are there little shops etc,, food?

Absolutely, but not directly at the pier. It's not St. Thomas!

Bimini is basically two things. At the south end it's the sailing/marina community of Alice Town where Bahamas bound sailboats cross the gulf stream from Florida to get to. They spend a few days there and proceed further into the islands. Very nice 'local' island vibe.  At the north end of the island is the large and spralling Hilton Resort where you can get a day beach pass. Have fun.

We actually love Bimini, but it's going to be specific to what you enjoy.  We did do an excursion and did a snorkel at the SS Sapona, which was a lot of fun, but short.  Afterwards, we had a lot of time left, so we rented a golf cart and just drove around the island.  There isn't going to be really a lot to do, other than I think the majority of people go the Resort World or whatever it is.  But we actually had one of the best days just driving around in the golf cart.  There are some beautiful beaches.  We stopped at a few of the local "bars" for cheap beers and great views.

As mention by @jsglow, very "local" vibe, and very chill, but if that isn't your thing, you might not like it.  The Hilton is probably the most exciting thing.

We loved Bimini when we stopped there for the first time last month. We rented a golf cart and drove the length of the island, then parked at Radio Beach and just hung out and swam before going back to the ship. It was super chill and nice and the weather was perfect.

Been there twice and my opinion was it was below average.  It's not a big island so there aren't many options for local excursions.  It's beach, water activities, and a casino/resort.  Not much shopping, not a lot of dining options and the price gouging is real.

We did the Resort World beach and the beach was nice and the drinks reasonable but the food was very expensive (but good.)  We also did a little taxi trip to the few shops near radio beach which were interesting and fun.  If we go again we would just go  to Radio Beach, it was not crowded and had several food stands that looked very good and much lower price than Resort World.

Again, it's all whatever someone wants in a cruise port. It's certainly the complete opposite of the new cruise terminal at Nassau or the Havensight pier at St. Thomas.  I really enjoy the authenticity of Alice Town.

Read the tram doesn't stop at Kayak Beach/Fisherman Village/Golf Carts before heading to Resort World now and only stops on the way back? is that right?

That's right. First stop is the casino/resort. Then Resort World. Then the Fisherman Village. Then back to the ship.

When we were there, over a year ago, the tram made a stop at the "free beach".  Maybe they were flagged down.  I like access to facilities so the Free Beach wasn't for me.

Now that you mention it, I think it did make one more stop by the free beach before going back to the ship.

Was just in Bimini right after you made this post. Really small island but I enjoyed the vibe. It definitely felt more authentic than most of the other ports I have been to- which felt touristy. Not much there in terms of shops or food unless you are at the resort or head towards Alice Town. Radio Beach is really nice and does have some food that is reasonably priced and good. Not far from Radio Beach on the main road is a small "mall" that has a few shops with the basic island merchandise.

If we take a taxi down to Radio Beach, how do we organize a taxi to get back to the ship?  Are there taxis readily available or do we need to schedule a pick up with the taxi driver that dropped us off?

We have been to Bimini while on a Celebrity cruise but just walked around in the vacation/residential area and out to a bar/restaurant on the beach and great view of our ship in port. Probably an enjoyable 6+ mile walk roundtrip. We really liked that it was not a crowded, overrun port. We will be returning to Bimini on a Celebrity cruise in December. Is Resort World crowded? Worth doing on our own or with Celebrity's shore excursion?

Making our first stop at Bimini in June on the Beyond.

I see golf carts mentioned a lot. Where do you rent them?

Also would love to rent jet skis so any info there would be appreciated.
