Rare CineGraphic Posted November 27, 2020 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2020 (edited) While checking prices for our 8/14/21 booking, I noticed that all of these sailings are now not available. We just booked this a few weeks ago when they redeployed the Crown from the British Isles sailings to LA. We booked a great casino deal for this sailing, so I hope they'll match it if we have to re-book. Edited November 27, 2020 by CineGraphic
casofilia Posted November 28, 2020 #2 Share Posted November 28, 2020 July not available too. I wonder if there has to be a major reorganization of Princess ships in case the new ships do not arrive and so Princess is holding off taking any more bookings. caribill Posted November 28, 2020 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2020 I see no available cruises on the Crown until November 6.
Wichard Posted November 28, 2020 #4 Share Posted November 28, 2020 In my experience that is not a good sign, With Pacific Princess our "No Longer Available" voyage was recently cancelled. You may wish to look at other dates and ships, but for us 2022 looks to be more favorable. Wichard

Wichard The crazy thing is, the Crown was just redeployed when we booked this a few weeks ago, and now it seems that they are making even more changes. I know Covid has made things difficult, but one has to wonder what changed since they started accepting bookings and taking deposits a few weeks ago. EllieinNJ Posted November 28, 2020 #6 Share Posted November 28, 2020 This is the same for the Sky Princess. All Canada & New England cruises plus my 14 day cruise NY to Ft Lauderdale for Nov 6th also says not currently available.

I was looking at the Nov. 6th cruise and noticed it states not available now (in UK). Maybe this is due to the CDC new ruling on no cruises over 7 days until November 1st. Rare Cruise Raider Posted November 28, 2020 #8 Share Posted November 28, 2020 I noticed over a week ago that the Crown Princess sailings out of LA and the Ruby Princess sailings out of San Francisco have all shown as not available. This is just my assumption but, I still see that Carnival is showing sailings out of these two ports. Maybe they just haven't caught up but, maybe and even possibly, these ports out of California are only allowing a very limited cruise schedule and Carnival managed to secure the contract for those sailings. Again, just an assumption but a plausible one. It just seems that no cruise ships are going to double up in the ports this year, not in California, anyway. Heck, we just lost our indoor eating privileges after having them for a few short weeks.

Are not available either.
Rare CineGraphic Posted November 29, 2020 Author #10 Share Posted November 29, 2020 Well, with a great casino offer expiring on the 30th, and not knowin when Princess will tell us what's up with the Crown, we went ahead and cancelled our booking on the Crown and booked something on the Majestic later in the year. That was probably a smart move. Does it seem as though Princess may have offered upgrades, free cruises, great pricing, etc. probably knowing, full well, they were never going to ever happen? Maybe as a means to avoid massive refunds all at one time while still promoting future bookings??

The thought briefly crossed my mind that they may have offered low prices for these sailings just to get bookings & deposits for some much needed cash flow with no plans of ever sailing, but then I thought about the bad publicity they'd get if a thing like this was ever proven/exposed. The last thing any cruise line needs right now is bad publicity, so I'm going to assume that it's either a deployment change, or they plan on selling the ship, until Princess makes an official announcement.

1emerald1 Posted December 6, 2020 #14 Share Posted December 6, 2020 My May 15 Mexico was just cancelled and my 8/21 Coastal had an itinerary change, Catalina Island for Monterey. I'm going to call my PVP hopefully tomorrow and see if I can find out what's going on.
1emerald1 Posted December 8, 2020 #15 Share Posted December 8, 2020 Just spoke with my PVP and he heard that there may be a ship switch out for the Crown but would not confirm which ship may be swapped in.

I also took a great casino offer, booking out as far as possible (feb 22). I wasn’t going to book anything until they actually started cruising again. If they take my “dream cabin” (aft vista suite) away from me, they can keep the $200 deposit. Wait it was a refundable deposit , so what would the point be. Oh well, it’s giving me something to dream about. I’ve already gone from dreaming about that one (Baja Mexico 10 day out of LA) to chatting with hubby today about how w3 could in theory switch on feb 13. 2022 from the Ruby to the Grand and go to Hawaii. Then we realized that would really be a stretch. Would they really be letting us switch like that from one ship to another ? Sounds very familiar like the crew member who switched to the Grand at the beginning of all this.
sprinkles Posted December 9, 2020 #17 Share Posted December 9, 2020 Ok what happened to the edit button? Too long since booking a cruise, after posting I figured out that we’re booked on the Grand! Lol. Wow, too funny, so if these cruises actually GO, could book b2b and stay on for Hawaii .
kiwimum Posted December 9, 2020 #18 Share Posted December 9, 2020 We are booked on the June 26th Mexico 7 day which has not been cancelled. Our PVP has indicated a ship swap is in the cards and to hang tight.

Well, we may never know, but the cynic in me tells me that this was a distinct possibility that is exactly what happened. I know a lot of this has to do with the CDC and restrictions in particular coastal states so, maybe they just took the 'give away the farm' technique to get people to book. We had been 'given' some incredible deals, upgrades, perks, etc. on cruises that were just never going to happen ... looking back on these bookings, of course. Three of the six of our booking that have already been canceled most likely fit into this category. I now see there is a great statement credit offer from Amex and some bonus gift card offers from Princess but, I just can't see throwing good money at something that may never happen. We only have 4 bookings left after so many cancelations. Now, we have FCCs and gift cards to cover everything we have in mind beyond what is already booked. I won't even bother booking anything else until we've heard that departing horn blow with a glass of bubbly in hand. Besides learning my lesson on having several bookings out there, I have really learned which travel agents and PVPs I will trust with my future travel plans. One lied, another just couldn't be bothered while another one tried to get me to pay off the cruise in full a month early so, she could get her full commission. I've only had one that helped me through the compensation mess. Guess who I will go back to in the future?

Rare ceilidh1 Posted December 11, 2020 #24 Share Posted December 11, 2020 Just checked my August Crown booking and it now says Ruby Princess. Same room, flights, details, just different ship. No notification from Princess yet.
enfuego4cruising Posted December 11, 2020 #25 Share Posted December 11, 2020 I received notice from my TA this evening that our August 7th 2021 cruise on the Crown has been changed to the Ruby. I verified it on on my Princess account. Same cabin, pricing, credits, and even the casino play is intact. We have previously sailed on both ships. We liked them both. Save for a specialty restaurant (Sabatini's vs Share), they are virtually identical, so it does not seem like an inconvenience at all. When the Crown itineraries where initially announced for next spring/summer, there was some Princess fanfare to go with it. So much for that. I did not do any digging to see where the Crown will be during the time period that it was supposed to sail out of L.A. Lots of moving parts are in play to restart the cruise industry. What a logistical nightmare. Hoping that this sailing will launch. It is the next one on the books for us after so many dashed hopes.
