Chocolate and Ice

Good Day Fellow Cruisers.  Have not been on RC for over 8 years.  Prior to that had gone on 3 RC cruises.

We used to love the midnight chocolate parties and ice sculpture parties.

Does RC still do that?  We're sailing on the Oasis in a few weeks and quite excited.

Late night dining options are pretty much limited to Sorrento's and Promenade Cafe.

When I was on a cruise a while back after the midnight buffet & chocolate buffet were cancelled, I asked why they didn't have them anymore.  The person that I asked said that there wasn't as much demand for them anymore because there was so much more to do, especially on the bigger ships.

It always amazed me how they kept those going for as long as they did.  I couldn't believe the amount of food being shown and hardly any people taking any.

They took a good look at the size of most passengers

 

And decided they didn't need to be sitting around eating chocolate at 12AM

I remember seeing passengers load up plates super high and just leave them all over the place. We once showed up 10 minutes after it opened and it was gone.

They did a nice one on the 50th Birthday cruise in 2019.

 

It was total carnage in 20 minutes

They still do the same thing in the WJ....I liked it when it was no self serve after start up due to Covid restrictions.  Normal portions served to pax, and always could go back for more if they were still hungry.  

 

Really people...do you really think you have to "eat your money's worth"...geeez what a waste....not to mention..."waist".  😮

Thanks everyone for your replies.  Wow, lot of comments regarding obesity and over-eating.  My family is pretty fit and eat clean and balanced.  I just remember the festive environment with the pretty exotic and impressive chocolate and ice sculptures and was looking forward to having my kids see that.

To be honest, didn't really remember any gluttonous folks but clearly I have a selective memory and likely  just remember the good parts.  (Last RCL cruise was 2012?).

Island Lady above mentions that they do something like in WindJammer.  That would be nice to see if they still do that.

Yes, do check out the WJ for the art work they will have at the entrance.  Some creative carvings, mostly at night.  The crew member reminding everyone to wash/sanitize their hands..... are always comical as well, and love to interact with the kids.
