Pirate's LIVE Mother/Daughter Cruise On The Horizon 3/10/24-3/16/24

Recommended Posts

Alright, Barbie was kinda dumb (in

my opinion) but made me laugh. It was a good relaxing “first day of the cruise” activity.

After that, so about 8:45ish, mom and I came back and changed into our swim wear and hopped in the empty Havana pool. It felt glorious! I swam some laps, then we hopped into a hot tub for about 15-20 minutes. Perfect ending to the day!

Not many pics so far today, I ditched my phone (on purpose) to relax some.

I got up at 7:50 and went to get go-go juice (aka coffee). Christian at Java Blue had a LINE, but Ocean Plaza bar only had 1 person ahead of me. I hated to “cheat” on Christian, butttttt…patience isn’t my strong point. And honestly…my iced caramel latte from Ocean Plaza was stronger and yummier than Christian’s. Uh oh, I may have a new go-to spot in the morning….

I went back to the cabin to collect Mom, and we decided on Blue Iguana for breakfast. Nomnomnom!! At 9:00 they are not terribly busy, and it was delicious.

On the way back to the cabin I got an espressotini from the Ocean Plaza bar, which was delicious, then went to the casino to load & play my $25 FunPlay. I lost it quick, oh well.

We headed to change and have some balcony & Havana area time after that. Manuel at the Havana Bar is my new BFF, his La Buena Vida and Hotel Nacionel (that’s not spelled correctly, but gives you the idea of the name) were both strong and delicious. We got in the pool & hot tub for a bit, then decided to come back to the cabin to chill in the a/c for a while. It’s HOT with no breeze and the calmest sea I’ve seen in a while! So far tho it’s a WONDERFUL, relaxing day!

oh yeah! And a tip if you have a mini fridge in your cabin….to help it get more air circulation and stay a bit cooler (ours was hardly cool to begin with)…prop the cabinet door open with a boca clip. 🙂

Now we're getting somewhere! I'm not a coffee drinker but my hubby is and we LOVED hanging out in the mornings at Bar 820 on Celebration. Watching the morning shenanigans was way better than any production show. 😂 I'm hoping Ocean Plaza Bar will have a similar vibe in the mornings. Was anyone actually sitting at the bar, or just in line for coffee?

Thank you for sharing your review. We usually cruise in balconies but I've been interested in trying a Habana Cabana for awhile. However, the see through railings with the sunbeds next to them have me holding back. My husband is super chatty and I feel like if he is that close to people on our patio, he will talk them to death.  In your photo, i don't see that. It looks like your divider has slats and is not see through. Is it like that on both sides? Is this common?

Some people were sitting at the bar, or there are 5-6 tables there that they would sit at. It wasn’t crowded at all tho, and the barista (I gotta get her name tomorrow) was super chatty and nice! People were constantly walking by too, so you might get some good people watching!

There is a divider with slats, then this little “fence” toward the walkway. Honestly tho, I’ve only seen 1-2 couples using their patios so far, I’m suprised…I guess more people are out in the pool area maybe. It is a more social vibe tho, at least feel, in this area. I personally don’t mind chatting with people as they go by!

I can see myself and Craig sitting on our "front porch" waving at the people going by, like we do on our front porch here at home.😉

Hello, my Cruise Critic  family!

I am here yet again to help you all deal with either your post-cruise blues or your “my cruise isn’t approaching fast enough” blues. How do I plan to help with those problems, you ask? By letting you live vicariously through MY live review of this cruise, of course! Sure, you have to mix up your own cocktails, cook your own meals, and make your own bed, but at least you will ALMOST feel like you are on a ship…right?

This is another mother/daughter adventure. I finally convinced my mom to come back to Carnival, despite her newfound love of MSC and their Yacht Club. It was a battle y’all, I almost didn’t think I would win. She only conceded when I promised her a Havana cabin and a drink package. Darn, MSC really spoiled her….she even keeps saying that I will have to be her butler for the week! She is in for a wake up call tho….she will discover real quick if she asks for a drink to be delivered, she better believe that glass will be empty by the time it gets to her!

