THC is not allowed on any ships, even those flagged in Holland (HAL), where marijuana and CBD products are legal. Ships are considered a separate case from the general population. Carnival does not have "autonomy" in choosing what to enforce, but it is the "flag state's" laws that would be enforced, not "port states" like the US. The Captain is the legal representative of the flag state onboard, and therefore he can decide to enforce the law or not, but then must assume responsibility if the flag state disagrees with his decision. The most frequent word used by pot smokers is "EAR". They inhale and pass it around to the next person and say, "Ear"🙃. I don't think they hear you😇, Bro. omegagen Posted September 19, 2022 #55 Share Posted September 19, 2022 (edited) For the first time in my 20 cruises I noticed a group of adults passing a joint around above the pool deck on the Liberty, sail date 8/15. I was shocked! Security eventually walked over but by that time the "smoke festivities" were done! Oh well Carnival is getting a little too loose for me! All my perks and past cruises (15) are with RC so despite their usually high fares I'll have to just suck it up! You smelled it in hallways, casino, lido decks etc. last three cruises I have taken this year , the smell of weed throughout the ship is getting worse, reminds me of when I am in Vegas. Diamond member , 40 cruises on Carnival, but it’s getting old, suppose to be against rules but staff is turning their heads . If it continues I will look elsewhere to cruise or take vacations, just retired and had planned to cruise monthly on carnival. Got to love it, if I bring a bottle of soda with me they confiscate it , yet so many passengers bring weed on and no problem. But on the good side no roving teen groups getting into brawls like on my previous two carnival cruises. This more than Covid and Cutbacks will kill the Carnival brand if they are not careful. Get the rep for having the wrong crowd onboard all the time with drugs and brawls and people will just start cruising another line. I was happy to see the 24 people debarked in Nassau for that brawl and the new towels on chairs policy. Hopefully they are realizing they need a change and that there must be some teeth in their policies.

It was in passing so didn’t bother me. But if I was on a balcony and our neighbors were smoking a lot, I could see that being an issue. But I’m not buying that Carnival is any worse than RCI or NCL in terms of weed. And LoL at the “I’m diamond and if fill-in-the-blank doesn’t change, I’ll take my dollars elsewhere”. Pot smoke? Really, Karen? I tend to agree with this, I think it's mostly empty threats from busy bodies who are probably complainers anyway, if they're throwing that kind of tantrum over smelling a little pot smoke. Could be a good thing, maybe the pot smoke acts as some kind of complainer repellent. 😁
quattrohead Posted September 19, 2022 #60 Share Posted September 19, 2022 Yes smelled it several times on Freedom in August, along with fighting teenagers in the hall ways. No security in sight. Also the fag smoke from the casino was getting into the skybox bar, apparently never used to be a problem until recently according to a regular. People used to smoke at the casino bar. Now that the bar is nonsmoking, the smokers hide in the slot machine areas and nobody stops them.
klfrodo Posted September 19, 2022 #62 Share Posted September 19, 2022 While everyone has their valid concerns and opinions re: overindulgence of weed and alcohol consumption (brawls), I feel most of this is a temporary setback from the world being locked down due to the pandemic. The children (Adults) have been set free to spread their wings and they are taking it to the edge. Do any of us condone the rise in unruly behavior? No for the most part. Does Carnival and their security need to step up? Yes. Just like when our mom or dad smacked one of us when we got out of shape, word gets out and the children return to normal. (If there is such a thing as normal) Let's get back to moderation. No matter what your vices.

Yes, people who used to smoke at the bar now just go sit or stand at the slot machines, which they clearly have no intent of playing.

westerdam Posted September 20, 2022 #69 Share Posted September 20, 2022 It was all over on the outside decks usually in the evening's on my Labour Day cruise on the Carnival Radiance 2 weeks ago. I spoke to one lady that was smoking it and asked how she got away with getting it onboard. She replied with basically where there is a will there is a way and she hid it on herself with a smile. I was NOT asking where though!
Socalf1fan Posted September 20, 2022 #70 Share Posted September 20, 2022 Cigar smoker here....the pot smell doesn't really bug me. As long as everyone is cool, I'm cool. Be an adult, be able to hold your #$%^ and don't pester others. Not hard to do, especially with the right kind of weed. I'm not a weed smoker (But yes I did inhale once or twice unlike Mr. Clinton). Hell if you see me on the Vista on this 9/24 cruise smoking a stogie come sit by me. I don't mind if you light up. It's your butt on the line not mine.

There are people in your personal circle that smoke or imbibe, I can assure you. It's really not a big deal as it's been going on for centuries. The media and government have made it a big deal over the last 50 years. I have cruised 12 times on Carnival and have rarely smelled it, but it was never offensive when I did. Trust me, you'd rather have a high person next to you than a drunk person. High people are calm, cool and collected...not a risk to you at all. Not sure what you are concerned about??

Lane Hog Posted September 20, 2022 #75 Share Posted September 20, 2022 Meh. I haven't partoken since Reagan was in office, but this is just more fake outrage over nothing. Pot in a social setting is no worse than tobacco or alcohol. Two of the three are just fine onboard, so why is this such an issue? 19 states have legalized recreational use, and another 10 permit medical use or have decriminalized offenses to that of a parking ticket. I'll not be surprised if a majority of states legalize it for recreational use within the next five to ten years.
