Why no medallion for kids 2 and under?

Our upcoming group cruise includes a sweet 2-year-old. I was surprised to learn that kids 2 and under do not receive a medallion. Wondering if anyone knows why? We have been speculating many theories. Because of this, they can't be in the green lane.

Out of curiosity, why would your less than 2 year old need a medallion?  They can't order drinks or open the cabin door by themselves (too heavy).  They will be able to accompany you anywhere you go.

If you are worried about them getting lost, get an airtag for them.

A 3 year old is a little more verbal than a 2 year old and less likely to put it in their month.  I know my grand-daughter understands it's not something to eat.

Oh I don't think their parents are worried about it, we just found it interesting. I believe that answer comes down to 3-year-olds and up can go to the kids club, so they might benefit from a medallion when dropped off.

so presumably the younger child would always be with parents/family but the parent could track where the older child was if they went to kids club?

I was just on the Diamond and a mom pushing an infant in a carriage told me that her baby needed a medallion to board!!

Very strange!!

I do not think so. Many refuse to use the medallion. You can also ask for a cruise card as we used to have.

The biggest issue with this (outside of green-lane access for embarkation) is that the medallion sensor does not recognize when the infant is 'in-cabin'.  This comes into play when satisfying the required viewing of the in-cabin safety video for the muster drill after boarding.

The video will have to be watched (again) through the medallion app on a device(such as a phone) to be able to check off that the child has viewed it.

A minor inconvenience, but it is what it is.

I don’t know that there are a lot of people refusing the medallion. On 4 cruises I was on in 2022 I did not see anyone using a cruise card in a bar, shop casino or getting on and off ships

I used the term "many" because I see that quite often on CC and CC is only a small segment of cruisers. I wanted the OP to understand that it is not required.

and some have boldly posted , they wanted a cruise card to add to their 'collection'

if you request a cruise card, do you turn in your medallion?

Perhaps "some" would have been more accurate?

Our daughter will be 3.5 years old when we board our Alaska cruise in September. Does anyone have a recommended least annoying way for her to wear it? Ankle? Necklace that she will inevitably pull off? We were on a NCL cruise the week before Christmas and she somehow managed to get her card inside an arcade machine literally the last day of the cruise and of course we had to get it replaced because they said she couldn't disembark without it and I am not looking forward to her potentially losing her medallion and us having to get it replaced as well.

No your daughter will not be required to wear the medallion, just carry it with you or someone in your “party”.
