Hi @Jamman54🙂

My wife & I are still feeling the burning sting from the Mardi Gras.

Heavy sigh......😔

hopefully one day in the future the mardi gras or its sisters will sail out of New York again. I too was very disappointed when those cruises got canceled

We were lucky enough to have booked the Mardi Gras for what ended up being her second sailing (8/21). It was definitely touch/go there for a bit!

In the future, if there's a new build I want to be on early, I'll make sure to plunk down refundable deposits on the first couple months of cruises - just to hedge my bets! I'm glad that Ticketmaster isn't able to grab up all the rooms !!!

We were booked on the inaugural... Had my PVP on the phone within moments of the dates being announced, specifically to be on that sailing. I get that things happen and stuff gets delayed, but the ship is sold out for months -- and now we can't get on the inaugural, which is apparently going to be December 23rd. That is so wrong... They should be bumping people in order of who booked last, to reschedule people who booked to be on that first sailing. 🙁

I agree! 🤣 I was really looking forward to the inaugural cruise. The 23rd is sold out. Ended up rebooking for NYE.

Well this stinks.

Delivery delayed to Dec. 2023.  First six cruises cancelled (TA + first 5 Western Caribbean), will now sail directly from Germany to Galveston w/o PAX, maiden voyage will be a regular 7-day Caribbean from Galveston departing Dec. 23.

Maiden voyage plus sailing over Christmas holiday. Cha-ching. 💰

That sailing is fully $900 more than what we were booked at for the inaugural, so not doing that one. I don't care what the cheerleaders all say -- I call BS on the whole thing. Even if they think there might be some supply issue between now and then, a YEAR is long enough to either come up with a work-around or make the time up some other way. I get that booked customers need lead time to make changes to their own plans, but a year? C'mon.

Apparently, you aren't familiar with what is involved with managing a gargantuan project like building a cruise ship.  Most steps have to occur in a particular order.  There aren't "work arounds".

For example, say you were building a house.  You discover that there is a big concrete shortage, and as a result, you can't pour the foundation until several months later than you wanted.  What's the workaround? You literally can't work on the rest of the house until the foundation is poured.

Believe me, no one is more upset about this than Carnival.  They are losing millions and millions of dollars in revenue, not to mention having to dole out FCC and dealing with angry cruisers.  They wouldn't have delayed the launch unless it was the only option.

Same here.  Had a great casino offer.  Guess we'll just forget about booking another date.  Only going to get $50 FCC,  no way does that balance out to increased pricing and being offered a junior balcony instead of a regular one!

They most likely knew then that it would never make those dates but sold the rooms

I don’t know that assuming bad intentions here is the best way to frame this, especially as many ships have been delayed in the past several years. You do have a good point, though, in that they probably should have had a more realistic timetable with this delivery given the global supply and staffing issues and put these dates off a bit. I’m sure carnival corporate isn’t hAppy about having upset customers or having to offer any sort of FCC , either.

I was on the TA cruise and had a ton of OBC and deposits that have been moved multiple times since my BTB European cruises in August ‘ 20 were cancelled.  After the initial shock of the email wore off I started looking at other options and ended up rebooking on the Pride for a 12-day Ireland/Scotland/Iceland itinerary.  My PVP is great-she moved all of the credits over, and tacked on the FCC which was 25% based on the TA fare (quite a lot more than the new cruise), and the additional $100 OBC.  I was also really fortunate to get United to change my one way non refundable ticket to a RT with the new dates for only about $400 more.  Now I need to work on the hotel I prepaid for two nights!

All in all the best I could make of the situation.

I got this letter in my email along with my 25% FCC and I am not even booked on this cruise...very strange. Very strange indeed.  I was "thinking" about booking it, but when I checked it was sold out.

I went on that cruise this summer. Lots of problems with the tenders and all but two of the ports are tender ports. Make sure you are either Platinum/Diamond or have a suite...and get to the lounge EARLY to get your tender ticket...as in, if you are supposed to be at the lounge from 7 am to 8 am, be lined up at 6 am. Make sure you get on one of the first tenders. Otherwise, you may not get off the boat until noon.

Presumably the 25% fcc is only on the monies already paid ie 25% of the deposit, or is it 25% of the whole cruise fare, minus port fees and tax?

When I had my inaugural Mardi Gras cancelled, we got FCC on the entire cost of our sailing even though we had only paid the deposit.

Thanks for the heads up - do you remember which ports were not tenders?

The one in Belfast, Northern Ireland was not tender and in one of the stops in the Orkney Islands (the islands far north of Scotland)...either the Isle of Lewis or Isle of Sky. I can't recall which one, though. One was a tender port and one had a dock.  Edinburgh, Wales, Dublin, and the other port in the Orkney Islands were all tender. I think most of the ports in Iceland are tender as well. From what I heard from people on the ship, the Iceland cruise had even more problems with tender waits than our cruise.  The med cruises apparently don't have this problem, though, as most of them are not tender ports.  The problem was that ALL Carnival had to transport passengers from the ship to shore were a couple of the life boats off the ship that were not very big.  And, in a couple of instances, it was a 20 minutes or so boat ride into the port. Plus, a lot of the passengers on the Europe cruises are older or mobility impaired and take a long time to load and unload...and they have to deal with their chairs, scooters, walkers, etc. Not bashing anyone for that because my mother is the same way, but just explaining that is why it sometimes takes awhile to load and unload the tenders.

Appreciate your great reply to the delay.

Things happen which is why I never book inaugural cruise.

We found out about it while on Vista yesterday. Put a damper on our last sea day for sure. I really want to cruise again next December, but not about to pay what they are asking for Jubilee on the 23rd. Unless Carnival delays Vista leaving Galveston until Jubilee arrives, I'm stuck with Dream for a cruise longer than five days.

We had that same cruise booked. Even had a sweet hump balcony 9366 (if memory serves). Took the FCC and put it on a Miracle Hawaii cruise with an even better cabin. Then that got cancelled by COVID as did our B2B we had scheduled on the Magic in a Spa Balcony. At that point, we had lost 29 days due to COVID. But we took all the original credits (from Mardi Gras) and booked a 10 day Alaska (with @ $1200 in OBC) in a bowling alley balcony on Miracle, PLUS a 7 day on Panorama in a Spa Balcony, PLUS our upcoming 12 day Baltic Sea cruise next July on Pride in an extended balcony.

All told, after losing the Mardi Gras 16 day - we had 29 days then canceled due to COVID. So we re-booked another 29 days. The new cruises had ($1200 OBC, $600 OBC, and $600 OBC) AND our Carnival PVP got us @ $3500 credited back to our credit card even after accounting for the new cruises. So we were initially disappointed at losing Mardi Gras (and then Hawaii and the B2B) - but we managed to make some pretty nice lemonade from those lemons.

When this happened to us with the Mardi Gras,  it was 25% of the base cruise fare,  not 25% of what you had already paid. 😎

Agree - I think we carried forward about @ $1900 in credit from Mardi Gras that we put on our Hawaii cruise. But I though it was a 50% FCC on the base fare that Carnival gave us back then. But I could be wrong.

I saw the news from a blogger who said rcl will benefit. Harmony is coming into Galveston next nov and some might jump ship to harmony and do jubilee further down the road.

I've been watching jubilee prices myself but for after my 14 days on dream jan 2024.

Idk if some will jump ship or not. Carnival 7 day has been sat to sat, and rcl sun to sunday. I'm betting the prices on rcl dont drop from here for the dates carnival cancelled. No more price drops on harmony.

Watching jubilee and prima for some lower priced deals, lol, but so far no luck, maybe last minute.
