Looking at sailing on celebrity eclipse in April 2022 from Vancouver to Hawaii . Would like any input from previous sailers . Was there things to do to keep you busy sea days ? Was the size of ship give you plenty room during this time so didn't feel crowded ?

We did this on Solstice in 2016 and it is one of my favorite cruises. We had lots to do on sea days. Celebrity kept us busy with Guest speakers,  hula dancer did dance classes, ukulele classes, etc. We booked cruise excursions and they were excellent.

We did this cruise a few years ago and had a great time.  We love sea days.  Our favorite!  By the time we sleep in, eat breakfast, go to Cafe al Bacio for another coffee, work out, shower, catch up on email or read for a bit, it’s time for lunch!

We enjoyed the presentations from experts a lot.  Attended all of them.  We enjoyed the pool and the activities there.  There were always games of some kind, like Trivia.  Things like the kitchen tour, wine tastings, I think I remember Bingo.  I just remember that we filled each day with no problem, though we both enjoy our kindles, and the chance to read and watch the ocean go by.  You won’t know till you try it!

forgot to respond that I have no memories of it being crowded any more so than usual.  On good weather days lots of passengers are enjoying the outside.  The only time we ever experience some crowds is when it’s pouring outside and the whole ship is inside.

We did this exact cruise in April 2019 and loved it!  One of our very favorites and would consider it again.  We too were concerned of all the sea days but they seemed to fly by with plenty to do.  We flew into Vancouver several days ahead so filled every moment sight seeing.  Boarding the ship, nice to have just relaxing time and also time to just enjoy the ship, but plenty to keep us busy ….. honestly never felt bored.  There were so many different venues and things to do never felt crowded.  The first few days were a bit on the cooler side, cut the closer to Hawaii the warmer it got.  Once we got to Hawaii it was go, go, go again so really appreciated the sea days and the chance to just really enjoy the ship before.  Any questions or if can be of any help …. ask away.  But go for it …. Was a great cruise!

We are looking at this cruise also.  It is very much cheaper than the return to Vancouver on May 4, 2022.  There is always lots to do on sea days.  In fact sometimes there are two things offered at the same time and I want to go to both of them.  We have done this cruise or the reverse about 4 or 5 times.  It can be a bit cold for the first few days out from Vancouver, so I would pack something warm to wear on deck.  Enjoy.

We did this cruise on the Eclipse late September 2019.  I was concerned about the sea days, but not a problem.  Yes first few days were cool. Lots to do on board.  Wife did hula class and a flash mob, also attended some of the lectures and what not.  Met tons of wonderful people from all around the world.  Never felt crowded.

We brought our son who was 11 at the time, not a lot of kids at the kids club but he had a blast.  Loved this cruise so much we are doing it in reverse May 2022.  Very relaxing time.

We did that cruise on Eclipse in 2018, and absolutely loved it!  I'm someone who loves at sea days, and we made sure we had a balcony cabin, so we had a spot to get away if we wanted to.

As it was, all those sea days were so well catered for!  As we sailed, we had Cecilia, an expert on the birds and mammals etc, who had large audiences in the theatre as she gave us detailed information including beautiful photography, and other brilliant lectures.

Marvellous music around the ship during the day, and lots of interesting stuff happening everywhere.  I would do that cruise again - or maybe reversed.

We're scheduled for the Eclipse cruise to Hawaii on April 23 and my concern is entering Canada from the US and departing on the cruise from Vancouver. We're over 60, vaccinated and getting the booster shot next week. Will the vaccination card we were given at the pharmacy be the only proof we need to travel into Canada? Does Celebrity or anyone reading this post know the answer to this?

Hello Sparky52t,

Did a quick google search on entering canada vaccine requirements and the links below may provide information you want.

https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/covid-vaccinated-travellers-entering-canada

https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/coronavirus-disease-covid-19/arrivecan.html

If they don't, you might have a better chance at getting an answer by posting your question in the West Coast Departures forum:

https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/315-west-coast-departures/

or starting a new thread with a subject heading more directly related to your question using the Start New Topic tab at the top of the Celebrity Forum.

We are also on the April 23, 2022 Vancouver to Hawaii cruise.  Canada currently requires a negative covid-19 test taken within 72 hours (I think the time frame is 72 hours but someone please correct me if my memory is failing me) of the scheduled flight entering Canada.  Since the situation is so fluid I haven't been following as closely as I will in the future, but I expect we will be providing negative test results.

for OP:

We did the Hawaii to Vancouver cruise, in May 2017 on Solstice. We really enjoyed the cruise, the Hawaiian ports and fabulous excursions on the islands.

