Male, solo.

ship= Solstice in balcony.

I have already booked the Vancouver to Hawaii (9days) and Hawaii to Australia (17days) portions.

probably going to book the Australia to Singapore leg.

The question is Beijing.

I'm a US citizen.

i want to visit all those far east 3rd world countries but I really dont know if i want Beijing in this current political climate.

I would fly from Beijing back to VA (Dulles airport).

Keep Beijing leg, or get off at Singapore and fly/hotels for the far east countries like Thailand and Vietnam?

The Great Wall is a wonderful experience to walk. With that said - that’s it for China. We did not like Bejing. I would spend most of your time in Singapore definitely and Halong Bay. Of course, it all depends what you like to see.

Beijing will never be better than it is now.  It will get bigger, smoggier…. The Great Wall is a travesty, like Dollywood.  I was there in 1983, when western tourists were unusual.  When we went to the Great Wall it was deserted.  Bus parked right by the wall, one tourist place, no restaurants.  Other tourists were Chinese or Japanese.  Ten years later, 1993, totally different.  Beijing seemed to have doubled.  Traffic a mess.  At the Great Wall you parked a quarter mile away, had to pass through a gauntlet of stalls to get to the road.  The area reminded me much of a renaissance festival, with re-enactors everywhere, Chinese gongs ringing, soldiers in Genghis Khan rig on the walls, guns firing.  And mobs of people.  That was 20 years ago.  I can’t imagine how much worse it is now.  Do it now.  EM

We loved Singapore, well worth a few days stay.

Have you thought of a river cruise for Vietnam? We loved Vietnam but our brief visit was not long enough. Seeing it in more depth on a river cruise is something still on our bucket list…

Many tour companies offer split stay visits for Thailand  so you would have no problem flying into Bangkok then moving on after a couple of days to a more tranquil area.  Thailand was wonderful when we first visited back in 1992 but was much more commercialised when we returned some years later. If you have time limitations perhaps you may prefer a longer stay in Vietnam?

We toured China some years ago. We did enjoy seeing the forbidden city, the Summer Palace and of course the Great Wall whilst staying in Beijing but found the rest of China far more beautiful and interesting. Only you can decide how comfortable you are visiting at present.

We did the Hawaii to Sydney part of your trip when I retired. Our favourite cruise ever…

However you decide to divide your time sincere best wishes for what will be a real holiday of a lifetime.

Do you plan to fly from Singapore to Beijing?

I don't think Solstice will go to Beijing. The last segment is just Singapore to Hong Kong (3rd - 16th Nov 2023).

yeah, meant Hong Kong.

same difference in political climate.

heck, i think the political climate is worse in Hong Kong with all the crack downs.

and same issue... the Singapore to Hong Kong leg is all the 3rd world far east countries.

Sounds like stopping at Singapore for a few days then stopping a few days in the major cites in Vietnam/Thailand is the way to go?

We went to China for our honeymoon in 1997 as one of the destinations. Beijing, Xian, Guilin & one other stop I think. Glad we’ve done it & wouldn’t ever go back. Loved Hong Kong but that was while still under British lease. Thailand, Singapore & Bali 🎉🎉🎉

My One regret about Celebrity is that they don’t have a world cruise itinerary. That to me would be heaven!

Indeed, yes... I totally understand your concerns.

Right, this is also possible. Or book another cruise ship that will visit other Asian countries near Singapore. Unfortunately there are not too many choices in November. Not sure if the Singapore roundtrip short cruises of Spectrum of the Seas may suit you.
