I THINK WE ARE CANCELING OUR CRUISE!!

The decision to go or not is based on several factors. Not the least of which is getting the virus and it’s unknown long term effects. Shortness of staff, less entertainment, being quarantined. Difficulties in foreign ports. Not getting home in a timely manner. Are all legitimate concerns.

We are booked Anthem Jan. 31, but will probably cancel because of Covid.  It just doesn't feel safe to go. Anyone else ,canceling?

We just cancelled our Anthem sailing on March 6. My feeling is that we have been ultra careful for close to 2 years with very limited contact with others. Going into a ship with thousands of people with our immune systems probably lazy at this point would put as at risk for lots of different infections. The CDC said yesterday that every ship sailing in US waters presently has Covid. Though fully vaccinated and boostered,  I don’t want to chance it.  So yesterday we sadly cancelled.

The loyalty ambassador on liberty said liberty is the most healthy rcl ship right now. For me this is reassuring.

People only list what could be missed if they cruise.

I'd lose nonrefundable hotel in Galveston not cheap. Parking canc is $25 per leg. Low price cruisefare and double pts cant be replaced. Getting a crystal block. Other things, being feed for a week.

I agree if you are worried cancel .. better than being upset if things go sideways. I also only booked drive to cruises this year until covid is over and can drive home and isolate. I want to book some different cruises but not yet when ports may be missed.

I just cancelled my Feb. cruise also on Anthem.  We are still booked on her for April and then on Voyager in October.

Cancelled b2b Jewel (losing 4x points in solo cabin). Two days later cruise line cancelled it anyway. (Mostly recovered now from Covid/Odyssey Dec 12-18) The numbers of people getting sick from the ship are higher than people think. Think about it, why would they cancel all these cruises if the reported numbers were true? Remember, it is safer on the ship than land (sarcasm on).

If we could drive from Ohio to San Juan, I would have no issues, but as others have said, getting a positive test and being stuck in a San Juan covid hotel while watching the ship sail away, or getting stuck in the covid hotel until they decide to let you go after the cruise is a bit concerning.  Not worried in the least bit about actually getting covid.

.Are you at the port yet? There are reports there is one long line there now, but the line seems to be moving now. Line is outside the building, so wear a warm coat

We arrived around 1vpm and stood outside for about 1 hr.  Once in terminal check in was about 15 mins.  Definitely chilly out there with periods of light rain but we had on warm coars, scarves, gloves, etc.

Warmed up with some kumelweck sandwiches at cafe 270.   Now alcohol at schooners bar.

Exactly!  I am a nurse and am well aware of the risks - which are no greater than me being at work. That's why I'll be driving to the port instead of flying to Barbados and getting on a ship.

I cancelled one of my B2B on Odyssey for early April as I did not want to deal with testing in between.

I moved my dollars to a great cruise for 7 days out of Copenhagen on the Voyager OFS.

Has an interesting itinerary doing 2 stops in Denmark and 2 stops in Norway (Oslo) overnight.

A lot of cruises bypass Oslo so this is a unique 7-day cruise.  Still doing 6 days on Odyssey on april 3rd.

With Puerto Rico requiring a negative test for those planning a post cruise stay within 24 hours of debarking (RC will provide) , we will cancel as having our 2 13 year old twins with us we can’t risk a positive test and quarantine. They’re already missing a week of school for the cruise and post stay. We’ll just go forward with our trip to PR as we don’t have to test to come home. 2 weeks in PR suits me fine, we’ll cruise again when we’re able to enjoy the things we cruise for.