For the 5 day crossing of the North Pacific however, the weather was not so kind to us. We encountered rain and wind for most of the crossing, resulting in waves from 13 to 15 feet. ( A bit rocky for us, and outdoor time not so enjoyable, not even on our balcony). This said, we found plenty of things to do inside, including, an Inside the ship tour, wine tastings, shows, casino, trivia, silent disco, nice meals and snacks etc. So we really had no time to get bored.

for Northern Aurora:

The situation is still very fluid in Canada. It would be wise to check the website ArriveCan now and again one week or two prior to your departure.

As we speak, only fully vaccinated travellers ( may be few exceptions) are accepted in Canada. The web site defines who is considered « fully vaccinated » and likely the type of accepted proof.

To my knowledge, the PCR Covid test is still needed 72 hours prior to fly in Canada (some exceptions, may apply). Then once you land at a Canadian Airport, as a result of the new Omicron variant, I just learned that our government will greet passengers (Canadians and non Canadians) with another Covid test ( free of charge). However, people will be required to self isolate until reception of the negative result. The question is, how long will it take to get the results of this last test? Another question is, how would the self isolation requirement impact a passenger landing in CYVR just to board the ship?)

The grapevine rumour, is that in some cases, it took up to 5 days.... Now, this process is really new and still in the implantation phase, so, delays for the results will likely improve, once the program is up and running.... But, all of this could change drastically between now and April!

International travel always involved a certain complexity relating to formalities associated with passports and visas. Varied international Covid requirements and formalities sure add quite a bit of challenge....

Good luck though, and once all formalities are done, enjoy the cruise! It’s a beautiful one!

Just a precision to my message above, the new airport Covid test in Canada, will apply to passengers arriving from everywhere around the world, except the U.S.

We just booked this cruise on Tuesday on the Cyber Monday sale.

Sparky, will you be flying into Vancouver or maybe driving up from Seattle?  Our land border has just opened and we needed nothing, yesterday and today going south, but our Nexis cards.  We were very surprised.  On arrival back to Canada we had to have the completed ArriveCan which has all our info incl vaccination records.

You will need the PCR.

I hope we see you on board.

I took my boyfriend on this cruise in September of 2019. It was his first cruise and he LOVED it. Now he only wants to do cruises with lots of sea days, which is fine by me. We did not have a single dull moment aboard, and enjoyed taking hula class, catching up on napping and reading, going to various lectures including one about the propulsion system by someone in the Engineering Department, lounging in the spa, sitting by the pool...it was really great. There were always people out and about if you wanted to socialize -- the Martini Bar was always hopping -- and of course we went to see the shows and caught a couple of movies. About the only thing we didn't do was go for late-night dancing so I can't report on what that was like.

Do it! Have fun!

We’ve done this cruise on Solstice in 2016 from Hawaii to Vancouver. Then we did it in 2019 on Eclipse from Vancouver to Hawaii. We enjoyed both. If we were to do it again (very likely) we’d do Vancouver to Hawaii again (weather was much better). The glass blowing class was fabulous, the speakers were marvelous, (the casino was loose!!!). We had a fabulous, restful 5.days at sea.

We have done the Hawaii cruise a couple times in both directions as well as Honolulu to Sydney with many more sea days.

Celebrity offers unlimited things to keep their guest entertained.  Some of them are kinda of funny but can be entailing -  e.g.   Paper Airplane Competition and the Raw Egg Drop Competition.

We enjoy sea days and always find ways to entertain ourselves and rarely participate in the ships activities.   We have never been bored.     I have talked to some that need something to do constantly and they said they were bored at times.   I guess it is your desire for being entertained and entertaining yourself.

On many of the cruises they have great Beyond the Podium and can often be packed.    The subject matter is quite variable but each has been entertaining for 50 minutes.

The paper airplane and egg drop competitions were actually interesting because it involved people nerding out solving problems. Yeah, it's kinda of middle-school-science-fair-like, but it was interesting to us!

You have to love sea days to do this cruise.  I love to be able to do nothing all day long at the solarium and then repeat.  If you need constant entertainment and always on the move looking for different new things to do then this might not be a the right fit.  Think of it this way, do you like more port days or sea days?  If you like a new port everyday like a Mediterranean cruise then this will be very low key compared to that.

Totally agree re loving sea days.  We love them, so relaxing and gives us reason to spend  days in our suite, which we love.  Booked an awesome 52 day cruise in 2023, 30 of which are sea days.  Amazing itinerary but the sea days for us are as equally important.