So, as I said, we are staying in a Havana cabin, a “patio” as I like to call them, on deck 5. I am psyched for the location, it’s #5239, and is the last one before the pool area….score! Just steps to the pool & hot tubs, steps to the Havana bar…I will hardly ever leave the Havana area! Honestly, a cabin in Havana is the only way I will sail a Vista-class ship….I absolutely love that outdoor oasis! Carnival nailed it when they designed the ships with that area, but then they went and ruined it on the Excel class. Makes me so sad. But whatever, I digress.

Those who have followed previous mother/daughter reviews I have done know that Mom and I mainly go on these trips to get away from our husbands and relax, we do not book a lot of excursions ahead of time….but we always manage to get into SOMETHING and some kind of trouble will follow us. We either get kicked out of high tea (*cough cough* I am not the typical MSC Yacht Club passenger quality, haha), a major hurricane hits and the trip gets extended, we drink too much and pass out drunk then wake up the next morning covered head to toe in glitter (neither of us STILL know what happened there!), or we end up doing something crazy neither of us has ever done (jet skis on the ocean? Cliff diving?). We have a blast, some good bonding time, and at the end of the week we both miss those husbands that we gripe about during “real” life (could you BE any sloppier Chris?) and are ready to get back to the farm and jobs that run us ragged until the next vacation. In this particular case, that next vacation is only 20 days away from the time we get back from this one, but don’t let me get ahead of myself. But hey, spoiler alert: there is a Girls’ Cruise review on the horizon! Well, not really on THE horizon that we all know and love, that one will take place on her sister ship Vista, but you all know what I mean. I think you do anyway….now I am rambling…oh heck, let’s just get this review started!

Late to the party but sounds like something I don't want to miss😁

This afternoon has been a whole lotta nothing! We sat on the “patio” and read, then moved into the room when it got hot. Around 2:30 mom had a freak out moment….she wanted to go get a Diet Pepsi, and her sail & sign was NOWHERE to be found! I went around retracing our steps from the morning (Tides Bar, Ocean Plaza Bar, deli, Blue Iguana)…nothing! Called Guest Services to see if it got turned in there…nope. Finally, after tearing apart the stateroom for the second time, we found it under her bed. How the heck did it get there?

To celebrate finding it, and calm my frazzled nerves, we went and got drinks at the atrium bar. I got a chocolatini (yum, dessert in a glass!) and then a Bluemoon martini (again, yum!). We sat and people watched for a bit.

Atrium bar people watching is second only to Red Frog rum bar on the Lido deck!😜

If you go to Alchemy, remember the pic🤣

I may venture there in a little bit! Checking on mom, she’s not feeling too well…hoping she’s just overtired. Getting her some pizza & water, then heading to Lido for dinner myself.

Mom has started to not feel so well today…had a headache earlier, and said she just feels exhausted and not herself. She took a LONG nap this afternoon and is currently resting in the cabin. I’m getting her some pizza and a water, and then depending on how she’s doing we will see what I get into.

Well I’ve joined the party late but not really. I went back to read your review with your uncles in tow and that brought me to your other ones, I am enjoying each of them. So sorry for your fur baby losses though. I have been busy reading 😀. Not caught up with the others but caught up here.

I hope your mom gets better after rest and food. I also hope you are feeling well and over the pneumonia.

Enjoy!

Praying it's not the cruise crud.  I got sick on my last 2 cruises. Negative for covid, flu, rsv...etc.  Just the crud.  Prior to that, 36 cruises without ever getting sick.  Not sure what's going on with that!🤔

Darn it!! Maybe some bubbly soda, a ginger ale? Hope she recovers quickly 👍

I know, what’s up with that lately? Our group earlier this year had some get ill at the end. I’m washing my hands like crazy and I’m gonna start eating more fruit to boost the vitamin c intake.
