Gareth Gates video

I heard the recording for the first time this morning. It was played on LBC in it's entirety, in a segment on stammering and the resultant bullying experienced from same. What a lovely boy Gareth Gates seems to be.

In this dreadful world we inhabit you sort of expect it from cruel school children but from mothers and grandmothers? They should be well and truly ashamed of themselves but do you know what - they're probably just annoyed they got caught. Pond life.

This just is not acceptable.

Carnival is a massive diverse and inclusive company. Whilst they are not in control of their guests thoughts and comments, they will intervene when guests behave inappropriately.

It appears in this case that the immediate issue has been dealt with. No doubt, someone at head office will also consider the response and whether further follow-up is needed.

My hope is that this does not put Gareth Gates off performing on board. He puts on a good show which I'd recommend.

Sadly not in my recent experiences.  Hopefully they may after this dreadful incident they might start to be proactive as they used to be.

This was the follows up post Gareth posted a day ago :-

It’s our last day onboard @pandocruises Arvia and, in spite of a few individuals, we’ve had the best time.

Thanks for all of your kind messages relating to my ‘Stand up to Bullying’ video. Many people have thanked me for making a stand and speaking up; I appreciate all your comments 😊

But - the person who really needs to be thanked is this strong girl beside me. It was her who stood up to the bullies. Thank you @allanataylor_ for standing up for me. Your courage has impacted more people than you know in the fight against Bullying; and hopefully these 3 women will think twice before engaging in such behaviour again.

Thanks to Neil Oliver and his team onboard Arvia for dealing with the situation immediately. They moved us to another cabin straight away and the 3 women were pulled into the office and given a warning. Again, hopefully they’ve learnt their lesson.

I’ve worked for @pandocruises for 5 years and have never experienced this type of behaviour before. The people onboard these ships are always so lovely and I enjoy performing on them.

I can’t wait to be back on Arvia in January. But in the meantime I’m joining their other ship Iona next week; where I’ll be including a brand new song to my set; David Bowies ‘Ch-ch-ch Changes’ 🤣😩

As I was reading through this thread and got to moleys post I immediately thought of your experience and lo and behold. Lets hope P&O start clamping down on bullying and bad behaviour.

Having seen the video of GG and totally shocked I think the time has come for P&O to stop sitting on the fence and clamp down on bad behaviour onboard in all aspects. It gives you the impression that P&O are turning a blind eye as they are desperate to fill the larger ships. Perhaps with people escorted off the ship at the next port if deemed necessary by the Captain and follow up action after the cruise by head office.

I  know I'm going to get slated for this but I really do think people trying to get their monies worth from the drinks package is part of the problem, and I suspect that might have been what was egging these women on.

Many people don't need to be drunk to be horrible though

It's just in their nature

Interestingly the other night on the Channel 4 Gogglebox program one of the couples was discussing going on a cruise and whether to have the drinks package and her comment was "If I am paying for 15 drinks I will have them even if I don't want them"

I wonder if by putting a limit on the number of drinks P&O are throwing down the challenge and actually pushing people into drinking too much. If there was no limit some people would still drink more than 15 but I think they would be in the minority. We used to take the drink package back in the day when we were working and just drank what we wanted as and when and never gave much thought to whether we had broke even albeit I am sure we did as we would be in the disco till the small hours and have a couple of glasses of wine with lunch four or five with dinner, try a couple of cocktails and then a few beers before hitting the rum and coke. However we didn't do that every night otherwise we wouldn't have been fit for exploring while in port. I was surprised at the number of people we met who had bought the drink package on our 40 night Arcadia cruise last year.

With P&O fast becoming a budget, pile it all on with the drinks etc experience cruise, it is sadly going to be likely that those low life who are nasty need even less excuse to be vile with a few easy drinks inside them. But as been said, some people are just vile without any drinks inside them. Good on P&O for dealing with the situation this time.

Plenty of the nastiest, vilest people in the UK are more than wealthy enough to have their own super yachts let alone cruise on any cruiseline whatever the budget

And at the same time many of the nicest people in the UK probably can't even afford to cruise at all

I honestly don't think budget creates nicer or less nice people tbh

Maybe the wealthier nasty and vile people just know how to disguise it better? Or whisper more?

And am I not correct in saying many far more expensive cruises include as much as you could possible drink as part of the deal for every customer?

Just saying....

Being nice or vile is not all about  alcohol and/or choice of cruiseline IMO

And certainly not about budget

Clearly not about agegroup either based on these 3 women from different generations

The difference is they are mainly US ships, different client base and with high prices for drinks and packages.  On the more mid range ships the cruise line will not hesitate to put you off for bad behaviour.

Unfortunately certain elements of the British public have a very bad relationship with alcohol and they are creeping into areas of entertainment, sport and holiday venues as they want "experiences".  Realistically these "elements" can cross all generations if their background and social setting perceives excess drinking as normal.  They can indeed be the posh but it is most unlikely you will encounter any of these people on a regular cruise line.

They should have been kicked off the ship at the first available port and banned for life from P&O and prosecuted for hate crime.

Zero tolerance with scum like that.

Why should Gareth have had to move cabins ? Ridiculous. They should have been moved pending offload.

Was this the TA on the Arvia, Gareth was in the Limelight club

I've read elsewhere that six people were thrown off this cruise in Tortola, two for getting too friendly in a hot tub and four for fighting.

Isolated incidents apparently in an otherwise excellent cruise.

I despair of some people, I really think the world’s gone mad at times.

I’m glad P&O had a word with these horrible women but they should have been thrown off at the next port in my opinion.

This has been in all the papers and all over social media now for the last few days so is it wrong of me to think wouldn't it be good if one of the papers investigated and named and shamed the women ( not going to call them ladies) in question?

It would - but it isn't going to happen because there is no mileage in it for the papers
