No More Mixed Shots!

That's what to me is so weird about this. It doesn't feel like the shot elimination is a nickle and dime situation, as even if you upgrade to Plus tier drink package you still don't get these options.

Not that it would be great if they gated it into the Plus category, but at least then it would feel more in line with expected behaviors. Pretty sure I saw someone mention even Haven you're not allowed to have them and that's the highest paying customers on the ship

This is part of what I'm worried about on my upcoming cruise. The lack of availability. We're probably upgrading to plus, but it's really going to suck if every plus drink is just not stocked. Like we'll sell you this plus package with the promise of this list of options, then when you get there and ask for things off the list they can just be like sorry, don't have it. Feels bait and switchy.

If you're going to sell a premium experience upgrade, then they need to stock the premium upgrade items.

Our recent Prima sailing Crown was now an extra $1.00 +20% in Haven.  That is pure nickel and dime yet pound foolish.

They also had big fancy ice cubes.  I'm all for that yet a tap cocktail in maybe a 7 oz glass filled with the big cubes and no kick would be $13.  If there was 3 oz of liquid, I'd be surprised.

Well, because you can and by doing so you save money on product and possibly human resources.

You very well may be right.  I hope you aren't right though.  Why do I hope you aren't right?  Because I've never seen nor heard of drunkenness' problems on NCL ships and because if that really is the reason, then their solution is just lazy - rather than educate and support the servers on over serving, eliminate the shots.  Lazy.  And if over serving really is the problem, then it seems they should get rid of all shots, not just mixed.  And, I suspect for the few that do get over served, this won't solve the problem as many of those people will just drink something else.

If I was on a ship right, I do know that I'd be asking the beverage manager for an explanation.

I'd agree with you about the drunk part.  We just sailed and lots of people drinking a lot we only saw one person out of line over 12 days.  Other trips same.

Yes...I have.

Since the Pearl falls under Jovo (Regional VP of Fleet Hotel Operations), I sent him a direct email asking whether this report was accurate.

His reply:

I have verified your query with fleet beverage manager and was told we offer full array of shots as normal.

Not sure who and why said otherwise. GM is on it.

So, like with many things "reported" on CC, I'm going to call BS on this one.

There goes @SeaSharkraining on our parades.  Can't you see we were all enjoying getting our panties in a twist over this?  😉

Of course, it wouldn't be CC if people's panties weren't in a twist.

I'm actually surprised that this topic wasn't started by fstuff1...this is definitely his type of thread.

Just to cherry pick one topic from this thread-  Have you Captain fans tried Sailor Jerry? If not, I recommend you try a Sailor J and Coke ( no Pepsi) and report back.  I’ll wait… 🙂

Not a fan of Sailor Jerry, but I'll take the 94 proof Kraken any day!! Also, on my last cruise, the casino only had Goslings, which also was not bad.

To piggyback off of what @SeaShark said…my friend and I are sailing on Prima in a week, so I wanted to look into this. She’s actually also currently on Getaway, so I asked her. There has been no issue getting mixed shots on her sailing, so…just fyi. She’s probably doing a mixed shot as I type this somewhere off the coast of Bonaire 🤣

But, by all means…continue getting your panties twisted in a bunch 🤷🏼‍♂️

Well, this is a relief.  Not clear why the OP and some others have experienced otherwise.  If it's a ship-by-ship thing (pure speculation: b/c shortages of alcohol on said ship?), then I hope it's not on my upcoming cruises!

Maybe it’s an availability thing?  Crown is definitely not a premium bourbon.  I don’t know where they get their restocking…maybe outside of their home port in the U.S., and that makes Crown more difficult to get?

But, the liquors I’m familiar with were readily available.  And, they had several drinks on the menu that had multiple liquors.

I disembarked the Breakaway on 11/6.  Mostly drank at  Syd Norman’s outdoor bar and the Atrium Bar.  Asked the bartenders at both for some pretty crazy concoctions.  Not once did they give us any pushback.  I saw one English guy drink 3 straight Long Island Iced Teas (which has multiple different shots). He was wobbly and excused himself to go to the bathroom.  Didn’t see him until two days later.  LOL!

I never asked for Crown or an Appletini, however!

I want to clarify this .Are you saying I can't get a rum and coke or a mimosa or a pina colada? If so I am an ex-NCL cruiser.

Nope, you're good.  No need to bail from NCL just yet....not for this at least.

Those are cocktails, not shots. Those are fine.

And apparently even shots are fine, so a lot of hoopla over *hopefully* nothing at all.

Ok, thank you. I can take a step back from the balcony rail now. Despite my vast experience all these years I guess I got confused over mixed shots vs. mixed drinks. Must have been a panic attack! 🍺

Given the subject matter, I think many of us are right there with you on the panic attack. Anybody can sleep in a room the size of a cruise cabin … so long as there is a healthy supply of booze.

Someone showed me kindness as a new cruiser who is disappointed with the information that has been communicated from the supposed professionals of the cruise line.  I responded to the comment.  I thought cruise people were supposed to be friendly...

Cruise newbie.  Leaving in 10 days.  I know that arrival and departure times are estimates.  That said we are supposed to arrive in Tortola at 6AM and depart at 1 PM.  I am reading that you can typically get off the ship in about 30 minutes.  I am also reading that we need to be back 30 minutes before the ship leaves.  So that further reduces our time and frankly 6 AM is kind of early even for this early bird. Is it typical for passengers to choose not to get off the ship at a port?  Does the ship have things to do for the people who stay on?  I am thinking that maybe people who have mobility issues may choose to not get off at every port.  This may not be the correct Board for this.  Does anyone have suggestions for something that we absolutely must do in Tortola?  Ben is a big fan of sleep.  😆

Disagree with you. The ban is not hoopla over nothing at all. I’m sure I can speak for many cruisers who enjoyed having at times weird mixed shots at the Vibe or Haven bar. It was an experience that you really couldn’t replicate at home. It was fun and a real ice breaker. I will miss it.
