Just a couple of chicken strips and some fries for breakfast today. Those Carnival biscuits aren't really the greatest in the World... They're pretty dense, like my brain sometimes...

Agreed 100% on the biscuits....not your brain, which seems quite sharp.  I don't like those biscuits much either.

Hopefully with the news that I'm not going to be doing this anymore doesn't lead you to believe that I'm in any way denigrating the Cruise Critic brand or website... They've been GREAT in allowing me to post my daily screed for years now. Honestly, I never had any plans whatsoever to be a "travel writer"... In fact, my mom has been telling me for years that that's "what I should be doing with my life"... (She doesn't even know that I do this at all...)

For the longest time, I've been in search of a greater purpose for my life, and spinning my wheels here just isn't getting me to wherever THAT is... I'd like to write real books making real money, rather than try and entertain what amounts to 318 people... I've got at least three books that I want to write and probably "self publish" since I have no "connections" in"the business"...

I don't even know where I was even going with all that, but I DO want all y'all to know I appreciate EVERY SINGLE ONE of you here reading today as well as in the past. If I do ever write my"magnum opus" hopefully y'all will read it as well...

Absolutely try it. Will be a great hobby or perhaps you can have a YouTube channel, etc. Go with your dreams (but have lots of money socked away).

You know what they say about "tomorrow" being the most popular day of the week.  Sometimes you just need to do it...sounds like you finally made it to tomorrow!  Move forward with no regrets...its the only way to go!

Now go have some fun in St. Thomas and will be looking forward to some great pix from today (love St. Thomas).

That’s 318 people SUBSCRIBED to this thread. There are plenty more, I’m sure, who are reading that haven’t subscribed to the thread.

Make that 319….

When I was getting out of the shower the power went completely out here in my room, and I assume ship wide. Luckily there was one emergency light in here. All dressed and ready to go out and conquer St Thomas, even if it does look like I may not make it to the beach. I think I'm going to walk over and explore Charlotte Amalie or whatever the official name is...

Costume of the day is a throwback to the way way times. I think I bought this shirt in about 1985...

The NHL recently announced they were short-supplied on hockey pucks, but fortunately Carnival stepped up and lent them some biscuits.

@sid_9169 a fellow who lives in my community had to retire (forced on him- Parkinsons Disease) and struggled for a while. He always wanted to be a published author so he went that route and self-published his first couple of books... now he's doing pretty well for himself- not sure if he's getting rich on it but he makes a living and he's happy! So I say Go For It!!!

I'll happily buy a copy of your first book- put the link on the Tribe here on CC and I'm pretty sure it'll sell out!

Meanwhile be happy that the Ole Salt Mine allows you to cruise and spend wonderful days in glorious St Thomas!!! Enjoy your day!

Sid, the best advice I can give you is to "Bloom where you are planted."

I know you are searching for something and I think we all are constantly recalibrating our purpose as circumstances change. In the meantime it is essential to make the most of what you have right now until you are transplanted somewhere new. Bloom!

It already exists, but I'm not making any money off it either yet...

Maybe look into some sort of sponsorship from a good tequila brand…a traveling tequila blog?

I'm just getting back on board now from my little adventure out into St Thomas... I've been here probably around a dozen times or so, but had never been over to the little town of Charlotte Amalie... (Don't know if that's spelled correctly) Anyhoo, the walk over there was a bit more brutal than I'd imagined. From the viewpoint of the ship it looks pretty close. I assure you that it's not as close as it appears, and it's HOT here today...

A couple pictures from my initial journey over there...

As you can see, I was walking along a decent sized little highway, and I was glad that I remembered to put some sunscreen on my head, since I'd left my hat back home in Atlanta... According to my hand drawn map, there was a fort of some kind up ahead, and eventually I saw a big red building that resembled a fort. At least I knew I was getting close at that point...

Eventually I made it up to what looked like the tourist area, and there were jewelry shops on every block. I mean every store WAS a jewelry store as far as I could tell.

None of the streets from the main road had any sort of sign, but I knew to cut back into the town somewhere near the fort. I ended up in an alley filled with old statues, and I was just glad to be in the shade at least... Did I mention that it was hot?

Turns out that alley dead ended into the back door of a jewelry store, so I just opened the door and went through there, eventually making it out on the main road where there were a hundred or so other jewelry shops. In fact, there are very few shops at all that AREN'T jewelry stores. I walked down that road looking for some street signs leading further back into the neighborhood, as I knew that's where the roti shop was, but still couldn't find any actual street signs. Eventually I just asked a guy who looked like a local and he said go back one block from where I'd just came from, and then cut back there. Pretty soon I was in the deep deep depths of the non tourist area in the "real neighborhoods"...

Eventually I was beginning to wonder if I would ever find the place. Next thing I knew, I came out of an alley and it was right there in front of me... Ideal Roti Shop, St Thomas...