With a finite amount of vacation time our main concern is the cruise experience.  We were on Serenade this summer in Alaska and it was a great experience.  No issue at all with testing and masking where it was required.  But we were entirely in the US and did not have to worry about testing upon return and visiting the scheduled ports.  We have a BTB on Odyssey scheduled Jan. 29 and Feb. 6 and have concerns about the right experience.  Will we have to mask while in the gym?  That is a non-starter for us.  I'm not thrilled about masking in the show venues, casino or other fully vaccinated venues (although I am happy about the no smoking policy).  Will we be able to go to all scheduled ports (especially Aruba and Curacao)?  Also a big concern.  One of us is more worried about catching Covid on board than the other (one of us recently had Covid and it was less than a cold), but if one of us did get Covid then the thought of staying in a cabin for days would ruin the trip.  So we will most likely cancel and hope to use our credit later this year when the experience will hopefully more closely match what we had on Serenade this summer.  But if we do cancel we are going somewhere warm as travel in and of itself is not a concern of ours.

If I was driving (Galveston) and had something booked I'd probably go.  If I get stuck in a quarantine cabin, so be it.  I would bring a big stack of books and my laptop.

If I was flying, I'd probably cancel it.

I know covid is going crazy around here...  kids friends in school are dropping like flies.  The scary ones are the symptomatic ones that parents won't let them get tested so they don't have to stay home 😞 I'm assuming were going to end up with it sooner rather than later.

You have to ask yourself if all the things your worried about come true are you going to wish you canceled,  if so cancel because I'd guess atleast half of them will

Just goes to prove some people never learn, but good luck to you, hope it goes well for you this time. I mean really what are the chances(odds) of you having issues again like you had in Ecuador in Lima?

On the upside they are clearly not huddling in fear.  Living life is awesome.  They appear to be maximizing it rather than hiding from it.

Not sure I am nearly that brave.

Working in a hospital it was a near miracle I never caught it until we went on that expedition in the Galapagos, and caught it on the expedition ship despite all vaxxed on ship and all negative for covid at boarding and only 88 pax and 95% mask usage on board when indoors.

I play the numbers, and the chances if me and my son getting infected again in one month is pretty low,  but it is a possibility and a risk we are willing to take.  My daughter and wife could get it but as they were negative last time, but what are the odds of them getting it now if they didnt get it from me or my son? Or maybe they got it and they had a false negative test?   Either way, Definitely a possibility they get Covid and something we are prepared for if it happens, but again odds seem low.

In all honesty,  the main reason this trip may get cancelled at this point is due to Cuzco.  When we stayed in Quito my wife despite Diamox did not tolerate the altitude well at all, and we are still discussing if thats something she wants to go through again right now.   If not, we may go for a Harmony Feb 13th sailing.   Can at least drive back to KY if positive on the ship.

Yeah Cuzco is really high altitude.  I remember skiing from some mountain tops in Colorado at about that height.  Altitude is something that really needs time for some people.  It is really easy to get too high to quick.  Have seen some very strange reactions to the mountains in my life.

My personal embarrassing story, was about 20 years ago, a buddy and I went out to Winter Park Colorado over Easter Weekend.  I had an uncle with a condo there, who we were going to stay and ski with.  Got to WP after driving to Eastern Colorado the day prior and staying at a Motel 6 before getting up early and getting to WP around lunch time. Decided to do a half day.  Did it and had a great spring afternoon skiing, afterwards we fixed aunt and uncle some fuzzy navel drinks before heading off to the hot tub.  After about 20 minutes in the too hot hot tub, my buddy felt a bit light headed, I felt great, but agreed we should go to the locker room and get dressed and head back to the condo.  Got up the stairs and he collapsed, helping him to the bench.  I got light headed, and decided to strip and get in the shower, in the shower felt like stabbing rain drops, so staggered out to my locker.  Remember sitting down naked, but with a towel around my waste.  The next thing I remember was having a lovely dream but my nose was hurting.  I had passed out from the bench on to the floor with my naked a$$ up in the air, and waking up to a 20 something snowboarder asking me if I was ok.  I think I remember … “Dude are you OK?”  This is in Frazier Valley in Colorado, I am guessing the altitude (without looking it up was less than 8000 feet, I think Cuzco is around 10+)

Oh wow, That is a great story. LOL

Yeah, Quito is 9000+, Cuzco is 11100 so even higher than Quito.  We'll see what we decide in the end.  Altitude sickness definitely isn't fun, that's for sure.
