PAYING for Pizza in Sorrento’s

Posting this again so everyone understands.......

Listen to Mike -

It was simply a question on a survey sent to some cruisers.

Sorrento's currently remains free.

Currently is the key word. Johnny Rocket's went down this path years ago.

Nope, this is crazy! Taking our grown kids on a cruise with their families & my DIL when I was telling her about the different eating venues, she asked, how much will all these cost? Ummmm, nothing unless we choose specially dining because it is included in the fare, that we are covering. I can not imagine telling her all these except for the pizza place…. No Royal, that is a horrible idea for families. My SIL asked me about getting a condo and visiting Acadia National Park. If the value is not there for families, we can/will do other vacations.

If Royal becomes so damn greedy, that they start charging for pizza, I’m done with them! I’ll cruise on Carnival before I deal with this BS! Absolutely disgusting that they are even asking this of guests! Bean counter running the company!

Nothing good ever comes from that!

Just a survey...  Deep down I am sure even the bean counters know they can't justify charging for it.  I just don't get it, it is bloody pizza, even the 'best' pizza is just pizza.  A food to be consumed when trying to sober up at the best of times.  Perhaps they could charge if you want a full pizza?

I know it was just a survey, but they're already pissing people off with the changes they have already made, I'm surprised they keep trying to see how far they can push the envelope. Like, sit the next few rounds out and chill for a minute. Let people adapt. All it does is beg the question, "What's next?"...

I am riding out the last two reservations I made over a year ago at much better prices than available now.

I have one for next year at a very good price.

I will only tolerate once a day room service and reduced menu options both in the Windjammer and Main Dining room if I can get an excellent price.

Considering that I used to do three cruises a year, I am already slowing down my cruise reservations and dollars.

I know the law of supply and demand. I am more than happy to let someone else demand a cruise at a higher price. I have my limits and will cruise less until I see a reasonable balance between excellent service and  price.

These 2 bolds are a bit contradictory .

Agree to an extent about specialty VS MDR except , until MDR is not an option at all , (which I have surmised may be their end game) , I will not pay an upcharge for a better quality dining experience , but instead enjoy the included food experience as best I can

Cheers

Have you ever experienced Johny Rockets? No better than Wind Jammer, but costs $15 and generally completely empty.

Let's face it .... Sorrentos is not a pizza anyone would pay for. RCL know that ... their main concern is how much will this effect future bookings. If everyone says you will still sail then be prepared another cut in the 1000 cuts RCL is rolling out and Sorrentos will have a charge. Next will be reservations for a fee for shows, flow rider, bumper cars etc. RCL will keep adding fees until a real push-back happens and bookings fall. They hoodwinked ever one into Specialty Dining by lowering the quality of the MDR.

This is the WOW factor ....Worst On Water.

I have to agree with you on the Main Dining Room. Sailed on Allure last month. Menu on our final night - Royal Hamburger, Chicken Sandwich, and 4 bean Chili.

Have really lowered the standards for food.

We did eat at Chops twice. Food and service were excellent.

Aside from the pizza, what I found interesting was the model for the dining package they also asked about.  Yes, $399, but it would get you $499 worth of food credit.  Note, it didn't say 'unlimited dining' and here's why.  In their one scenario, all the specialty dining would be priced a la carte.  When you run out of package credit, that's it.  The rest is on you.  $499 is about $71 per day for the 7 day cruise.  Most people would run out of that credit well before the end of the cruise by the time you add in a dinner at chops, maybe lunch or a snack at Playmakers--or a perhaps a slice or 2 of pizza?  😛   Forget about a second appetizer, dessert...and definitely entrees.  The other idea that was floated was $399 and you could go to the specialty restaurant and choose 1 appetizer, 1 entree, 1 dessert.  No a la carte pricing, but limits amount you can have.

As we can read on several RCI threads here in the forum, in SOME cruises they overbook the UDP or there are difficulties in booking desirable time slots for many. Or, in other words: RCI being victim on its popularity here. Hence the correction. That would be expected nonetheless.

What shouldn't be expected is to see the market going for the EU's Ryanair and other airline low cost business model, forgetting that people are just some 7 days inside a single ship, mostly without possible exit during evening and night. For me: I'd just to adjust my program to have a once in a 3-4 years cruise, but cruise full AI cruise lines, than to endure an yearly full base line low cost experience that is totally watered down and which full cost will ultimately to be far more than the advertised price. Explora Journeys is selling just some nice itineraries of some 5-10 night cruises, on a true AI fashion at the price of some 2-3 regular baseline cruises. I don't cruise since 2018. Going higher on the market is now my way forward. Not interested on the Ryanair cruise model of the current mainstream markets, nor the longer itineraries of some luxe lines. I hope there should be some remnants of high quality half to full inclusive experiences and let me to enjoy them as time goes by. Not possible to handle a once a year cruise? No worries! I can await.

Paying apart for poor fast food, being it burgers or pizzas?... Ok, on a quick Ryanair flight if that is my mood, never on a 7 nights cruise where I'm on ship with all the others and my last worry would be to stay tuned all day to my onboard account!...

I'd to understand the need for pizzas or burguer free reservations, especially on later out of regular operation hours for waste control, that is perfectly understandable. And the ability of the company to impose a hard tax on ones whom don't get up their reserved items, or leave letting a huge leftover. Tell those individuals a $100 will be added to their account in case of those failures. If company doesn't want to consider those "fines" as profit, give them to charities. Good marketing and good disciplinar practice on them, but make me a favor: Let those simple things that can be seen as basic needs to be what they were ever and ever. For now I'm out.

Maybe they are seeing what happens if they shut down the free pizza and open a paid pizza parlor.

They already have a paid pizza parlour on some ships - Jamie’s and Giovannis

I'll never understand Johnny Rockets. Why would I want to go on a ship just to eat the same fast food I can get at home?

The same reason people go on the ship and eat at Golden Corral (aka Windjammer).

Well, some or maybe even many folks don't live near a JRs.  Without making a special trip, the only way I get to go to a JRs if I travel to certain locations anyway.  For example, if I travel to Windsor, Canada to go to the Casino there, there is a JRs in the casino that we go to.

JR'S must like casino locations. The Mohegan Sun in CT has one also.
