AARP cards are not "restricted" or require them to "be redeemed by another company". I have used about $10K worth of cards for Princess and maybe $3K with Carnival *directly*. They are the *official* gift cards supplied from the cruise line itself.

Well, I *know* for a fact that the cards for Royal and Celebrity are the "official" cards from the cruise lines. These have been discussed at length in those forums. Many people successfully use them and have shared their experiences. I think you may be referencing some other type of card from a company that actually does require special redemption. Sharedservices...is the third party that is between user and Royal. In any case they come with restrictions, unlike gift cards purchased dirrctly from Royal. They cannot be partially used, can only be used for cruise fare and notdrink packages, etc or for onboard spend.

As you know the ones from Carnival and Princess can be used at any time and for any expenses tied into your cruise. On the other hand, the Celebrity cards can only be used towards your initial deposit and have a dollar threshold attached to them per booking per cabin, I think it's 1000. Much more restrictive.
cruzsnooze Posted October 7 #534 Share Posted October 7 The Royal are devices certificates and hard to use with so many restrictions I lost $40 to use it. It cannot be used for a deposit and then not used towards port fees or taxes. You must book directly with RCI then you can transfer to a TA. I won't buy them ever again. It worked just like the AARP cards except that they send one email with a link to all five cards, so it's slightly easier. I received them almost immediately after purchase and was able to apply them on my Princess account with no problems whatsoever. Thanks again! Rare EllieinNJ Posted October 7 #543 Share Posted October 7 There is also a 2% statement credit for Newegg on the Amex everyday credit card.
MattnTricia Posted October 7 #544 Share Posted October 7 Our credit union has 10% off. We need enough to pay off 2 cruises. Although 10% better than AARP we do lose the ability to use a credit card for miles to pay😟 so it’s about a wash. ecstatic to still get a discount though😀
