We can’t wait to be back on board Silver Muse - we had a great cruise on her earlier this year

As always it pays to do your research before booking to make sure you know what’s on offer on each ship - restaurants and other facilities can vary on those with a larger fleet

This one’s around US$400 per day based on the port to port fare - so well below the $650 you’ve mentioned

Yes, but who would want to go to Australia or New Zealand?

To upgrade categories from a window cabin to a veranda cabin for 2 people is that much more and always  has been.  I think the 25% solo upcharge was  a good value but we are in a new era - not just Crystal but all the fares are up for the luxury lines.

Not true on new Crystal, Kathy. I paid $200 pp, for my eleven night Caribbean in November and my eight night west coast in June. Great bargains!

I booked it for 9 nights on the West Coast Cruise in June

I guess some of it is dependent on the actual cruise ports

Certainly not all of them fall into that category - as an example this one is at a fare level that is very much standard for this very common route on a luxury line (I haven’t reviewed all 21 cruises on offer by Silversea)

Port to port is a non option if you need to cancel. It is ok if it is a last minute booking.

My DD got zero single supplement on the Endeavour in August but ours was a last minute booking to coincide with our return on Crystal.

Port to port is definitely an option - as to whether it suits an individual that’s their call - we definitely book Port to Port as it works for us

Any cruise booking at a certain point becomes an issue if cancelling - that’s what travel insurance is for to cover that risk

Travel insurance for any reason doesn’t provide a return of 100%. Besides, I believe our choices for travel insurance in Canada are some what limited.

If cancel for any reason insurance is of that great importance to you, perhaps long-range travel planning is not for you.  Look at shorter time frames.  And if even that isn't appropriate, is travel?

Just MHO.

Maybe it is Canada but in the USA one can most certainly get a policy to cover 100% of the cost less the premium for the policy.  This is not something I normally do but with sound advice from our travel specialist I did for a specific cruise and had to use it.  Yes, there were lots of forms to fill out and followup to some redundant questions but 100% of the money came back.

I totally agree with your point…. As an aside though, this itinerary does perfectly illustrate the point that FlyerTalker was making about the solo promotions generally applying to challenged inventory.  The first two and a half weeks of December are on average the hardest period of time to sell travel in the US, and many other countries.  We tend to think of months like February as slow periods overall because Christmas saves December’s perception, but the rest of December is global headache for industry sales departments at US-based travel suppliers like Silversea (regardless of where the property, itinerary or route is).

Wonderful itinerary though, and a great example of the values out there for solo travelers if you have enough flexibility!

As they say it’s 5 o’clock somewhere…. I have no doubt that cruise will be attractive to some markets - it’s summer in Australia and the beginning of holidays - always popular for getting away for a pre Christmas break

Your comments about the US market doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the case for other countries at that time

But that’s just 1 of 21 itineraries that Silversea are offering with no single supplement - I’m not sure that each of them has a tale of woe as to their attractiveness to potential clients

All cruise lines are continually battling to sell capacity - and I think that’s going to get even harder as more and more capacity enters the luxury, or near luxury, market - so they’ll all be looking at ways they can move capacity - at any time of year

If you re-read my message I did note that it’s not necessarily as off-peak locally, but when your home base is hardly traveling at that time, even half way around the world it becomes harder when you can only sell to a local market.

I wasn’t saying that time frame was the travel industry’s only sales challenge, there are others, but it’s clear as day to anyone in a similar seat to Silversea’s sales team why this cruise is on that list.

This solo offers seem to be kind of last minute (within the next 6 months). I would take them if I have nothing planned already. I would not need that much a travel insurance for that because the cruise is not that far away. I would also prefer the option port to port because I prefer to book my own flights.

I agree.

Some of those itineraries are interesting and relatively easy to reach from South America. Galapagos and cruises to the Antartic out of Chile for example.

And all those wonderful new ships coming to the market… Mein Schiff for example is bringing 2 more new ships. NCL seems to be bringing more ships with solo cabins. Azamara offers solo supplement discounts on many voyages. And in the so called “luxury segment “, there are apparently cruise lines which are highly rated like Scenic and Atlas and which some of us have not tried before. An interesting development for cruises. I am not sure if those new cruise lines offer solo discounts but at the end what counts for me is the per diem. Cruises to GALAPAGOS for example have a very high per diem because they are unique itineraries. I would like to do such a cruise.

I think you mean eight nights?

And I, of course, meant a $200 price difference pp, for the entire cruise. So it’s more of a bargain for my eleven night than my eight night. Still only $25 pp per night.

I’m not sure whether it’s port dependent. Do you mean the popularity of the ports?

The cost of a veranda may be price dependent. on the ports.

Duh!  If you look at the itinerary it has 9 ports...over 8 nights. I read that wrong.

We are long range travel planners. Currently booked until 2025 December….Crystal.
More likely SSea is not for me. Though I do have an Endeavour cruise booked for 2025 using the Door to Door.

Unfortunately, dates are too soon for me as have one on Nova coming soon.  Looking at some to middle east at year's end (2024) which appear to be better deal at 25percent supplement than what Crystal is offering in single cabin.  The cost of shore excursions is likely to make CC trip more expensive. Guess will get my deposit back.

Well my TA forwarded me an email she received from Crystal about special single fares on select sailings for Aquamarine and Sapphire and two phone calls to Crystal and she still can’t get fare information.  She wants to be able to book online but that still hasn’t happened.  She is calling back tomorrow
