Nightlife on QM2

Hi, I have never sailed with Cunard before, mostly go with Celebrity, but really fancy a change as we like to dress up, for formal nights, but also like to Dance, (not ballroom) and have seen a great deal for a TA.

So my question is, can anyone tell me what is the Nightclub like, is it live music, DJ? and what time does it stay open to?

Thank you in advance

It's usually a mixture of both, the DJ will play when the band take their break. There is usually a party night where the nightclub band play in the Queens Room so the DJ will play all night in G32.

Closing time is shown as "Late", I've never stayed up long enough to find out !

There are links to photographs and Daily Programmes in the Welcome sticky at the top of the board.

Never stayed later than just after 01.00, with people still dancing, if this assists.

It CAN go as late as 3:00 am, but only if it's busy, otherwise it closes anytime after 1:00 am if it's quiet.

You certainly won't be stuck for anything to do whilst aboard, and I'm sure your first won't be your last.

Have fun

Jeaannie55....many people say that there is "ballroom dancing" in the Queen's Room on QM2 every evening.  My husband and I just love to dance.  I call us social dancers.  Social dancing is what is done on the floor of the Queen's Room. I know Cunard does advertise ballroom dancing.  However, on the cruises I have been on, there is no room for ballroom dancing.  The floor can get really packed.  Then I see pictures or videos of the Queen's Room floor and there is ooddles of room. I would like to book a cruise where the dance floor is only half full and not crowded. You never know how busy it will be. Always very busy on Gala nights though.

On Gala nights, there is a professional dance couple that do a lovely presentation of ballroom dancing.

Before the orchestra starts every evening, they have recorded music and some nights have the Syncronized Dancing. This is a British thing from what I have been told. I see that you are from England. You could find out about that before you sail.

Most evenings G32 is really busy. Cover band or recorded. Band is usually good.

I advise you to try Cunard and I am sure you will enjoy the dancing. My DH and I and lots of other people do.

See you onboard.....hopefully soon.

Dear Jeaannie,

First Welcome to the Cunard Family and a Newbie on the Queen Mary 2, a one of a kind Ocean Liner. As said in the past, once you board her and experience a sailing on her you will easily return back on board.

Yes there is many activities mostly during the Day at Sea on board but the Magic starts to develop from 6 PM on. Some nights are Informal Dress but we look forward to the Formal ones. With most Dressed to the Nines. Of course there are (2) Two Evening Showcases in the Royal Court Theater which we always look forward to seeing. Some are Broadway/Show Theme performances like Broadway Rocks. Some evenings there are Musical and Entertainment Performers Some give it a mixed opinions but we appreciate the efforts the Performers display.

There is also the other Bar Type Rooms that offer entertainment like the Carinthia Lounge, Chart Room and Golden Lion Pub.

Carinthia Lounge (Deck 7) have various entertainers like Harpist, Pianist and Duo as an example.

Commodore Club (Deck 9) offers a Pianist during Evening Cocktail/Social Gatherings.

Chart Room (Deck 3) offers for your listening pleasure ex Jazz and visiting Quartets.

Golden Lion Pub (Deck 2) offers you various entertainment over the days sailing like Trivia, Duos, Quartets, Guess the Melody and even Guest Karaoke.

Queens Room (Deck 3) offers various entertainment at different times of the evening on various days. Before the Orchestra, Pre Recorded Tempo Music, Ballroom & Latin or Sequence Dancing selections. There Evening Themes like Black & White Ball, Royal Cunard Ball, Masquerade Ball, Royal Ascot Ball to name a few assigned to sailings. Towards Midnight there is a short period of Recorded Casual Music.

And last but not least, the G32 Disco (Deck 3)..which offers music by Disco by the DJ and the Visiting Band like Purple Haze or Vibes as examples. The last selection around Midnight is offered by the DJ to the wee early hours.

Of course there is also the Empire Casino to chance your Luck...

We have mostly cruised with Princess and were expecting QM2 t nightclub to be a bit stuffy but were pleased to find it wasn't. We've been on two QM2 cruises and found the nightclub G32 brilliant with live band - the dance floor is small but lots were dancing and the place was packed with a great vibe. The DJ takes over when the band finishes. We left about 1am. The nightclub is next to the ballroom and you can go in and out from one place to the other in long evening gown /tux quite easily with no one batting an eyelid.

I have been in G32 til 5 AM, although 3 AM or even earlier is more common.

Avoid the Queens Room on party nights and during galas. The orchestras vary from lacklustre and monotonous to woefully off-tempo. Recorded music during the breaks seems to vary with the sound technician, sometimes quite good. If you're looking for something like mambo, bachata or paso doble, talk to the social hostess, maybe the sound tech can accommodate.

On formal nights can you change into something more casual if you are simply visiting the nightclub?

ref  G32,  Can one change into something more casual on a formal evening. ?

I guess you can, but why bother. Most people will move on into the G32 after an evening in the ballroom or from other venues around the ship, for a night cap and just to enjoy the music and people watch  .  Gentlemen ( my self included) will  probably  loosen their bow tie and/or remove their jacket if they intend to spend the evening ( well into the early hours) dancing,  ladies might find it a challenge in a long gown.

Although it's acceptable to wear something more casual in the G32, the G32 on QM2 is still a sophisticated nightclub it's not really a jeans and T-shirt  sort of venue .

I've been known to stagger out of there way past 3am 😉

That's what I was thinking.  Although I don't wear a long gown I've seen some women whose dresses just about scrape the floor.  I would think dancing anything other than a slow waltz or similar might prove rather difficult.

Hello,

G32 is variable. It depends what you are looking for, the cruise and who is onboard. I’ve been on one short cruise where one person was so drunk they were taken out in a wheelchair. However, that is not the normal Cunard experience and I’ve never experienced anything remotely similar since.

On my recent Transatlantic crossing, G32 tended to be much busier on the gala nights. I’ve just taken a look back through my photos and there were several taken post 5am (although I think they may have been UK time and not ship’s time!). But the party certainly went on until the small hours. Funnily enough that was the same evening that we experienced hurricane force winds. We were all over the dance floor and it wasn’t just the 10 hours odd of drinking! A Chris Frame video was taken on the same evening and is available on YouTube if anyone is interested.

The DJs are very receptive to requests, which I love!

One of the highlights was then being able to order a room service sandwich and fries. Certainly beats a kebab van......!

In respect of dress, G32 is a “casual” venue, however, most gents still wear their blazers/suits/dinner suits. I do sometimes change my shoes if I’m planning to hit the dance floor hard.

Have a great time and shout if you need more.

We also sailed through a hurricane.   They took the usual precautions against items falling off shelves and they placed those lovely bags all over the ship.   We actually hardly felt much movement but we weren’t allowed outside.    The captain also requested that ladies leave their heels in the cabin and wear sensible shoes.

I know what you mean.

My wife and I have always found the best nights to have 'space' to really do our thing is on the first night and the final night of a trans Atlantic.

Then of course there is always the 'Tea Dance' which generally never sees the floor overcrowded.

Never personally been known to relax that bow tie myself but it does happen.

Spot the two retired Naval Officers here in the G32 on a Formal Night...

night life imho really depends first on the cruise itself [TA,s tend to be quiet] ,carib cruises can get loud and down under cruises go through cases of booze ....second: passengers ....there are some who can start a party anywhere and they are just fun to be around at all hours ..........2 weeks and a 4 grand bar tab....everybody was happy
