I would smile and secretly take in some makeup and fashion tips as these queens have the absolute best fashion sense! Guess you have never watched Ru Paul or Queer Eye? You should since you are so into fashion. Me? Noooo. However I am sure number of people who think that shorts and crocks are the most appropriate outfit for MDR definitely would. Crocs are close toed shoes so meet the criteria of the dress code in every way. You just think they are ugly. I live in Colorado, home of the first croc. The founders went to the neighboring high school. I have a different opinion of Crocs because I see the founders do for the community. If you truly want a black tie experience, I suggest you get involved with a charity. They usually have black tie fundraisers you can attend. Most need volunteers so it gives you the chance to attend a black tie event with just a little work. Our daughter had modeled for the Global Down Syndrome's Be Beautiful Be Yourself fashion show which is chock full of glitter and glam of numerous A list celebrities.

I've been on several cruises with people dressed in drag. Who cares?

I actually own Crocs, I also own swimwear and many other things I do not to evening restaurant. Who is talking about Black Tie experience?! LOL. If normal shoes and pants is equal to Black Tie experience for you I wonder where exactly do you live and what do you do? 🙂

That's why, with the exception of our July Oasis sailing booked specifically to sail with our Daughter and Familiy, our next 3 cruises are booked on a different cruise line. Diamond status is no longer an encentice to book with RCI!!! P.S. I would named the other line but that would just open up another "pandora's box of replies". I understand different cruise lines appeal to different people, which is a good thing when it comes to the cruise industry. Getting 5 free drinks per day as a Diamond Plus along with being able to drink for free in the casino is enough to keep me mainly loyal to RCI, with 1-2 cruises per year on Celebrity. Speaking of other cruise lines, I am two cruises away from reaching the highest loyalty level (Diamond) on another cruise line, but I will never cruise on that line again. It is not only food, but whole experience, ambiance. Same with cruise lines. I realize that my last cruise was 5 dayer, so this probably affected passengers mix probably. We dropped Carnival because there was a big mismatch for us. Or should I say too big. I’m not sure what restaurants on a RC ship would inspire you to choose them over Celebrity etc because the dining experience is far from what it used to be. With the changed MDR menus the expected food decline has happened. Perhaps guests have followed suit (word pun intended) and have started to dress down to match the quality of the food offerings.

At least getting out quickly gets you up to the pool deck faster so one get throw a towel on desired seat(s). Allows for a later sleep the following day. (Tip discussions welcome as well). Celebrity of course offers higher standards in this department. No doubts about it. There are other variables to this equation. Like number of ships offered from Northeast (Boston, Bayonne, Baltimore) for example and more. However restaurants on RCI while not perfect (X food is better), but good enough. I'd prefer existing ambiance remaining. Not too formal, not too riff raff, Nice balance. Every line we sailed with (starting 2003) Celebrity - 7 times Princess - 7 times Holland America - 2 times NCL - 9 times MSC - 2 times Cunard - 1 time except for Carnival (3 times) had something better than RCI, but overall RCI offers the best value and variety for us. Everybody knows that the hairy-legged, burping, farting, croc and shorts wearing plebeians are the same ones who remove auto-tips. Never mind tipping extra.

I only miss variety in appetizers as even before menu change I switched to eating 2-3 appetizers instead of appetizer + entree (desserts were dropped long time ago). Even before menu change we usually were out in 45 minutes. Edited June 12, 2023 by Tatka

Especially if your sailing is a more relaxed Caribbean cruise. But if it's Europe ... they might want to invest in a pair or two of khakis or even black jeans. No need to get fancy, just a step up from what they'd wear during the day. Ball caps at 75% of tables on most cruises.
