Just straightforward factual reporting! Of course the crew escorting positive passengers are simply doing their job whilst taking precautions as best they can that they don't get infected doing the transfer. Very sensible of the management to do things that way, even if it is horrifying for the affected passengers. But exaggeration is not the same as sensationalism!

That is kind of what hit squad implies. Not at gunpoint. But have seen a Cunard “Hit Squad” in full action, with the removal of drunken “pest” from the vicinity of a couple of young frightened women, when the “pest” declined to go back to his stateroom peacefully. Just one’s opinion. Hopefully it was just the shock of the test result but the emotive language isn't helping, is her complaint that the staff are wearing PPE ? Again I wonder what she expected ...

In thinking deeper, the actions taken could have been because Claire may have seriously declined a polite Cunard invitation to comply with a request (order) from the Captain. Patria21 Posted December 28, 2021 #261 Share Posted December 28, 2021 For what it’s worth, while Claire Thorborn was once a journalist, she hasn’t been since 2006 when she went to Impact, a public relations firm she created. That doesn’t mean she’s lying or even exaggerating; I have no way of knowing. But I do know that working at her own PR firm allows her greater freedom to use social media - and frees her from the strictest accuracy restraints - compared to the standards I would have been held to at my newspaper. And yes: there are good PR people and bad journalists, that’s not the point. The point is that referring to journalism standards or lack thereof won’t get you anywhere in evaluating her post. It cannot be done. There's probably more Covid floating around in your local Tesco than QM2 this very moment. And frankly given the "symptoms" (or not in many many cases), it's like eliminating the common cold. In more senses than one it appears. I have had Norwalk virus on CANBERRA, BLACK PRINCE and CARONIA... trust me, the effects of this are never "asymptomatic"! You don't need a "test" to tell you are sick. And there's no real way to get rid of it... it runs its course in people and ships. And yes can be easily avoided with meticulous individual precautions. People used to laugh at us for bringing and using hand sanitizer wipes aboard ship... now they ask, "where did you get those." We all strive to be "safe" and never have harm done to us. But in this or anything else, good luck with that. You do, they do, the best we and they can and life goes on. It really does. If you want to go out and live it. I agree but let's face it, frogmarched out of Tesco doesn't have quite the same impact as frogmarched on a cruise ship. I was a cruise ship sanitizer wipes laugher, who laughed at those passengers sanitizing cabins as an extra precaution. I might not go as far as sanitizing my cabin but my hands might come in for a spot of personal 70% alcohol attention. Probably better my hands than in a glass of something very strong. 🙂 I might just pack some next year.

Your friend were probably told by Cunard that "everything was fine." But the sad part is that people do lie, they lie about all sorts of thing. Annabel50 Posted December 28, 2021 Author #274 Share Posted December 28, 2021 It is regrettable that anyone has found themselves in this situation, but good to see that Cunard are separating infected passengers from others to protect any further rise infection, they are doing there job, anyone cruising over the past few months should appreciate this is a real possibility, hence we have cancelled our 14th Jan Caribbean voyage, the risk is too high, some will not see it that way which is their own choice.
mcloaked Posted December 28, 2021 #275 Share Posted December 28, 2021 We have moved two cruises for early 2022 because of worries about ship board outbreaks and the consequences. We are waiting to see if we can be re-assured for the spring and then deciding if we need to transfer a spring one to later, or not. Let's hope there is some better news coming from the ships before too long.
