Rare Stickman1990 Posted March 6, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2023 Always a hot topic and lots of smoke raised From the FAQ - it looks very similar to the previous one - the question is just what are the “designated” smoking areas going to be WHAT IS THE SMOKING POLICY? At Crystal, we recognize that some of our guests smoke and others do not. While most areas of the ship are non-smoking, there will be designated smoking areas throughout. Please note that pipe and cigar smoking is only allowed in the Connoisseurs Club and all suites/guest rooms are non-smoking, including on the verandas. Well unless Manfredi and his cronies are on board then anything goes as we have seen on Silversea. Let's Hope that it all goes well and that the rules cater for everyone. Just look at the dress code. You can turn up in virtually anything these days. It's all grey area stuff
KenzSailing Posted March 6, 2023 #7 Share Posted March 6, 2023 I've cruised long enough I remember when our cruise line left an ash tray in every cabin because smoking was permitted in every cabin. Let's see, what cruise line was that? Oh yeah, Crystal Cruises(back in the two-words-in-the-name days.) I find the current accommodation, which has been around for quite a few years, reasonable. And to save others the effort I'll add: they need to address smoke leakage from the Connie Club on Symphony.

Smoking is regulated to one...that's right one... area of the ship: Viking vessels are generally nonsmoking. In order to accommodate guests who choose to smoke, there is a designated outdoor smoking area on the starboard side of Deck 8. All other areas of the ship, including your stateroom and veranda, are designated nonsmoking areas. Smoking restrictions also apply to e-cigarettes. It was scheduled to be done in the 2020 drydock. Hopefully they will still do it because as you say, it is definitely necessary.

Not because I would ever sail on that line but purely because it would keep the overdramatic arm waving, whinging crowd off the decent ships. I haven’t smoked for 5 years and really don’t like the smell of smoke but I wouldn’t dream of walking through one of the few smoking areas on a ship and making such an unholy fuss about it.

Renaissance cruise line. They had all non-smoking ships. (The lovely little R ships - bought by Princess and Oceania and then Azamara and still sailing) They went broke. The two were not necessarily causally related, but industry execs probably remember.
History&Wine Posted March 7, 2023 #18 Share Posted March 7, 2023 If you've ever been on a Viking ship, you know you have to search to find a single smoker. Viking has the most restrictive smoking policy at sea. And far from being out of business like the defunct lines being posted here...Viking keeps adding new ships. And Viking was voted number one in both Ocean (medium ships) and River cruising by Conde Nast traveler survey. I remember it caused quite a stir here when Viking passed Crystal in the ratings. bitob Posted March 7, 2023 #19 Share Posted March 7, 2023 Personally I have not sailed Viking. But I have never met a single cruiser who didn’t tell me how much they love Viking. This includes folks I met on Crystal. Tempted There must be something to it

In 2019 Crystal was voted number 1 overall by Condé Nast readers, Viking second, Seabourn third, Regent fourth. Also in 2011, 2014 the only years I can find. I’m sure others agree as no cruise line is for everyone. I was just always surprised when I met folks on crystal who preferred Viking. Didn’t compute.
