flight is not until 2:50pm. We will schedule a private transfer to take us to the airport. We don't need to leave at 8:00, but just how late are we able to remain on the ship. We would rather kill time on the ship than at the airport. Any advice will be appreciated.

You must be off of the ship by 9AM, which dovetails into your flight time rather nicely.

tongue in cheek, I have always wondered how they could ever find you to chuck you off by a specific time? That's usually when we are having such a good time, we don't want to leave!

We were on the ship once until around 9:30 waiting for an Oceania post cruise to depart. Security had been given everyone’s name of those that had failed to depart the ship and they were scouring the ship. Watched them escort people to the gangplank!

your cabin card mate... they know who is where and when...  The ship needs to "zero out" all passengers for customs and immigration.  The crew  and security will sweep the ship to  make sure everyone is off. Untill that happens no new passengers can come on board....Even back to back passengers must get off for an hour or so.........

I knew they would know you were on the ship.  Just speculating how they would actually find you... Once we were sitting in the spa pool on the last morning until the very last minute and wondered how they would get us out the spa....

Do back to back passengers really have to get off? I am almost sure I have been on cruises were they have stayed on board...

Sorry.....everyone  means everyone and that includes back to back.   I have had to many times..  When they sweep the ship they know who you are and have your picture from your card.   I would suspect that trying to elude or hide out that you might be in for trouble with immigration and the law.    I would not play games,

The B2B passengers, when in the US, meet in a specific room and are escorted off the ship to the hallway in the terminal.  There are a couple of agents who look at your passport and then you can get back on board.  But on our Med B2B this past May,  we didn’t have to do anything other than pick up our key card at Guest Services.

so are you saying in the Med you did not have to get off? That's sort of what I remember as well

We didn't have to leave the ship on our Buenos Aires - Miami cruise. Since we booked the itinerary as a Grand Voyage, we didn't have to pick up new key cards either.

In which port did you not have to leave the ship? Was it Rio?

We did a back-to-back in Europe in 2018 and were not required to leave ship during disembark/embark process.

The same for us.  I just checked my diary to make sure.  The ending point of the first itinerary in May 2018 was Civitavecchia.  We did not have to leave the ship (and I didn't note needing to get new cards but I also do not remembering having to do so).  We had intended to walk out to the Fortress to finally see it but my notes say that when I saw the length of the walk I changed my mind.  So we did stay on the ship.

I had thought that I remembered walking to the ship on one of our visits there but I must have been wrong!

Not entirely true...as we have had the customs fold come onboard and do their thing with their portable machines on a couple of our latest B2B's.....It depends as we have also had to disembark for a quick walk through the disembarkation area and walk straight back onto the shio.

How about this:

1. If you are disembarking the ship, you must be out of your cabin by 8:00 and off the ship by 9:00.

2. If you are not disembarking the procedures varies as to ports and/ or countries. There is no one size fits all answer to procedures on b2bers.

Is that simple enough?
