We are on the fence about cruising!  We have to make that decision this week!  We are due to fly out on the 18th for our Reflection cruise on the 19th.  We haven't cancelled yet.  My husband wants to cancel, but I am holding out.  He is afraid of the casino being closed, ports being closed, activities being scarce, possibility of being isolated, wasting all that money.......etc.  But my glass is half full, thinking of very few passengers, really good food, getting out of town......  Guess we will make a decision in a few days......

For all those reasons, we canceled our trip on the Edge yesterday, I’m depressed but know it was the right thing…😢

We would have done the exact same thing as the OP as unhappy as it would have made us.  And we know there will be another opportunity when we feel it’s a better time, which hopefully will be soon!   Hopefully the OP will be aboard a Celebrity ship sooner than later!

Plan a fun land vacation.  That is what we are now doing.

I should not be typing this. I should be in seat 11D on a United flight heading to Fort Lauderdale excited to board the Equinox tomorrow after cancelling 3 previous cruises. Instead, I'm at home sitting in front of my PC. I know the decision to cancel was completely ours.....but it is still very depressing!!!!!

it sounds like you absolutely made the right decision for yourself, I can imagine it's still a very, very big let down.   Were yo able to find a cruise to switch to?  Maybe that would be a little "lift", to start planning the replacement trip 🙂.  best wishes to you, & I hope you find a fantastic next cruise to go on!

Doing the same. We canceled the April 22 cruise and will be heading to your area for a coastal drive and history tour. We have been to most places prior, but want to see things we may have missed.

At least we will have control over our lives and do our best to stay healthy.

txtechmk... We cancelled our 1/4 Silhouette cruise for exactly the reasons your DH has sited plus the airline cancellations.  We went to Alaska on one of the first 2021 cruises and it was so wonderful with less than half occupancy.  Definitely spoiled us forever... but there wasn't really much worry about getting quarantined at that point if you were fully vaxxed.  Seems to be a very different situation now.

The posts about those testing positive toward the end of their cruise and having to go to a hotel for several days... or those quarantined earlier in the cruise going to inside cabins, just make me crazy.

I feel a bit differently about our May cruise up the west coast.  Worst case, it would be a tolerable drive back to San Diego if we couldn't fly.  So, it's certainly a personal decision... but not worth it to us to take that chance.

If your gut tells you to cancel, it means there is a very good reason.  Some of us are risk-takers, along with many who just want to get on a cruise ship no matter what and are will to accept the possible consequences, until they happen.  I think it is much harder to cancel than to go, but that is a personal decision.  Life is not totally a crap-shoot, but sometimes you just feel like going for it...seize the day!  Whatever you decide, please do not beat yourself up for that decision.  Move on, smell the roses and be happy, as happiness is a choice!  The days on a cruise ship go by so quickly that it is over almost before it began.  Life is full of choices, so just be glad that you had the opportunity to choose...another cruise is just around the corner with you on it!

Hopefully, we all make decisions with our eyes wide open. I’m sure we will agree, that is the only way to take full responsibility for our actions. The OP’s decision to cancel the cruise is not unique and like many others of us who deemed that choice appropriate, our judgement will be validated because it worked for us.

We were due to board the Equinox tomorrow, 1/9. We canceled on Monday, 1/3. Too many variables for us and the uncertainty of the cruise we actually take, indeed not being the cruise we wanted to take. Twelve nights of disquietude does not work for us and that very much includes the entire cruising process and what is happening with fellow passengers and crew.

To Loracpin2 I say, yes, the disappointment in walking away from yet another planned cruise is quite palpable. There is a feeling of getting so close and then in the blink of an eye it’s no longer there. Take solace in the fact that it was your decision and although it may be disheartening, it works for you now. That’s why it was the right decision.

Would have also enjoyed meeting you on the Equinox tomorrow. Although we didn't have a large roll, quite a few also cancelled.

We are with you. We were also to be in Fort Lauderdale right now and on board tomorrow for our B2B. We waffled back and forth for an entire week before canceling The Sunday after NY. Then we came across the CC post of Parkerson and that cemented our decision. While many going tomorrow did not cancel, we wish them all safe travels and we have lots of emotions from not going, but for doing what was best for us. There will be another cruise, another time, hopefully without all this uncertainty.

DW and I recently returned from a cruise. We are fully vaccinated and boostered and wore masks as recommended. Omicron was not a concern when we left. The cruise itself was wonderful, then we spent a few days in Florida before flying home. I tested positive for COVID the day after arriving home. My symptoms were mild. I have recovered and tested negative yesterday. I am wondering with some regret just how many people I infected. This was probably too soon for such travel. I would be hard pressed to criticize anyone for cancelling a cruise with the COVID numbers we see today.

I’m depressed things are still so rough.  Trust that you’ll have a great cruise in the future.

I am looking forward to later in the Spring when we can welcome folks for their Alaska Cruises.  We had a generally safe and healthy season i 2021, partly due to the strict protocols from the State of WA, the Port of Seattle, the warmer weather and fortunate timing with the virus' Delta wave.

Folks who cruised this past summer lucked out with the timing.  Currently, folks who cruised from Christmas, and (looking forward) thru the end of January have to contend with the height of the Omicron variant surge.  I truly hope it subsides soon so we can get back to the new normal.

Stay safe my Friends.  Hoping that this upcoming Alaska season will be a healthy repeat - See you in Seattle!

We also just cancelled our upcoming cruise on the Reflection - too scary and stressful for us - and didn't seem like fun anymore given all the restrictiions/changes/possibility of illness etc....but to 'allay' some of the depression I have already booked a 'replacement' cruise at the end of March - in hopes that things will have settled down by then?

If not guess we will reschedule to next winter...  (and in any case I do have a transatlantic to look forward to in November!)
