Treacher1 Posted April 17 #1 Share Posted April 17 On Celebrity if in a suite or aqua class - no reservations are taken for Laminae or Blu - we never had to wait for a table. I know one must make reservations for Coastal Kitchen on Icon - those of you that sailed - did you have trouble securing a reservation for the time you wanted to dine? We always like to go around 6 - just curious with a ship this large if reservations are difficult? Please advise - I read before you cannot make reservations till on board - Thank you! I Love RCI Posted April 17 #2 Share Posted April 17 The concierges should reach out to you prior to the sailing. I don't recall exactly when we got our email (we've been on Icon twice now), but it was within a week of the sail date. Respond back requesting the nights and times you want to dine in Coastal Kitchen. It is not usually a problem to get reservations if you are in a full suite.
Treacher1 Posted April 17 Author #3 Share Posted April 17 Thank you so much - good to know - splurging on this cruise - pricey - and just want to make sure we can get in to Coastal Kitchen. Thanks for your response!

Did you book 2 cruises at once or did you love the first and book a second?

We booked the inaugural the day bookings opened in Oct 2022. We subsequently booked for Spring Break 2024 when there were still good prices (relatively speaking) sometime in summer 2023. So we had both booked before getting on. We loved the ship...have Star of the Seas on the calendar for Nov 2025 😃
Ashland Posted April 18 #6 Share Posted April 18 If you're in a suite the SL Concierge will email you a week prior to your departure date.
sandebeach Posted April 18 #7 Share Posted April 18 We loved Coastal Kitchen on Icon. It is the only two-story CK in the fleet. We also loved the Suite Sun Deck and the Grove (buffet area with sandwiches and small plates, open usually in the afternoon). abcyoyo Posted April 20 #8 Share Posted April 20 Do cabins with Sky or Star get priority reservations for dinner over Sea class for coastal kitchen?

Yes, though once made, unlikely someone in Sea class will get bumped. Edited April 20 by Biker19
Cruise a holic Posted April 20 #10 Share Posted April 20 On the Icon in March in an surfside family suite- what a disappointment. However we had the all inclusive unlimited dining plan and only ate breakfast and lunch in coastal kitchen- found it too dark and glad we didn't have dinner in their. We will stick to Oasis ships- crown loft suites. Icon class not for everyone-

We did not have a suite, so we never went to Coastal Kitchen, but I poked my head in there. Looked pretty cool to me! Why was your experience a disappointment? Anything in particular? Too crowded, or maybe too many kids? Maybe the Surfside Family Suite was not good? Thanks! Edited April 20 by mramella

OnTheJourney Posted April 23 #13 Share Posted April 23 CK info aside, I simply can't imagine being on a ship of that size, although several people have told me that since the ship is so big, it actually doesn't feel as crowded as I might anticipate. There is a certain logic to the size of the ship and number of pax as being relative in terms of it feeling more or less congested; however, I do know that having been on Viking with only 930 guests, I've been spoiled. It just feels so quiet all around the ship. The music is always very low-key, even in the dining areas, and lots of neat places to just sit and read. Largest ship I've ever been on is the RCL Adventure, so I guess at some point should at least try something bigger - if it comes into Baltimore or Bayonne. No interest in flying anywhere to do it. OnTheJourney Posted April 23 #14 Share Posted April 23 (edited) Sandebeach: I'm curious about your upcoming cruise list. If you're sailing every month, how long would you say you're actually at home relative to days at sea !?! Unless some of them are shorter 1-2 week cruises, I don't see that you're home all that much. Incredibly busy travel schedule! I couldn't do it. Edited April 23 by OnTheJourney

Incredibly busy travel schedule! I couldn't do it. We are retired and live in South Florida. We try to cruise at least once a month, but will cruise more if we get deals/discounts through the casino. Many of our cruises are 4 days, so we will try to add on a 3-day to make it a week or more. We are also trying to do our bucket list travel cruises now, while we are both healthy and mobile. My list, I know now, will only be partially realized at best. Waited too long for certain farther away destinations. DW and I are retired as well, and have been enjoying traveling until some health issues intervened for her last year. Not sure yet how it's all going to play out, but I don't anticipate much, if any, foreign travel anymore. I would, but doubt she'll want to at this point. Just yesterday I sent an email (response to their earlier email) to request reservations for CK. They responded this morning very promptly, and it said “We will take care of the reservation for you” With that I am assuming we are good.
