crazy cat lady 83 Posted February 26, 2021 #376 Share Posted February 26, 2021 Honestly these daily photos give such a boost to the day and a lovely distraction from the usual work and home schooling! It also gives me a kick to save even harder for when this rubbish is all over and to not keep spending money on take away coffees 😂 4
ann141 Posted February 26, 2021 #377 Share Posted February 26, 2021 We haven't been to Istanbul or Kusadai but have loved looking through the photos.Definitely places to add to my 'to visit' list
Dermotsgirl Posted February 26, 2021 #378 Share Posted February 26, 2021 We called at Kusadasi in 2007 and went to Ephesus, which I thought was superb. But I wasn't too keen on Kusadasi itself, as there seemed to be a lot of 'tourist hassle', which I don't like. We went on two further cruises that called at Kusadasi, and stayed on board both times
Ardennais Posted February 26, 2021 #379 Share Posted February 26, 2021 (edited) We’ve only been here once, in 2015, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay apart from the pushy vendors. We managed to do quite a lot in one day. Mary’s House and Wishing Wall Edited February 26, 2021 by Ardennais
Ardennais Posted February 26, 2021 #380 Share Posted February 26, 2021 We also had a lovely meal on the terrace at the Korumar Hotel and visited St John’s Basilica before ending the day in a carpet factory.
Ardennais Posted February 26, 2021 #381 Share Posted February 26, 2021 Ephesus itself was fascinating, in particular the magnificent Celsus Library.
Izzywiz Posted February 27, 2021 #382 Share Posted February 27, 2021 Good morning everyone, it is gorgeous here with a clear blue sky but quite a frost but it was lovely and warm as we sailed into Rhodes harbour at the end of November 2015... The ship docks so close to to the old town which is a real bonus...

Izzywiz Posted February 27, 2021 #384 Share Posted February 27, 2021 We like the Med in the low season when the weather is usually OK and the places are not crowded. We have been in Rhodes in August and it was lovely but packed!!!
Izzywiz Posted February 27, 2021 #385 Share Posted February 27, 2021 We particularly enjoyed the walk up the hill from the town to the castle...
Izzywiz Posted February 27, 2021 #386 Share Posted February 27, 2021 Our first visit to Rhodes was in 1992 on our first cruise and we went to Lindos. I only have 3 photos from that visit because it was in the days before digital cameras so we had to eke out our pictures to fit in with the 36 on a roll of film!!! We look so young too. For some reason the pictures that I scanned from photographs sometimes post sideways and I can't find a way to turn them round so apologies.... I'm now looking forward to Port Said!

Gettingwarmer Posted February 27, 2021 Author #389 Share Posted February 27, 2021 You can also travel though tunnels in the wall and down steps into the trench around the town. And you can also walk along the top of the wall at certain times.

zap99 Posted February 27, 2021 #391 Share Posted February 27, 2021 Fantastic pictures of Rhodes, unfortunately ours are on a USB stick somewhere. Looking forward to Cairo as we haven't been there. On a land holiday in Rhodes we were told there was a 24 hour air traffic strike starting at the time of our flight. They took us to the airport anyway. At check in they told us there was a 24 hour strike, so the flight would be delayed about an hour.🤔
DamianG Posted February 27, 2021 #392 Share Posted February 27, 2021 (edited) I missed Kusadasi yesterday which (funny enough) is exactly what happened on our 2008 Oriana cruise when I had a slight upset stomach. There was norovirus onboard so I thought that the responsible thing to do was report my symptoms to the doctor but I wasn't expecting to be confined to the cabin for 48 hours! Never mind, on to Rhodes where we didn't stray too far from the port and just had a stroll followed by a beer in a boot glass. Aulanis Posted February 27, 2021 #393 Share Posted February 27, 2021 Great pictures, think one day will not do it justice, but its probably too far to fly for a few days? Havent been to Cairo on a cruise ship but might have a picture or 2 somewhere. I think we did a land tour that included Cairo & Alexandria.

I’ve visited Rhodes 3 times on a cruise ship and twice on holiday at a hotel on a Rhodes town beach. There is so much to see at Rhodes town and we never made it to Lindos.
Gettingwarmer Posted February 28, 2021 Author #395 Share Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) Arrived in Port Said. We visit Valetta next. On the way to Cairo, views and river trip. Light show at night. The next day. We went to ehe Cairo museum but were unable to take any photos, so here is one of Tutankamun's Mask I took at a shop. Izzywiz Posted February 28, 2021 #397 Share Posted February 28, 2021 Egypt was definitely out of our comfort zone when we went in 1992 on our first cruise and I was very nervous of a place and culture that was so different to our own but I was captivated. That first visit gave us the confidence to visit many more 'exotic' destinations in our future travels. These pictures are from that 1992 trip and I'm having the same problem with them being sideways so apologies for that and for the outfits!!!

Aulanis Posted February 28, 2021 #399 Share Posted February 28, 2021 Failed to find ANY pictures of Cairo & surrounds which is a mystery though I did find these mystery pictures which I am sure are Port Said from a distance. It actually reminds me of Shanghai when we first went with miles and miles of shipyards and docks. That has now all gone and been replaced with miles of highrise offices wonder if that will happen here? Sorting pictures was a retirement project - retired 8 years ago so maybe should get started on it!!!
