On both segments of this cruise - I’ve seen a lot of this:

trays left in the hallways.  I just don’t get doing that - there is a little table in the room.  Why not call to have it picked up and leave it there?

In our experience, being more than 2 people in the cabin, the tables are removed before we arrived so the only place for a tray is on the bed or, if you have a balcony, out there. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We only learned that cabins had: tables, bolster cushions, opaque drapes from the cabin crawl.  So perhaps there was no place to put the tray and get ready/packed?

But, what I did notice was this:

paper cups for coffee?  When DH and I did room service (usually on an early port day) we always had real coffee cups.  This is a new one, for me.

Kazu, we noticed the trays on the Rotterdam in Nov. then realized it was the cabins with covid, so it made more sense. Although considering all the scooters and walkers it still seemed like a safety issue.

Maybe I’m remembering wrong but I thought there used to be a card on the room service tray that said call xxx to have the tray removed.  I think it would be difficult for a wheelchair to maneuver down the hall if trays were left there.

Also, I had china coffee cups with my room service in November.  I do not drink hot beverages from paper cups. I’ve heard the micro plastics degrade from the heat and it is bad to consume them; plus, they cannot be recycled.

@kazuHope you have a smooth turn around day, a fun visit with you San Diego friend and a good time at the Meet & Greet!

I know there are only 2 people in those cabins 😉

Hope it’s not covid related - those trays are near my cabin.

I don’t think it is - I’ve noticed it every day at different cabins.

You’re memory is very good.  And yes there was always a card.  I haven’t done room service on this cruise - might just have to in order to see if there is a card or not LOL.

When my DW and I were in room isolation, we would put the tray out (as instructed by guest services) and call to have it picked up. It often took them a long time, and other passengers walking by would add coffee cups and other trash to the tray.

I saw this all over the ship on my recent N Statendam cruise. I have never seen it like that before. We got real coffee cups for room service. Maybe they are quarantined? Weird.

I don’t think they were quarantined.  They were loud enough in the hall way at night coming back from drinking 😉 LOL

Yes kazu got off the ship today.  Met my friend Marcia (aka dobiemom)  for lunch and we had some fun catching up.

It was too late to take the advice for the Gaslamp Fisherman’s spot that @SFO PETERkindly gave but today we went there.

Marcia had the fish and chips

And me - I was adventuresome  and tried the crab roll.  Not quite like a lobster roll in how it’s presented but it was good.

The fries were quite tasty 🙂

And, confess I had a white sangria - yum.  I make white sangria and I give this one a full thumbs up 👍

I was blown away when Marcia drove me back to the port.  She had a gift for me.  She knows I like flowers and it’s a flat cardboard thing and when you pop it - it’s 3 dimensional.  It’s very pretty and yes, it’s going home with me.

So very sweet of her ❤️

It can be dangerous to leave trays on the floor of hallways.

During out last cruise (before covid)   one  evening I was walking back to our stateroom when the resuscitation team came running along the hallway pushing the resuscitation trolley. I stood aside in a doorway to let them pass., and indicated to another passenger to stand back to let the team quickly pass by.

Jacqui - Your lunch looks delicious and the flowers are pretty. I agree that

trays should not be left in the hallway and I was surprised to see that room

service delivered paper cups for coffee.  Have a great night.

@kazuis the ship offering masks for those who want them?

L.

Yes they are.  Unlike the Oosterdam they are not in the room but there is a note to just ask if you want them.  I brought my own for if and where I need them.

Meet and Greet was today.

I made my way early to the Crow’s Nest and after about 20 minutes I clued into being in the wrong place.

Found out it was in the billboard and after an elevator finally arrived made my to the Billboard and happy to meet some great CC members and reconnect with others.

Elizabeth. @crystalspin organized it and did a great job.  So happy to meet her at long last to thank her for doing it and helping me with the Bon Voyage threads on my last cruise.  Lovely person just like so many at our M & G today.  We have a great group 👍

I have always loved your many live reports. Such a help to so many.
we will be on the konsingdam in May and have CO. Are there 2 tables of 8 in that dining room?
thanks and enjoy your next week.

Thanks.

There are some big tables in CO - not many - I will check tomorrow and make sure they are not 6’s and 8’s.    I think they are 8’s but don’t want to lead you astray.  But, there are lots of tables of 4 close by that might work - assuming (and it’s a big assumption that there is space.  If you don’t mind high seats there are a lot close by,

I will try to remember to do a pic tomorrow if I can find a time when it is empty.,

The staff were preparing for sail a way before I headed to the M & G yesterday and our bartender was putting on quite a show.

I only did short videos as they take so long to upload.  But he could go quite a while unless someone walked by and clapped.  Every time it happened (at least while I was watching)  he dropped them.

it “pays” to know your bartender.  When I go up to get my own drink later in the evening - my bartender says anything for you, Miss Jack.  And, has gotten generous on a few occasions 😉

This is NOT the standard serving on board 😉

Had a lovely dinner with Pat & Ann (Vict0riann) last night.

Ann was hesitant on the Peruvian chicken and I told her it had been good so she and I had that and, thankfully on request, we were served a smaller portion.

it was good.   Pat had the chicken on the regular menu and said it was good too.

The ceviche appetizer was yummy.

And the dessert was really good - light and lovely.

I did a lot of walking (for me) yesterday especially coming back on the ship.  For disembarkation we were allowed to use the A deck which is an easy walk.  On turnaround day last time when I stayed on we could use A deck to re-board.

But, coming back on board later it was not permitted so I had to do the long walk — Grrr.  By evening my foot was feeling unhappy so I bypassed evening activities and retired earlier than usual.

Now to my busy schedule for today 🙂

Sundry info:

Passed by my cabin stewards in the hallway and they seemed to be a long way up.  We had a mini chat and it turns out that the 2 of them have 33 rooms to care for.

Ship has 2500 passengers on this time.

and note - there is a happy hour today - 50% off all drinks.    It’s a strange time though (to me) 6:30 - 7:30

Sel de Mer & Pinnacle Grill are again completely sold out on this cruise.

We succeeded getting our Tamarind booking changed to include the 5 of us on New Years Day evening and another booking on the last night (for me) on this segment.  the others are staying on.

although its a sea day, it’s a Casual Night.  The captain still has his toast though.

Dressy night will be a port day as it is New Year’s Eve - similar to last cruise when the Dressy night was Christmas Eve.
