Let's pretend we can cruise again. I have some questions.

I understand the answers to my questions may change if/when we ever got to cruise again. I have my fingers crossed. I got an offer from Princess for a free stateroom in June 2021, so I booked one.

It has been a long time since I have cruised with Princess ( not since 2009). I know there is no smoking in rooms or balconies, but what else has changed?

What are people wearing in the dining rooms for non-formal night dinners?  Not what the dress code says, but what people really wear. Now the same question about formal nights.

Do they still offer warm cookies/milk in the afternoons?

Is there a smoking section in the casino on the Caribbean Princess? Is there still a cigar room?

Is there trivia? Crafts? Movies?

How about a deli? A hamburger joint? I saw they have a hot dog area.

Again, I know if/when Cruising returns thins will be different. I do have hope though, that one day I will be back on a ship.

What are people wearing in the dining rooms for non-formal night dinners? Not what the dress code says, but what people really wear.

Smart Casual, no shorts. Shorts may be allowed on boarding day. You may be turned away if you have torn or ripped jeans or slacks.

Now the same question about formal nights.

Men generally suite or jacket & tie. Some jacket, no tie. A small amount may be in a sport or dress shirt with or without a tie. Some but no many in tux. Women always seem to know what to wear, nice dresses or outfits. Very few in actual gowns. No shorts for men or women.

Do they still offer warm cookies/milk in the afternoons?

I haven't seen waiters walking around with milk & cookies for some time. Cookies are available basically 24/7 (excludes breakfast hours) at the International Cafe. Milk and cookies are available at the buffet. No charge for food at the International Cafe.

Is there a smoking section in the casino on the Caribbean Princess?

Smoking is permitted at some slots while playing. Believe these slots are on the port side. No smoking at any table games. Some evenings are smoke free, generally these are the formal evenings.

Is there still a cigar room?

Yes, deck 6 forward, Churchill's Lounge. This is the only location on the ship where you can smoke cigars or pipes.

Is there trivia? Crafts? Movies?

Trivia, yes twice a day both port and sea days. Also some evening trivia.

Movies Under the Stars. Newer movies shown each evening. Some older movies shown during the day. Movies on demand in the cabin. Sometimes there may be a movie shown during the day in the theater.

Crafts. Maybe. Depends on the itinerary. Usually a fee if they have it.

How about a deli?

No

A hamburger joint? I saw they have a hot dog area.

Burgers, dogs and other selections available at the Salty Dog Grill starboard side by the Lido Pool from 11am until mid evening. Regular burgers are good. The special Ernesto Burger has a $5 charge. I never tried it. The extra $3 for a beer is a good value since most beers are twice that. Slice pizza is also on the Lido deck port side,.

Again, I know if/when Cruising returns things will be different. I do have hope though, that one day I will be back on a ship.

Answers above apply to the Caribbean Princess. Our thinking is 2022 for a more normal cruise experience.

Just wanted to say "Thank you!" for a complete, easy to read, non-judgmental answer.  I did not ask the question; but, your helpful,  thoughtful  answer is exactly why I  started reading Cruise Critic.   Thanks for maintaining the tradition.

yes to the following: warm cookies/milk in the afternoons?

Is there a smoking section in the casino on the Caribbean Princess? Is there still a cigar room?

Is there trivia? Crafts? Movies?

How about a deli? A hamburger joint? I saw they have a hot dog area. those were all still there on my last cruise (November - December 2019)

I've seen it offered on most ships. You just have to time it right and be at the pool at the right time.

In addition to skynight's info...the are smoking areas outside - one is aft on the Promenade and one is in the area of the Terrace Pool.

@skynight gave great answers. Just a couple of other notes above.

Since your last cruise 11 years ago there have been some cut backs. One thing I like is the less formality particularly on formal nights. Like others we want to pack in one suitcase to avoid the fee's on airlines. Dress shirt and ties are more normal with jackets not so much. Food is still abundant but who knows if and how the buffet will be handled.

You say Princess offered you a free room. I'm happy for you but offended that those loyal cruisers like myself have been ignored and waited (and still waiting) for full compensation from our cancelled cruises.  Feels like we got the shaft while newbies are getting stoked.

I apologized in a different post, and I am sorry. I really did not mean to offend anyone about the free room. My post was not meant to piss anyone off. I was just excited. I understand  the waiting game for refunds. I had a 14 day on Holland cancelled because they sold my ship.

As to how I got the offer, I really do not know. I know when you cruise Carnival, Holland or Royal Caribbean, your offers are based on the number of points you accumulate.(amount of dollars you play through the machine....really does not matter how much you win or lose). We cruise Carnival the most, and I have never been offered a free room from them. Discounted, but never free. The offer came in an e-mail. If I knew how to screenshot, I would do so. I tend to look at all my cruise e-mails nowdays.

If I knew how to screenshot, Hit the "printscreen" button on your keyboard, this copies what is on the screen at that moment to your clipboard. Open microsoft paint (most PC & Laptops have this) and paste the content of the clipboard .I would do so. I tend to look at all my cruise e-mails nowdays.

You personally didn't piss me off, If I were offered a free cruise I'd jump in. It's Princess that I wonder about. It seems to me they should take care of their most traveled and frequent cruisers first. Loyalty seems to be a one way street with them.

Simple math, they make less $$ off of loyal customers.

Currently the "loyal" aren't generating much of a cash flow for them, so it's time to bring in new blood, and new $$$.

Why did Princess give you a free stateroom in June 2021?

Kindly tell us how you managed it

I would also like to know! We are not "loyal" Princesses nor are we brand new. We have a grand total of 2 cruises so far. We have 52 others on various other lines with Elite/Platinum status on some.  We would love to have a free cabin! There was another poster who got one on another thread last week.

These offers are reserved for players who contributed a lot of income to the casino in their past Cruises

Not entirely true..... lots of folks over the years have posted here wondering why they got a great casino deal when they never/hardly play.

Wannagonow123 posted that it was not a Casino offer as they had not cruised since 2009!

My guess would be to lure them back to the cruise line. To heck with all us cruisers who got cancelled and had to wait months for our money back!!!!

Wannagonow123 ---we are not ticked at you at all. I for one like to know these things. Sherlock and I will get to the bottom of this!!!
