Move Up Terms and Conditions - seems like this has changed

Just received a moveup offer for a 13 night cruise from Singapore to Australia. With all the recent changes going on at X I decided to dive into the terms and conditions and there is one sentence indicates to me that you would get nothing extra other than the room in a move up. Here is a direct quote

"Any promotions associated with the original booking will remain in effect. The Upgrade will not be eligible to receive any promotions or benefits that are applicable to the stateroom had it been originally booked at that stateroom category."

Seems to me that if you don't receive any benefits related to the new room that you would not get unlimited free dining in pay restaurants etc.....

The move up bid from a Sunset SS to the PH is reasonable, but we are not going to bid.

Curious how others read this

Cheers

That is not new.   It has always been the case that you receive the amenities that come with the room but none of the perks you get when booking the room.

An example is if you were upgraded to a Royal Suite -  You do not get the free drink package and Premium Internet.   You do get the 2 bottles of free premium liquor, Unlimited Specialty Dining, Access to Luminae, Access to Retreat (with free drinks in Retreat but not Sundeck) Free Laundry.

Agree that language has always been there.

It is most relevant when bidding to any category except upper suites as in those cases you keep whatever drink package and wifi-package you may or may not have had with your original booking.

Upper suites actually have a premium drink package and 4 device wi-fi package that are a room amenity (not a perk) and so a bid up to a penthouse would give you those benefits plus all the other room amenities (specialty dining, 2 bottles of liquor, Retreat and Luminae access, etc.).

These 2 responses are not the same as to upper suites and beverage & wi-fi packages. My understanding was the same as Jim's.

In this post from a thread last summer someone posted a screenshot of the acknowledgment related to perks and a move-up bid to an upper suite.  I thought there was a more recent thread with actual reports from people who had successfully moved up to an upper suite that I'm not finding quickly.

I guess my question to @Joker54 is whether this same acknowledgement is part of the move-up bid process.

I've never upgraded except from a SS or CS to and Upper Suite.     I don't believe you get the Drink Package if you don't have it but confirm you do get the extra 2 wifi connections.   I  bow to anyone that has upgraded from less than a SS and to an upper suite as they have real knowledge.

The only amenities listed are

  • Complimentary bottled water, soda, and beer stocked daily
  • Unlimited lunch and dinner in all specialty restaurants
  • Two complimentary bottles of premium spirits
  • VIP canapés
  • Complimentary laundry service (twice per cruise)
  • Priority luggage delivery

They do mention getting free internet and drinks package as part of the booking but has a Big *     Of course they don't explain the *

So if you’ve booked Aqua with All Included and move up to an RS, you’ll keep your drinks and WiFi package?  The minimum bid for the RS on our 10-day Infinity sailing is $2k pp but I’m not really feeling it.

Yes you always keep the drink package and wifi that you had with your original room.

One thing being discussed here is for RS and above does the room come with Premium Drink Package and Wifi as room amenities like laundry, 2 bottles of spirits, specialty dining (It definitely used to and was in the moveup description for those suites) is still provided.  At one point it was explicitly stated in the moveup text for these upper suites that it was included.  But thinks have been changing.........

Those things as room amenities really don't make any sense now that they include them in all Retreat bookings (yes some casino comp rooms don't).

Before All Included I would book senior rates which didn't come with perks or wifi.  When in a RS I'd get premium drink package and wifi.  Of course this was before the shutdown when they still offered Senior rates.

We moved up to a PH from a SS over a year ago and the perks/amenities were the same as if we had booked the PH originally. The only thing we didn’t get was the points for a PH.

I can’t find the note now, but I recently received something indicating that “amenities may or may not be offered on move up”.

I would call and ask but lately information given on the phone hasn’t been accurate.

Anyway just brainstorming a little here. We are taking the money we would have used for a move up to try a Seabourne cruise.

Thanks to all for providing the their thoughts.

Cheers

If this is solstice, I didn't get it.  And I want to try.  And the agency is eligible.

If you are indicating that you haven’t received moveup offers, there doesn’t seem to be any particular reason why some get those notes and some do not.

you can go to the moveup site and enter booking details and if your eligible you should be able to make a bid - it is the Solstice

Yes, I did that, It keeps coming back with the booking is ineligible.  There's no reason for that, since I can do it for my February cruise just fine.

I figured it out.  It's in my husbands last name.  They're different.  I went ahead and bid.  We're in an Aqua sky suite, and I don't love the location.  I called to downgrade, but I'd pay more and lose considerable perks.

But I can tell you that my experience coming off of Reflection from a Sunset Veranda with a winning Moveup bid to Royal Suite did come with Premium Drink Package and Premium WiFi along with the 2 bottles, specialty dining, etc etc

We have bids in to move from a verandah to Aqua as well as all suites accepting bids.  Our understanding is that our classic bev would remain even if we get a RS.  Celebrity has a special to upgrade for $6.99 per day to premium so we bought that. In the past we upgraded from SS to RS so we already had premium drinks.  We did get the 2 bottles in room and unlimited specialty dining.

I've never figured out how they choose the booking.    I always do all the bookings and pay with my credit card but about 1/2 the time Iain is the Record Holder and eligible for bidding etc.

Jim, are you always the first one to log in after the booking has been made?

I just won a Move Up from Sky Suite to Edge Villa for our sailing next month. I received an email from the Shoreside Retreat Concierge refunding the $600 in OBC I'd prepaid towards six nights of specialty dining! The email indicated I'd get a call next week. Email excerpt below:

Guests in our Royal Suites and above receive unlimited complimentary specialty dining. As a result I have canceled some of your paying specialty dining reservations and secured them complimentary directly in their respective reservation system.  Because of that these restaurants will no longer appear in your calendar.

These are as follow: Table for 2 6pm:

01/22 Eden

01/25 Eden

0126 Roof top Garden Grill

01/27 Fine Cuts.

I have not yet canceled the following 2:

01/23 Fine cuts 6pm

01/24 Roof top Garden grill

But will do the same for them next week.

We look forward to welcoming you onboard the Celebrity Ascent!

Sincerely,
