Do the cabins not have a magnifying mirror on the desk/vanity?  I know there was one on Zaandam and Zuiderdam.   I don't remember whether there was one on Koningsdam.

I had lasik surgery almost 15 years ago and, of course, I now need reading glasses for most things.  Having a magnifying mirror in the cabin is great.  Otherwise, I'll have to pack a small mirror and it is sometimes difficult to hold a hand mirror and put on makeup at the same time.  And I can't tell you how many of those "stick on the mirror" magnifying mirrors I've left stuck on hotel and cruise cabin bathroom mirrors! 😄

The answer is yes and no.  The mirror is inside the desk not attached to it on the newer ships I've cruise on lately (n. statendam, n.amsterdam, Eurodam).  It has a magnifying side.

We had a very nice dinner with VMax1700 and Mrs. VMax this evening in Tamarind.  With a great deal to eat.  I had the shrimp tempura and Mongolian lamb chops, Ellen had soup and the lamb, Colin had shrimp tempura and the duck, and Pat had soup and duck.  I think the only thing I hadn’t taken a picture of was the lamb.  It was excellent, and then Pika brought us a big bowl of the Penang curry to share as well.  Talk about stuffed!

We went back to the room after, to find this

And then there was a call reminding us to be at the reception.  So tomorrow will be a busy sea day!  Breakfast in the MDR at 8 with Tony and Martha, an appointment with the FCC at 10, then the reception at 10:30, the premium wine tasting at 2, and a gala dinner in the evening.

Congratulations on your new medallions 👏 👍. Raising a glass in a 🥂 to you both 🙂   Hope you do the same and have a toast to yourselves 🙂

Regarding the '50% Off Happy Hour' it will make no difference if you have the SBP.  I had naively hoped that I could order a $20 drink and as 50% off would make it now priced under the $11 limit, but no such luck! 😢

A valiant attempt by you.  Thanks for taking one for the team 😉

A little bit of breakfast food porn - we set our clocks back last night, so I needed my coffee early and  went up to the Lido .  Syahrial (he says call him cereal) brought my coffee and I explained we were going to the MDR for breakfast at 8 and just wanted coffee to take my pills.  He told me to be sure to order the yogurt with mango and passion fruit.  When Pat appeared for a cup of tea, S. brought pastries, because he said we would not get them in the dining room.  So we went down to the dining room already fed, but I did as I was told and ordered the yogurt, which was good, then I had a kipper and a huge pile of scrambled eggs.  And S. was correct, no pastries.  I seem to remember them coming around with baskets of them in the past.  I don’t know if it’s COVID, or a new policy.

Anyway, Pat had the classic eggs Benny, Tony had the corned beef hash, and Martha had the Indian breakfast.  All were rated good!

we had a quick appointment with the FCC, and bought some FCDs, and she showed me how to get out of the German HAL site, which seems to be what I get on the ship.  Then we went up to the Gallery Bar for the Mariner reception, which was a non-event.  A mimosa, a quick picture taken with the Captain, and it was over.  The next thing will be the premium wine tasting, and we may possibly skip the Gala dinner in favour of the Lido.  I don’t think Pat wants to dress up, and we will have had all the wine we need for the day.

pictures won’t load, I’ll try later.

Captain has just announced at noon that we will be docking on the 18th at Trieste, which we knew days ago, thanks to @Mary Seas!  Arrival will be at 4 a.m., and they will take care of getting everyone to their flights, even those not on HAL transfers.  All shore excursions are cancelled.

Here is the letter that we received as we disembark on 18th.

I am not very happy as, apart from not arriving into Marghera as scheduled, it now looks as if the luggage will need to be manhandled (personhandled?) from one bus to another.

Looks like you are expected to dress up again on Friday for Pinnacle Gala.  I don't blame you for not wanting to do it two nights in a row.

p.s. no need for Pat to wear the Tuxedo on Saturday night!  We will be casually dressed!

😁

So sorry to hear that Trieste is confirmed 😔 Good thing you are staying on for the next segment.  I feel for @VMax1700and the others who are disembarking.

Good to hear they are assisting with transfers to flights.

Actually it looks like they are just getting @VMax1700 to the Venice cruise terminal, hopefully they will organize things a bit better, I think they are staying on in the Venice area for a bit.

it is going to be an inconvenience for a lot of people.  I can understand a bit better now why the Captain was silent and distant at the reception.  I imagine there will be repercussions!
