A year ago today, we were in Barcelona on the Nieuw Statendam. We used Barcelona Day Tours and did the Barcelona Highlights tour. I'd actually never had a desire to go to Barcelona, however, that stop made me look forward to visiting again (some day). I've never been an architecture person, either, but how could you not be in Barcelona? I was gobsmacked all day long! What a pretty city! 

We started the day by parallel parking the ship!

Our day in Sydney, Nova Scotia was a down day for us. We passed the time relaxing and watching Zuiderdam's tenders shuttle back and forth, and then led the way out that evening.

Last year was a sea day for us, but 3 years ago today we were in Boston on our east coast cruise.  Love that city!  We walked almost 7 miles that day, including the Freedom Trail.

Visited the Villa Farnese the most amazing maps in an pentagonal palace, with an a over night stay in Viterbo. Precruise.

Last year was Thanksgiving dinner on the Nieuw Statendam, after a full touring day in Aix-En-Provence Cassis and Marseilles, which we booked through ItalyTours. I never figured that out, but it was a good day!

We had rough seas a year ago and weren't able to get to Livorno -- so we used it as a packing day because in a couple days we would be leaving the Nieuw Statendam after 39 days and boarding the Koningsdam in Civitavecchia.  

Here's a photo of the wake from our cabin (LOVE aft views), our most fabulous cabin stewards Arye and Agus (best in over 25 cruises, I cried when we said goodbye) and the towel animal they did for us that night.  I laughed so hard and still laugh when I see this.  🙂

The Amsterdam had an overnight call in Yokohama but my entry today will have a distinctive Crystal flavor.  Crystal was founded by Japanese company NYK, and I visited the NYK museum in their former Yokohama office:

 

 

Like HAL, NYK started out as an all inclusive maritime company with both cargo and passenger liners.  They left the passenger business in 1960 but one of their last ocean liners, the Hikawamaru ia  museum ship in the harbor.  I learned what it was too late to visit it.

 

 

Most of the HAL ships have plaques in the stairwells.  These are part of a plaque exchange with the port authorities, although we rarely see the ones given by the ship to the port.  The plaque given by the Amsterdam to Yokohama during the 2010 GWV was on display.

 

 

In the evening a local drum group performed in the showroom:

On this day we visited Halifax, Nova Scotia. The day started out cool with a low lying intermittent layer of fog, but warmed with the sun and we had a lovely day. 

 

We took the Harbourwalk along the waterfront and visited the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

 

One of the highlights of the visit for Lori was meeting Merlin. We had looked in on his webcam off and on for months.

 

The museum has an extensive display on the Titanic that includes several artifacts from the ship. But the section relative to the Halifax explosion of 1917 was the most poignant. The room containing the Halifax Explosion Memorial Quilt and panels listing the names of the deceased was especially moving.

 

We thoroughly enjoyed our walk along the waterfront. There were many interesting memorials, businesses, and other sights to experience. This picture of the Zuiderdam shows either someone's sense of humor with the light posts, or else we don't want to be in Halifax when the wind blows....

 

We would love to visit Halifax again.

While we couldn't do Monaco, the captain had has diverted to Ajaccio, Corsica. It was a windy and WET day, but we managed to dodge the raindrops once the rain stopped while on a  double decker bus tour.

We did have some excitement when, doing a tour on a double bus, one of the passengers fell and hit her head. It was some time before an ambulance came, but then there became an issue of getting her down from the top level. Another ambulance and a firetruck finally came to get her down. Luckily, the rain that had caused the accident (moving on the wet floor when a bump was hit) stopped for the rest of the day.

@bennybear, I'm so glad that you started this thread. It is so nice to review our cruise, and bring up some great memories!

We were on the Volendam in Jeju, South Korea this day four years ago.  We did a trans-Pacific from Vancouver to Hong Kong. We visited bonsai gardens and the glass castle (I think it was called).

October16, 2017, my second day in Yokohama on the Amsterdam was not a good weather day.  I had an all day to   Hakone National Park, about a 2-hour bus ride from town and would take a cable car to the summit of Mt. Komagatake, which should have views of Mt. Fuji.  The winds were so strong nobody left the lodge at the Komagatake summit.  This is our view of Mt. Fuji:

 

 

A mural at the top showed us what we should have seen, quitebeautiful:

Three years ago we were in NYC on our East Cost cruise.  We did the Hop on Hop Off bus that day.  Here's a photo of the Statue of Liberty as we sailed by, One World Trade Center, and the 911 Memorial.

October 17th, 2013 arrival Malta. We still wish to continue our visit, but....other cruises followed. Interesting little country.

Good morning. On this morning we took an excursion from Portland, ME to ride the cog railway up Mt Washington, New Hampshire. The weather was perfect at the bottom, and clear, cold, and quite frosted at the observatory on the summit.

 

It was a very enjoyable day and the views were fantastic.

I’ve always wanted to do a walkover!  Booked one for next spring on the maiden voyage of the Ryndam/Rotterdam but alas it no longer works with the delay on the Rotterdam ☹️

It was the first time we've done it, we loved it!  We even had the same cabin on both ships.
